Cell phone modem issues
« on: September 26, 2004, 12:45:41 am »
I just got an LG-VX4500, and I got the serial connection cable with it. I can connect it to my desktop and am able to establish a dial up connection to my dial up ISP, but only from my desktop. I have a ZThinCable that mates with the cell phone connection cable, and connects my zaurus to my phone. I also downloaded the SerialIO Dialup Manager app which is supposed to easily connect the phone to the zaurus. The app cannot seem to connect to the modem, however.

Does anybody have experience with this setup? I realize that there is a lot of information out there regarding pppd, etc., but is there any good information on using a cell phone as a modem on the Z?

I'm running theKompany Rom, on a SL-5600.

My initial hypothesis is that this is a hardware problem, and if i had some sort of crossover connector between the ZThinCable, and the cell phone data cable, my problems would be resolved.

Thanks in advance for any help, advice, suggestions.

Do you use a gender changer?

I presume you must - the Z's serial cable plugs directly into the PC serial port (well mine does, but I think you can get different ends) as does the phone's. Therefore you'll need a cross-over (and a gender changer too).

hmm...i dont think its a hardware problem, as im posting this from my Z using the setup described above. the problem seems to be in the timeout of the dialup manager...

thanks for the advice
