5x00 General discussions / 5600 Calendar Invalid Data When Syncing
« on: September 21, 2006, 02:17:45 am »
I've got a stock 5600, Sharp rom and it's been working flawlessly for longer than I can remember. I sync it using Intelisync to my Lotus Organizer several times a week.

Now all of a sudden, I get a message that the calendar has invalid data and to use the repair function of the Zaurus to fix it when I try to sync. I even tried syncing to the Qtopia Desktop with same error...

Umm, what repair function? Can't find any reference to anything like it? I have searched for days looking for any info on the calendar data and repairing it. No luck so far...

I may have the option of erasing everything and then re-syncing with the desktop, but I'd lose quite a bit of data doing that.

Does anyone have a clue as to what repair function the software is talking about? Does anyone know how to repair the calendar data? I found all the files in the dtm directory but can't do much with them.

As I said, this is all pretty much stock Sharp. Qtopia 1.5.4 with rom 1.32.

Yes I know there's better out there, but I like my Z just the way it is, or was anyway.

Thanks for any help...

Windows Issues / 5600 Intellisync And Lotus Organizer Help?
« on: March 12, 2006, 01:45:17 pm »
In the hopes there's a simple answer...

I just installed my 5600 Intellisync (and the full version of Intellisync) on a new laptop running XP. It works great and sync's fine with the Qtopia desktop so communications os no problem.

When I try to sync with Lotus Organizer, it give me a data base access denied message...

I do have a password on the Organizer database, but this has never been a problem on my WinME desktop where I sync every other day or so.

Anyone have any cluse as to how to get this sync to work on the laptop with XP (media edition [home]) Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks...

User Request for Applications / Photography Software?
« on: February 02, 2005, 11:44:10 pm »
It's a great program with another minor problem. The formats stop at 6x9. That may be nice for you medium format shooters, but some of us like a slightly larger format. I use 4x5 and 8x10 (in inches!) personally and would love it if the author would add those to the formats... Other than that, a great program...

5x00 Hardware / Sd Card Problem
« on: December 22, 2004, 10:45:01 pm »
Since apparently no one else can help, I'll offer no help at all ;-)

I can't help in the least with the OS you're running...

But 5500's in general are _very_ picky about the pins on the SD cards. Any dirt, oil, finger prints, anything on the pins will probably cause what you're seeing. I have a friend that was ready to toss his Z when this happened. Then he thought of just cleaning the contacts on the SD, and it all worked perfectly... Seems not all SD contacts are created equal either. Sure, they're 'gold' plated....

Try wiping the contacts down with some cotton and rubbing alcohol. It sure can't hurt...

Beyond that, it just may be that the card won't work with the Z. It wouldn't be the first one...

Software / Rexx Language
« on: December 03, 2004, 09:53:28 pm »
In my searches for various rexx versions, I ran across this one:
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/r/regina/
which shows:
regina-rexx_2.2-1_arm.deb

Regina being the other major rexx language and around a long time. Whether or not there is a version here that would run on the Z, I don't know? But maybe someone could get hold of the sources and compile one?

Just in case no one noticed. IBM has released linux rexx to the public! There's a notification on their web site here:
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtools/o...inux/index.html

Leading to this:

And if anyone does a Z version, I would sure love it!!! (as an old/and still/ OS2 user)

Software / Anyone Have Qtdictionary
« on: December 01, 2004, 11:30:02 pm »
Finding the app itself was pretty easy once the filename of qtdictionary_1.0_arm.ipk was found. It resides in many zaurus feeds. But it doesn't look like it includes the dictionaries, so without filenames for them???

5x00 General discussions / Anyone Ever Used "viking" Cf Cards?
« on: November 28, 2004, 01:37:28 am »
I'm still using a Viking SD card after almost a year with no problems and I just bought the 1 gig CF card. Formatted it in fat32 and looks like it's going to work fine. Already put 685megs on it...

Accessories / Sharp CF camera with SL 5600?
« on: October 21, 2004, 04:22:57 pm »
Quote
Does anyone have any experience in using the Sharp CF camera with a Zaurus 5600 that is running the original Sharp ROM? The camera seems to function properly up to the point where you try to actually take a picture and save it either to the built-in memory or an SD card. Then it reports a failure writing to memory. Some sort of permissions issue?

TIA,
Windrose
You don't mention which version of the Sharp ROM you're running. or which version of the camera software...

I have no problems with Sharp's camera program with ROM 1.32 and camera software qpe-camera_1.5.0-3_arm.ipk

The first thing to try is to hold down the stylus on the camera icon to get the menu. Then make sure it runs with root priviledges.

If that doesn't work, let us know what versions you have...

General Discussion / Run the battery dead, what happens?
« on: June 20, 2004, 11:03:16 pm »
Good news for me (5600) and not so good news for the 5500. Thanks for the info. I\'m sure there\'s more than one brand new user who would appreeciate this...

\"Nothing really bad\"? I am guessing that I would have to do a restore though?

And that didn\'t answer the question of whether or not the Z would shut down after a warning before the battery was completely dead?

Yes, it\'s a 5600 like in my sig ;-)

And since Qman asked about a 550, I guess it wasn\'t such a dumb question ;-)

General Discussion / Run the battery dead, what happens?
« on: June 19, 2004, 01:57:32 am »
Since switching to the Z, I have been afraid of letting the bettery run down. I\'ve kept it charged and bought the Semsons external battery just in case. But after all the reading I\'ve done about the Z, I have yet to see it clearly stated as to what happens if you do run the battery down all the way?

Will the Z give a warnig and then shut down, saving enough battery power to keep alive for a while? I\'ve done this on my old Clie several times with no ill results. But what happens on the Z??

If I kill the battery dead, what is lost and will the Sharp backup program restore everything to the state I had it in before the battery died?

Or do I really have to worry about running the battery down?

Just thought this would be a great question for the newbie forum...

Software / Voice Recorder 44.1K hack possibility?
« on: June 16, 2004, 04:18:12 pm »
I hate to bring it up, but tkcVox does audio compression using gsm (I beleive) and supposedly can record huge amounts of time in very little space. It does very good on compressing \'nothing\' or silence while you\'re recording. They also have a utility to convert the sounds files, which are proprietary, to wav format.

It does have a volume bug though which is easily fixed as long as you don\'t change the settings...

5x00 General discussions / Beam Device is Busy???
« on: June 11, 2004, 09:44:21 am »
Ahhh, you were close enough that I found a temp solution...

It creates a file \"irattach.pid\" in /var/run/ ( which apparently is really \"/dev/shm/run\"). If I delete that file, I can hit the connect button again and it tries to connect without the Device Busy message box... That beats the heck out of a reboot!

Thanks!

5x00 Hardware / Is my DCF_660W wifi card dead??
« on: June 09, 2004, 09:09:06 pm »
No doubt zbones. My comment was more serious than satirical. I honestly did think that the linux folk went after new hardware, but maybe more in the desktop arena? I do remember having problems with a sound card driver though last time I set up a linux box a few years ago...

My suprise came from finding out that people were looking at this \'problem\' for at least 4 or 5 months and there\'s still no word on a driver, but many new buyers in the same situation I found myself in. Which of course was my own fault for not looking into it before I bought it. I just remembered the Socket from when I bought the Z and didn\'t even think of them changing it...

Still an \"Oh-well\"... My dumb mistake and I should be able to get a refund on it and just lose the shipping. Not the worst I\'ve had happen by a long shot...
