Z6000W ac adapter
« on: November 11, 2004, 12:51:49 pm »
Just got my Zaurus 6000W and now I'm wondering if I can use the AC adapter from my
old Z5500G because the japanese plug doesn't fit in European power sockets.
It's the same model number, same input/output and looks the same, too.
I guess it should work but I don't feel like taking risks if you know what I mean

Also there's a small switch in the battery compartment but my japanese is not good enough to decipher all of its label.. something about a backup battery. It's set to off. Should I turn it on when charging the Z? And leave it on later?

(sorry I can't rtfm because it's coming in a second package which is not here yet)

Hey Razzle,

i think it should work without problems. I received my 6000L a week ago and used the AC-Part which is directly connected to the 6000L with the power-cord of the SL-5500. No Problems so far.
I only have to buy a new  power-cord which should be a standard and available everywhere!

Bye Bedman

OK du kannst mir per PM bescheid geben! :-)

Cool, I figured that when I saw that the cord was replacable but didn't try yet.

Any idea about the switch in the battery compartment??

Don't take this as gospel (i don't have this switch), but it is to prevent the internal backup battery from draining while in delivery... I think that you have to turn this switch on and leave your zaurus to charge for a few hours.
Gorgeous C860, 256 Sandisk SD, 1Gig Pretec 40x CF, PDAIR leather case & the really cool retractable iPDA USB sync/charge cable. Powered by PDAXROM BETA 1.

My wish - to have a Command & Conquer style game on my Z! (FREECNC!!!) Simcity 2000 would also be great.

I've been using a charger from a 5000d on my 6000. It's the same model number, same output, etc.

Yes, you have to flip that switch to on.

Let it sit a while.  If it's off the backup battery won't charge and you will lose every thing if the main battery dies.
What's this button do??

Seems to be working now, thank you

I just realized that since I was planning to sell my old 5500, I won't be able to use its adapter anymore then.
But the power cord of the ac adapter should be replacable with any cord I think..
The adapter accepts 110-240V input so I'll just get a standard Euro power cord from an electronics store.

Why would you lose everything? I thought the 6000's used flash memory for internal storage, unlike the 5500?

I keep getting tempted to buy a 6000W, especially now someone in the office has a Dell X50v with a VGA screen which looks amazing, but I couldn't do without a builtin thumb board and of course Linux
