Serial Port On Sl-c3000

From this following page, I found there is a serial port on SL-C3000:

Does anyone know the pinout and the plug for using this serial port?

Sorry, but if i read it right, it's just a guess from the writer.

The port behind the cover looks, tastes and smells like the
well known SHARP I/O port, BUT it is only for service purposes
(JTAG and stuff).
Don't remove the cover, don't try USB or serial cables on it.
The Zaurus won't turn on with a cable inserted.

I was looking at a serial port to USB cable over the weekend that was usable with Garmin GPSs.  I've been using an SL-C3000 with a USB hub, two USB keyboards and an IRiver IHP-120 for external storage and these work out of the box.  Would a USB to serial cable require special drivers or recompiling the kernel?  USB mice seem to be of no use on a Zaurus (or has someone found a way to do that?).

Okay, with the serial cable described below (C?-170? whatever) my C3000 can talk to my PC. Using minicom, I've sent over 2Mb of files at 115200 bps with Zmodem with no errors. The actual speed was well over 6kilobytes per second. Remember when that was fast.  

Now, looking at my mulitmeter, I see that the Zaurus is outputing on the CTS & DSR lines. It's voltage is low (2.8V) and technically out of spec, but I believe that's common among handhelds. This is going to depend on how picky your device is. Most likely it will work, but no guarantees.

Confused a bit I am (My c3000 arrived today)

Can you use the port on the back of zaurus as a serial port TRIsoft says no
I think gjarboni says yes

I tried my serialIO GPS on  the c3000 serial port and the power light stayed off. On  my SL5600 power light comes on.

So is it an umpowered port?

I just want a simple GPS connection on c3000- An suggestions?

either explore the socket yourself or get a supported usb - serial cable... there is a document detailing the 5000 io port which is the same as the c860 port which shows what pins do what.

what about trying the Bluetooth adapter for Garmin GPS found on that great site:

Hi everyone,

we need to update the first statement.
It looks like the port IS able to work with Zaurus
serial cables. Don't know if we were too stupid at
our first tests in november or if SHARP changed
something.

We'll check it again by ourself, but many users
reported to us that the serial cables work with
the SL-C3000 / SL-C1000 series.

I have a SerialIO cable that I used with my old 5500 (Zaurus to 9-pin connector).  Anyone know if it will work with a C1000?  I'm getting a unit from Japan, but if it doesn't work that will put a damper on any serial connection to Cisco equipment.  I'd rather not spend more buying new cables.  Thanks,

See my thread on this. I bought the SerialIO cable for my C3000 and am only getting data one-way.

I have successfully used it with a Cisco 1840 router.  The only tricky part is getting from 9-pin female
to the RJ45 that Cisco uses.  I have an adaptor that does this.  Not sure where it came from or who
made it as it has no markings on it.  I've also gotten it to work with the Cisco RJ45-to-9-pin cable
and enough other adapters to connect it to the Zaurus serial cable  (may have had a null modem
in there too).
