Sd Card Problem
« on: December 15, 2004, 07:15:39 am »
I am running oz+opie 3.5.2 on my 5600 (PXAA250).  I just bought a 128mb SD card (branded by 'SMART Modular Technologies'))), but whenever I insert it, my whole zaurus just locks up... I can't do anything with it.  Here is the output from dmesg, from insertion, to removal:

pxa_sd_wait_response: responce time out (cmd=55 MMC_STAT=0x2142)
pxa_sd_wait_id_response: responce time out (cmd=41 MMC_STAT=0x2142)
pxa_sd_wait_id_response: responce time out (cmd=01 MMC_STAT=0x2142)
wifi0: SW TICK stuck? bits=0x0 EvStat=8001 IntEn=e09f
wifi0: trying to recover from IRQ hang
pxa_sd_wait_response: card removed (cmd=01)
pxa_sd_wait_id_response: card removed (cmd=01)
pxa_sd_wait_id_response: card removed (cmd=01)
VFS: Disk change detected on device mmcd(60,1)
pxa_sd_wait_response: card removed (cmd=01)
pxa_sd_wait_id_response: card removed (cmd=01)
pxa_sd_wait_id_response: card removed (cmd=01)
VFS: Disk change detected on device mmcd(60,1)

Then, those last 4 lines repeat 10 or so times.  Immediately after I remove the card,  it un-freezes, and works fine.  *Any* ideas are appreciated; I really want to get this SD card to work.

I am still having this issue, in case anyone cares.   If anyone has any idea on how to fix it, please reply...

Thanks!

Ok, I got a bit farther.  Now, whenever I put the card in, dmesg doesn't even register anything...and running 'mount /mnt/card' gives me:

mount: Mounting /dev/mmcda1 on /mnt/card failed: No such device or address

but /dev/mmcda1 does exist.  Again, this card works fine in my camera.  Is this just a cheap card, or is this a known, fixable problem with SD cards?  Please help!

Since apparently no one else can help, I'll offer no help at all ;-)

I can't help in the least with the OS you're running...

But 5500's in general are _very_ picky about the pins on the SD cards. Any dirt, oil, finger prints, anything on the pins will probably cause what you're seeing. I have a friend that was ready to toss his Z when this happened. Then he thought of just cleaning the contacts on the SD, and it all worked perfectly... Seems not all SD contacts are created equal either. Sure, they're 'gold' plated....

Try wiping the contacts down with some cotton and rubbing alcohol. It sure can't hurt...

Beyond that, it just may be that the card won't work with the Z. It wouldn't be the first one...
