Now, if only I can find the Marathon ipk

OK - for the hordes out there still wanting to play Marathon on the Zaurus. You need the alephone ipk hosted here:
http://www.zaurus.org.uk/download/pdaXrom/capnfish/feed/

Think you might also have to install Mesa3d if I remember.

Thank you Capnfish!

I'm really surprised to see that as of 2011 people are still using Z ... Even InsearcOf gave up on the Z :-)  I'm still trying to sell mine :-D
Best regards to you all. I might still have some r197 and r198 images around ... if they are wanted drop me a line (louigi600 <at> yahoo <dot> com)
Don't blame the Zaurus. Seems to me folks just kept developing/breaking the basics over and over for some new kernel or other and forgot what a fantastic little machine they had. I have an Android Tablet now and just plain hate it.

So have dusted off my Zaurus again. Had Cacko rom on it for a while, but am now trying PdaXrom Beta1.
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distri...oad/1.1.0beta1/
and
http://ftp.vim.org/ibiblio/distributions/p...oad/1.1.0beta1/

I think that after that version things went downhill for me. I tried pdaXii13 on my c860 back then but seem to remember that even when I found out how to fix stuff for the screen/pointer going odd, that if I ever dropped out of X the commandline was scrambled, so I don't think I'll go there. But if you have a later model:

Debian / State Of The Kernel Feb 2010

(Someone really ought to clean that page up)

I have been trying to follow the instructions there to install Debian on my c860, but so many of the links do not lead anywhere - especially as far as using Angstrom for altboot/kexecboot is concerned, which it seems I have to do for the c860. I am confused about what kernels are available and what boot technique I can use. Suffice to say I haven't managed to get Debian running.

If anyone can point me to a way of getting Debian working on my c860 using resources that are readily available now, I would be grateful.

Thanks. That's an incentive to get my wifi sorted.

I sorted my screen and cursor on my c860 thanks to this and other threads. Thanks everyone. Zubuntu looks good!

Now I wonder what next? I need to sort out my wifi and would like to know if there is a feed to install applications from if I ever do get networking.

Thanks

OK, thanks. I'll have a go. Where do I find .xinitrc?

In your home directory :
Code: [Select]
cd
vi .xinitrc
Cheers, had found it, but now have calibration error (see above)

OK, thanks.

Screen now looks good but ts_calibrate returns an error:
Code: [Select]
determinent is too small -- 0.000000
Calibration failed

This was run as root before X started. On starting X cursor is 1/2 screen out.

Any ideas?

Also, will there be sound (seeing errors about alsa)?

Cheers

Some progress - I edited .xinitrc and it helped but the mouse is way off. Is there a way to calibrate it?
Thanks!
 mike

I do get an error "Extended Input Devices not yet supported. when I abort startx

ts_calibrate does the trick. Now I have to figure out how to configure networking with a symbol technologies card I guess.

Hi. Can you elaborate on what you did to get beyond the rotated screen. I am stuck there.

Thanks

I would like to try Zubuntu on my c860. It has languished for a long time. But do I gather from the above that there are extra files I need to make it work? I have found the following:

But is there anything else I need?

Thanks

5) using linux desktop, create 2 partitions in sd card.
6) untar zdevil rootfs to partition 1 of sd card.
7) change partition 2 to swap.

Thank you Felix for this explanation. Could you let me know the link to zdevil's rootfs as I seem to have found a few and don't know which is the one you got to work.
What size swap would you recommend?

Thanks

Sorry, but I've now looked at the threads again and I realise I am just so utterly out of my depth. The fun has gone out of this.

I reiterate the question that is the title for this thread. A definitive answer is not found.

OK, I shall concentrate on these threads, and raise questions there. Thanks.

I am using a c860 as you know, and while I know it is not as powerful as other Zs that followed, it still has the potential to knock the spots off my Pocket PC, and I just wish I could get it to the place where it had the chance to do so.

I am pretty close to that myself. It may be a piece of cake for some among us, but let's not pretend that searching this forum will give clear and concise instruction. I've done it and I am just more confused as a result.

Of course if there is a thread that lays it out in a way that can be followed, with links that work, I will be very, very pleased.

« on: February 10, 2008, 05:44:28 am »
Yes I'll try it on my linux box (it is a print/file server at the moment) though I tried on my Mac OS X Leopard and it wouldn't work either. Perhaps I'll download again on the linux box too.

I think I am finding installing Debian on my c860 challenging. I am following the instructions here:

https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Q16:_I...o_my_SD_card%3F

But find that it doesn't explain things in full (like the kernel/kernel modules thing). Are there any other instructions, or just -er- an installer I missed?
