I have tried to free space, I have freed 2.5 Mb, but ipkg stalls again on libqte2 (having 1320 Kb free).

Now I try to upgrade just modules...

Hi,

I have just reflashed my Z SL-5500 with the last OZ release (zImage 64-0 and Opie 1.2) and then I have tried to follow the "Howto get r21 kernel on collie" news on OZ website, but ipkg stalls during upgrade procedure.

Flash works fine and all the modules are upgraded to r21 version, the problem is raised during libqte2 upgrade, the last thing that ipkg print out is:

upgrading libqte2 on root from 2.3.10-r12 to 2.3.10-r14...
downloading http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstabl...-r14_collie.ipk

I have tried to upgrade under opie konsole and under Z console (logout from opie), obtaining the same result.

What could I do now?

improbabile, data la quantità di zauristi in Italia.

Me ne sono reso conto... in pratica, di "vivi" siamo 4-5  

Cmq il problema l'ho risolto diverso tempo fà, l'ho anche scritto nel post in inglese, qui mi sono scordato di postare vista l'inattività del forum italiano.

Cmq mi fà piacere sapere che non sono solo

Is there a way to extend the dmesg buffer?

              Use a buffer of size bufsize to query the kernel ring buffer.  This is 16392  by  default.   (The
              default kernel syslog buffer size was 4096 at first, 8192 since 1.3.54, 16384 since 2.1.113.)  If
              you have set the kernel buffer to be larger than the default then this option can be used to view
              the entire buffer.

I dont know why you guys have a problem with r21 kernel on collie.

My collie has OZ 3.5.3 installed after it was released, updated with upgrades and I just flashed r21 kernel and started machine. All works ok. No hangs during startup, no Big Red Warning message - just like it has to be.

If I find some time then I will backup whole machine and try to reflash kernel (r21) with opie-image and post results.

I know well that this situation is very frustrating...
The worst thing for a developer is a software that works fine on his system but not on other systems.

So I have a proposal, Hrw could release a new zImage with a "verbose debug" mode on, something that could print out useful informations to understand the problem.

I have studied linux kernel this year, but I'm not a kernel hacker, and I have buyed my Z recently, so I can't give a big help... but I (and I think everyone here) would give an help to solve this problem, also just testing if this is useful.

My nights are at OZ disposal

I too have a similar problem, on the same hardware.
I've a SL-5500. I've followed the standard flashing procedure
who had always worked fine.
I've tried with zImage-collie-64-0-r21.bin (renamed zImage of course)
and opie-image-collie-20050407173817.rootfs.jffs2 (renamed initrd.bin).
The flashing go smoothly, but on startup the Z freezes on "configure update-modules".
Twice the flashing for twice the same result.

- SL-5500
- 256MB kingston CF

And the same problem...
I have repeated twice the flashing procedure and the Z freezes on  "configure update-modules".

Flashing works fine with the previous 3.5.3 rom.

Please, fix this problem...

Potremmo organizzare la cosa insieme, io possiedo anche un portale in via di sviluppo da 1 bel pò (per mancanza di tempo)  www.dev-labs.net, visto che lo spazio abbonda potrei creare un sottodominio zaurus.dev-labs.net che potremmo utilizzare come primo sito italiano dedicato allo Z.
