OpenZaurus 3.5.1 released !!!
« Reply #90 on: September 24, 2004, 07:20:34 am »
I set up a feed from my current ipk dir:

http://admin.di.fc.ul.pt/~bsantos/feed/

In case anyone's interested I have an opie based image with the following:

- No PIM
- bash (resolvconf needs it, though I still didn't check if it was working now)
- opie-aqpkg instead of package manager (stuff to sd wasn't working  )
- wireless applet
- subapplet

I'm willing to try to build images to anyone needing a special set of apps in a base rom.

c ya.

I am just thinking aloud here to help others, here is what I changed the /etc/X11/Xinit.d/11zaurus file to to get orientation working the right way round for the C860

Code: [Select]
#!/bin/sh

if [ -z "`which chkhinge`" ]; then
   # probably not a zaurus
   exit 0
fi

chkhinge -e
if [ $? = 12 ]; then
   xrandr -o right
fi
Great work XorA

Have you got a Nand image for the C860 that us "less evolved" users can install

Hmmm, I had forgotten about NAND's

Trouble is now in my hacking I have made other probably detrimental changes to the ROM. I'd prefer to work on feeding the changes back into OE and have those guys do updated packages. Trouble is I only work on this in spare 5 mins here and there while I do my real job :-)

In my fondest dreams I would love to have a rom for the C750 that has all of the irongeek.com tools preinstalled and working.

But I like quick and dirty fixes   It may be weeks before we get a new build.
But never mind

Would also like to see the QPE fix for the C860. I tried the current version (bit of a daft move for a non teccy) but as well as whetting my appettite for the qpe image, my results prompted a question.

Why do I get different reflashing results dependant upon the previous rom??? As an example (and there are others) installing the qpe image after pdaxrom, I get correct screen orientation but no touch screen reaction at all (Though the system IS NOT frozen, as the apps still respond to keyboard). However after 3.3.5 or 3.5.1 opie, ohe orientation and display are screwed, but the touchscreen is working.

Probably not really the right place for this question, and I realise either way that QPE on the 860 wont work yet...

oh yeah, I remember, I was hear to say 'me too' in favour of a working version ;-)

Read openembedded.org and subscribe oe@handhelds.org. The wiki is full of information how to get wet with the OpenEmbedded build system. Check our over 1700 examples of .oe files and add .oe files for your missing tools. Look at meta/opie-image.oe and meta/opie-collections.inc and see how to easily modify it to get customized root file systems.

OE can make your dream come true if you're not shy to put some effort (read: work) into it.

I am not having much luck with OE 3.5.1.

I installed the GPE version with 24-8 split in a 5000D. It is very slow. Text editor and wireless work ok. The sketch editor doesn't. Rosetta was sort of working but the trainer wasn't, so I found the rosetta update on the wiki and installed that. Now rosetta doesn't work. I tried to install dillo but the install fails. I've also been trying to use Tcl/Tk and the Tcl part works fine. Tk has strange behaviour. If I create a canvas widget, it works fine and I can create objects in it. However if I create a label or button widget the Zaurus crashes.

Is this a RAM issue? Will 32-0 be better?

I'm not a moron, but for some reason the oz rom isn't flashing

I own a Z SL-5500 and I'm trying to flash the gre version

I downloaded

http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstabl...gpe-image.jffs2

and

http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstabl...00/zImage-32-32

renamed gpe-image.jffs2 to initrd.bin  and zImage-32-32 to zImage

copied them to a vfat 16 meg CF card, slid it into the Z..  switch it to replace battery, pressed C then D then pushed the full reset button.   The mail light and the power light come on, but only for a second and go back off.  On the open zaurus site it says this indicates files not being found.  I checked, and zImage and initrd.bin are both on the cf card, in the room directory.

Any ideas?

Thanks

svens

It's great for a first OE release, but I'd realy like to see totaly revamped automatic card mounting and a totaly redone package manager in the GPE version.  In this day and age, you just shouldn't have to manualy mount a card (or be totaly unable to mount them like me) and you shouldn't have to install packages from the command line or run extra programs like ipkg-link to make them work.

With the inability to mount cards or install software through the graphical installer, this release is just useless eye candy for me.

Mickey, don't get me wrong, I know it's the first OE release AND your first GPE release and given that, it's awsome.  You guy's have done GREAT work, and tommorrow I'm going to give the Opie version a go.  I just wish I could use GPE.   It's just so beautiful.  I'm realy looking forward to 3.5.2.

Well, to be honest, last time I checked there were even less people working on GPE than are working on Opie, so I don't expect things to improve very fast...

... now if some of the pdaXrom folks would join the GPE team (after all, it's X, guys!), that would rock.
