Maslovsky,

Now that I see your post, I have to ask:

What about AUDIO DECODING LIBS ? You have a checkbox for "MAD" ... I installed madplay and MADlib and everything I found with "MAD" ... I check it and I get only silence ... The other option, ffmpeg or something like that, introduces great slugginesh in my video frames count per second ...

Sorry I am no expert on linux, so maybe my question is truly dumb, but if you have some spare secs. to explain what is "MAD" audio decoding and HOW can it be used, I would be very grateful.

Forget it - there won't be any such options in the new version

cool!
would this work with original sharp rom for people who do not want to flash their Zaurus?
Any libraries dependencies/kernel setting that is needed that would not be available in original SHARP rom?

Wow, you've been busy!  Lots and lots of options!

With my ogg-encoded CDs (not supported by music player) i've now used both the music players (Media player and Music player) on my Z a bit, and i have some thoughts on what can be a problem.  Playlists (Media player) can be nice, but it's maddening to not be able to play a directory like in Music player.  In fact, the way media player ignores subfolders makes it really hard to sort out which songs belong to which albums.  I think that the best compromise is to have a browse mode that groups songs by folder, but with the ability to add a whole folder to the playlist at once.  Please, if you can, make that or the ability to play the contents of a specific subdirectory an option in the new player.

Future version of Kino2 could play Matroska like 1.0pre5.2-1 do.
I made some mkv videos with Xvid and aac sound. But you must forced fps with "-fps 25" to play video. Only some synchronise problem, but video is good (no freeze..) with a wondeful stereo sound...  You can play some audio tracks too, but with mp4 extension (not aac) or in a mkv container (playlist). I ask to a RV9 codec support to atty.jp (name ?). This is his answer...

Yes, it should work on any Sharp-based ROM but the package will be huge (about 5 Mb) because of the mplayer size.

I'm not sure the newer kino2 would work on the 6000 properly, as version .3 comes up with "bus error".  .22 however, seems to work fine.

Admittedly, the screenshots of .4 does seem to address all the issues that I find missing in .22

add a whole folder to the playlist at once

This is already implemented, as well as adding existing playlists (.m3u and .pls) to the playlist.

New version uses mplayer 1.0pre5.2-1 if that's what you mean

I have no idea if it will, since I don't have a 6000, neither does the author of mplayer mods for w100 chip (and 6000 happens to use a different video chip).

Depending on your setup, that may not be advisable, since the uclx decompression code uses temporary files in /tmp to which the uncompressed executable is written. If you do not have enough space available there, execution will fail miserably (usually with a Bus Error). On top of that I have observed more than once that (1) the temporary file was not removed and, even worse, (2) sometimes the file was removed but the allocated space wasn't returned to the filesystem properly (i.e. necessitating a fsck to get it back).

On another note: will the upcoming release also play back H.264 as well? Inquiring minds want to know

Best regards,
Chris.

That's an option, but you'll be better off simply installing the package to SD card. Also you can always compress the binary after installation.

Since kino2 is only a front end to the mplayer it only suports formats, which mplayer can handle. The verison of mplayer I'm using is 1.0pre5.2.1, so you may check if it supports formats you need.
