Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Camera on linux?
« on: January 03, 2021, 09:15:30 am »
Is there any progress regarding camera on linux? This is now the only thing that is stopping me to use linux as my only phone. I dont care if it is front or back camera as long as at least one works.

(I am documenting things that I shouldnt remember a lot using camera currently and I cant really live without it)

Great to have this tutorial, but I have similar question as my predecessor, I just want to clarify it:

You are mentioning root-boot.img while the v23 is having boot-verified.img.

So you are not using boot-verified.img from v23 android rom but rather the one from linux rom?

Thank you for tutorial, I am trying to remove selinux enforcment and this is a very valuable tutorial for me.

I have just "fixed" android kernel sources, if this tutorial works (https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?topic=36338.0), I will have a solution in a day or two - kids, wife, job doesnt really help in that  ;D

Actually RIGHT now, I have figured out, why I get into bootloop... damn selinux :@ Like it is not enough manace on normal linux distributions, they included it into android.

Currently I am not aware how to disable it (on linux it is simple, on android it looks like it is done build time and enforced by default on post 4.x versions) , but I am digging trough...
services.jar is deodexed and properly patched, I have decompiled the patched code and it seems legit.

Looks like there are following options:
- one is boot.img and disabling selinux by rebuilding kernel, this is the most annoying part, I am reluctant to touch boot.img
- creating a new rule for services.jar (prefered option, I want it running due to potential that applications are checking for it)
- find some other way to disable it

If anyone knows anything about selinux on android, some help would be appreciated (just consider, that I am not running the rom - I have system.img mounted on linux and doing changes there)... I will eventually figure it out but any shortcut is welcome

I am glad that I was busy and postponed the deodex'ing my Cosmo... Is the bootloop occures on both stock and rooted firmware, or one of theme?

I am also very interested in deGoogify the OS as far as it let us to...

It doesnt matter if it is rooted or not, immediately when it is deodexed, it goes into bootloop =/ I wasnt able to find any way how to fix this :(

It would be nice if planet pc would release non deodexed version :(

6
And failed.

Looks like the problem is in deodexing, once it is done, the device goes into bootloop =/

7
Just an info, I got feedback from haystack author and I think I got the culprit... will try to create new rom over the weekend.

8
I am trying, I have cosmo from first batch and I have never put sim card, it is not acceptable as long as google is on phone. So either I will figure it out, linux/sailfish alternative will come out or I will sell cosmo and buy something else.

9
I am building a custom rom based on v23.

I have successfully deodexed and patched services.jar with haystack (https://github.com/Lanchon/haystack) but it looks like that replacing google gmscore with microg gmscore throws cosmo communicator into bootloop.

Is anyone having any expirience haystack patch (i have decompiled the patch and the changes seem fine to me), microg or knows how to logcat booting on cosmo/android9?

Customer Support 1 (Planet Computers) Jun 26, 2020, 4:39 PM GMT+1 Dear Daniel, I'm actually not sure what happened here exactly, but I would like to rule out a possible hardware failure by asking you to perform a manual installation of the v22 firmware. You can install the latest v22 firmware by using this manual installation (http://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Cosmo_Android_Firmware_Manual_Installation).
This is valuable information, but got corrupted in the process of you posting it.  I suspect you want this link: https://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/C...al_Installation

Thank you so much for this!!!

Since linux support will probably never be done (no, linux support is not booting and then most of hardware doesnt work - camera, calls, bluetooth, sms, mobile networking), even less sailfish, I need to mod my Cosmo, to remove google play  (for last 10+ years I dont use any phone that has google spyware on it so after months of having cosmo, I never used it as a phone, firewall with google domains blocked helps but I wont plug in my sim card untill I get rid of it) and other bloatware and patch the android for signature spoofing to be able to use microg.

This link is not within menu, and I was struggling with modding live os. Now it is going to be much easyer!

Thaaaaaank you very much!!!

* Suspend and Resume - on open / close

* Initial Voice Call telephony support

Both have now been implemented and are being tested.

Is anyone aware what is with it? Does the calling work?

It works not out of the box .
Please read the full topic in https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showto...36275&st=45

My posts and Szopin. Please follow also the links I had mentioned. A work, I know. Mine has my own compiled kernel ( with commits )  to lid suspend support .
Tested phone dialer ( speaker from dialer activated and lid open ) and sms and it is working. Also lid suspend works . Internet data ( sim card ) doesn' t work at this moment.

Thank you for your answer, now I know what I will do in next few days (if I succeed to escape from my family on a beach ).

One more question: are standard devices working, like bluetooth and camera. I would really like to escape from android jail.

I really wish they'd open up the architecture a bit...
Why would not they open architecture completely? This is a device that supposed to support linux without android. Where is this linux community they keep referring to. It is more like secret society. Nothing like open source community

I would also love to know that. 17 days back they have published in update:

We have not updated you on Linux for a while, but we have also been working in the background on some features.

We are working on the following features:

* Suspend and Resume - on open / close

* Initial Voice Call telephony support

Both have now been implemented and are being tested.

I would like to help, if nothing else with testing, my device was bought to get rid of android and now it is on a shelf waiting for better (linux) days.

Where or who is this community?

I got myself into a boot loop, does someone maybe know what partitions to restore with twrp (i have created backup with v19 while I got into into bootloop with firmware v21)?

(Probably posted in wrong part of forum: https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=36230)

You can restore to v19 firmware . Please see my post below :

https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showto...15&start=15

Thank you, i have seen this post before but restoring from twrp is much more simple, thats why I am asking, I intend to play around android quite a bit and I would love to have a fast way to restore and backup and twrp is perfect for this. But I am confused by the amount of partitions and I would like to know which should be restored.
