I Got My SL-6000... Now What?

After looking for a new PDA, it looks like the 6000 was the best fit for me.  Being a Linux user, what could be better than a Linux PDA that syncs... with Windows??

Looking through the SL-6000 forums, it seems this PDA is a little TOO new.  I want to sync my data and install some programs, but it looks like no one has written a newbie guide yet.  So here I am with my Linux computer and my new Z.  What next?  How can I sync?  How can I install new software?  I have a  32MB SD card I can put in my card reader to move files back and forth.  If I have my Z in the cradle hooked up via USB on my Linux machine, how can I surf the net on the Z?

The 6000 forums address specific issues, but I didn't see anything in the FAQ or pinned topics on more of a setup newbie guide, so I hope this turns into one.  Any help would be appreciated.

I connect mine to the rest of my network via wireless. It fetches a dhcp from my wireless router, and can surf the web without problem.

As for connecting to my other linux machines, the Z can host an FTP server and telnet server, but I've opted to use use sshd. This permits me to ssh, sftp and scp both in and out for file exchange. I've setup smbmount on the Z to connect to my mp3 server, so it acts as a portable player while connected to the network.I've never used the death-star cradle, as ssh/samba seem to be the easiest way to move things around.

Installing software is pretty straight forward: point the Opera browser to:

Seems to be the most comprehensive software index. Most of the stuff works well on the 6000.
Download files and use the internal install tool.

Note that you won't be able to install onto your SD card unless you format it with ext2. I've done this and it works well. With some careful symlinking you can setup the sd card as an extension of internal memory (essentially moving /usr/local/* and other directories to the sd card). Do that at your own risk though, I started a thread covering that topic a while back detailing how I did this.

Some software will install without a reformat, some won't.  Will reformating let more stuff be installed?

What? If this is the case, then Sharp have gone back on themselves, because with the latest Sharp ROMs, all the other Zaurus models can install any package to an SD/CF card that is FAT formatted as long as it uses 'standard' directories and most do.

Sharp's installer relocates all sym links on to internal storage and only installs normal files on to the SD/CF card so the filesystem format is not an issue. Or at least it does this on all other Zaurus models.

In any case, this only applies to packages that contain sym links, and that's usually only library packages, which you probably want in internal storage anyway so they're always available.

The only other time it should fail to install to SD/CF is when a package installs into directories outside of the standard directories under /opt/QtPalmtop, but that has nothing to do with the filesystem.

I have a 256MB sd card that never comes out.  I was going to use that for all my installed programs.  I've only been able to install 4 or 5 of the programes to it, about half.

What can i do next? how should i reflash or where can i read what can i reflash. Do i want to? why?
