I use my Z for looking at porno, trolling on msg boards, spaming about my X43 webcam, DOS attacks, trashing access points named "linksys" and reseting the password, sending crank letters to the goventment, buying Viagra online, pretending I'm a lesbian on IRC, and bidding on stuff i cant pay for on ebay.

Basically all the stuff i do from my computer at home.

Ok so maybe I dont do all of that... But being able to basically do anything you can from home is the exact niche I think this rom falls into.  Sure the sharp rom makes a better PIM, but i can basically do everything the sharp rom did with a $50 cellphone.  I'd love to see more PIM functionality, but not at the cost of what Xrom is.  And that is a crappy computer (for a desktop) that fits in my pocket.  I even like the small fonts... you need the space if you want to run real apps.  Heck I'm posting from bed with my Z right now.  Now thats freakin cool.  I dont even have pants on!

Its the very fact that my Z is not a PIM anymore that keeps me hooked.  The closer the rom resembles my desktop the more I find I cant even go take a leak without keeping the Z nearby just incase.

If you're not using your Z as a pocket laptop, you should just stick with a sharp rom... IMHO

btw, the rom kicks ass

yes, I use pdaXrom...

I have 1.0.1 on my 760.    I use it for the following, some more than others:

  (1)  browsing -- (reading in bed), firefox/dillo
  (2)  reading -- web pages, newsgroups, ebooks, pdf (argh! bad fonts!)
  (3)  chat -- terminal ssh to remote box to IRC/IM via irc gateways
  (4)  games -- mame, lgeneral, nethack, xboard, xu4/exult
  (5)  music -- mp3s, two 512mb SDs (rock/moods)
  (6)  admin -- remote terminal from Z to remote unix boxes, vnc
  (7)  programming / dev -- perl, python, C/C++, QT (tcc for arm yet? Ch?) gcc/g++
  (8)  emulators -- see mame above... hatari/stonx/stella, xmess (dosbox, bochs, qemu, anything)

 pdaXrom is a mini laptop for me.  The hardware isn't as powerful as I would like as a min --
  800x600, 600Mhz cpu + (+FPU?), 256mb ram ... built in wifi, 20GB min disk.
     *BUT*
  This is more than sufficient for doing the above FOR NOW -- while the specs I want/need
  become available.

I use the Z as an archive of my files and my work.  I can rsync my files to and from the device.
I have my code with me any any and all times.  Grab and run... etc.

I appreciate the capabilities of having a full / native linux.... native sdk, etc.  cross compiler is also
very nice for taking some of the load off the Z.

The reason why I use and support pdaX is that it provides the platform of what I need --
  linux, X, gcc...
I don't need PIM, but there are some programs out there to do that.  xdia is very nice.  gimp runs,
but is slow.

A small workaround for this is to use mplayer..

1. wget the playlist file to disk (mplayer in pdaXrom can't retrieve it from the net):

bash-3.00# wget http://www.di.fm/mp3/trance96k.pls

2. cat the file and find the shoutcast server url (the part you want is in bold):

bash-3.00# cat trance96k.pls
[playlist]
NumberOfEntries=3
File1=http://64.236.34.67:80/stream/1003
Title1=D I G I T A L L Y - I M P O R T E D - Trance channel! (US Ultravox)
Length1=-1
File2=

3. open the server url with mplayer:

bash-3.00# mplayer http://64.236.34.67:80/stream/1003

4. To adjust the volume just run XMMS and even in stop mode it adjusts the volume fine..

Hope this helps

(btw that stream is www.di.fm 's main trance stream, great stuff)

Thanks very much for that - so mplayer can play streams but xmms can't.

Normal service with this thread can resume now!

i'm not running it yet.

but i'm looking forward to doing so, perhaps on the next rc, if not, then on the 1.1.  i've used it and love it, but i can't give up the sync to outlook.  it's first and foremost a pda for me.

once i can replace the qt sync progs with evolution or something viable i will be making the switch.  i'm really looking forward to having a pocket sized laptop.

Damn, how I love my Zaurus... I'm posting this from the train, with a speed of 30K/sec thanks to my cellphone with UMTS.

I use my Zaurus for:

- Fun
- Multimedia
- Office capabilities
- Linux
- SSH to some servers
- Remote desktop

And I'm searching for some good medical software/databases.

And pdaXrom: I love it... Maybe a c3000 to test in a few weeks?

Ow, and I do think my setup looks extra good (the best ), see the fluxbox thread or visit my website...

I tryed pdaXrom on my c700 before I sold it (needed money, lol) and was realy impressed by the mini notebook look and feel. It was your first (beta-) release so it was realy slow and buggy but I liked it!

I have just ordered a C3000 and would realy love to see pdaXrom running on it

So I can only tell you what I use my PDA´s for but I´m sure I can do that all and more with your great rom

most of battery live is used for MP3 playback something like 3h a day in the train

then (but that is why I came to the Z) learning Linux

Web surfing, Email, and ICQ stuff

PIM but not as hardcore as some others the stuff available will fit my needs I think

Office stuff

some gaming but not needed

just wanted to let you know you are doing a great job with this
