5x00 General discussions / External Keyboards For Sl5500
« on: March 20, 2007, 04:18:00 pm »
I used a folding keyboard from ManMachine (http://www.man-machine.com/) for a while but the driver interfered with screen rotation so I switched to the Targus IR keyboard (which I find just as cool as can be although it uses up the battery pretty quick so I like to use it where I can be plugged in).

I use the following:
Code: [Select]
evm -cp jSolun100c.jar jSolun.JSolun
in this case for the JSolun star guide program.

Under "Flexibility", you fail to mention the key attribute that attracted me to the Z in the first place: the ability to write and upload my own applications.  In that sense, the Z is not a PDA, or, at least, not ONLY a PDA.  When I was looking around for a portable computer, only the Z provided the user the ability to write applications using only the functions provided in the basic, off the shelf, suite; that is, JEODE.  In addition, the CF and SD slots afforded me virtually limitless expandability.

I used the JEODE ipk from the ZUG Downloads (this site) under Applications.

I, too, have an SL-5500.  JEODE works just fine.  So let's see what else you have.  I am running Sharp 3.1.  When I installed the OS, I then installed the JEODE ipk from the Sharp download.  I did nothing else.  From a console, I can execute a java program with "evm -cp ... ...".

OK now.  What OS do you have?  What is the current path when you're in the console (maybe it doesn't know where JEODE resides)?

Personal Java/Jeode/J2ME Personal Profile / Garden Planner

Thanks, Stupkid,
I uploaded "grdnpln.zip" to your server.  It contains the compiled classes, the Java source (GrdnPln.java), and the text file, plist.txt, that lists the plants for the combo box.
Cheers.

To do that, I'd have to make an IPKG; I don't know how.

I planted some seeds and promptly forgot what I had planted where.  That got me thinking it would be good to have a program on the Z (I have a 5500) that would allow me to plan and/or record what I had planted, keep for next year, etc.  I know, I can just use a piece of paper.  But I wrote the app anyway.

It's organized by "beds" starting at bed-0.
To add or change a plant, choose a plant number or "new". Tap the screen to get the coordinates in the proper fields.  Choose "AddPlant" to get the new/updated plant into memory.  Choose "save" to save the array to grdn.csv.  Choose "refresh" to redraw the bed.

I can't seem to attach it so I'll send it out to anyone who's interested.

It looks like the program was written for full Java SE.  It  may be using classes not supported by your JRE.  Do you have the source?

Software / Strange Behaviour Of Hancom Sheet
« on: January 26, 2005, 09:57:47 am »
what happens when you save as Hancom Sheet instead of Excel?  I have found that some functions don't persist, even though I'd think they are the same in both.

Personal Java/Jeode/J2ME Personal Profile / Inner classes

I run on a 5500 with Sharp 3.1.  I do most of my compiling on a PC and copy the files (including inner classes) onto my CF or SD card.  Never had a problem.  I also use KOPI  sometimes and also don't have a problem.
How are you transfering the files?  If you're using the ZDrive software that might be the problem.

Omicron,
I don't understand your suggestion.  Which BASH file should be wrapped up with doc's?  Furthermore, making an IPK is precisely what I don't know how to do.

I must admit, I know less about Kerry's voting record in Congress than his stated position in this race.  I'm sure you are right.  I'll feel better about voting for him, then.

Quote
A liberal political group called The Americans for Democratic Action has given Kerry a 92 out of 100 liberal ranking.

The American Conservative Union gave Kerry a 13 out of 100 rating as a conservative.  His career ranking from the group is a 5.
That just goes to show how far off center the "center" has moved.  Kerry is for limited goverment, limited improvement in health care access, limited improvement in education.  He's no George McGovern (the first candidate I voted for and the last I felt good about).

You can get a CF reader for a PC (USB connection).  I got one at Radio Shack for about $20.
