Hi all. Here's what I've got.

Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 includes usb cable, house charger & carrying case
Hawking 10/100 CF Ethernet card
SMC SMC2642W CF WiFi card

Sharp CE-AG06 CF camera card
PQ 2gb CF memory card
512mb CF memory card
Micro IR keyboard

How do those of us yet without build environments have something compiled? Post a request in the bugtracker?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
At the time, I considered this question, [a href=\"http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/mw/index.php/How_do_I_request_a_package_to_be_included_in_the_feeds]I would have answered "yes"[/url].[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Now that you point that out, I now remember reading that   . But regardless, of course by the time I get back to this, [a href=\"http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/repo/?action=details&pnm=uqtreader]there it is[/url]! kewl

Someone will still have to write the appropriate recipes into OpenEmbedded (and maybe provide the appropriate patches).[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Like the one Michael Krelin did a few weeks ago:  ?[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=165229\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I'd love to see that too. How do those of us yet without build environments have something compiled? Post a request in the [a href=\"http://bugs.openembedded.org/]bugtracker[/url]?

Should I use u-boot or just leave the boot loader as is?[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164721\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
To install R197, you have to use u-boot.

I don't know why esd was required - but gpe-dm wouldn't start without it.
Interesting. I don't have that intalled & it works fine for me.

Seems that Angstrom sites are down at the moment....[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164676\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

did you ever try to write something with xstroke or sketchbook? Didn't you feel hard to click on buttons?[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
No, I guess I never did. My Z use is limited to reading ebooks & enews & watching videos. Not much touchscreen activity required for that .
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164674\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Well thanks for the heads up, but how much of an issue is it?
If my C860 becomes unusable I will be as sick as a parrot.  I set it up ages ago and it has been so long that I cannot remember what I did![div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164675\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Make a [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=NAND_Flash_Backup]NAND backup[/url] first. Then it's relatively easy to restore if you change your mind (I can't find the relevent restore info right now, but it's there). HTH

The solution for Akita is:

# ipkg update
# ipkg upgrade
# ipkg install xserver-kdrive-fbdev
# ipkg install  task-base-extended angstrom-x11-base-depends angstrom-gpe-task-base angstrom-gpe-task-settings esd[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Thanks for letting us know. I'll update the [a href=\"http://www.linuxtogo.org/gowiki/AngstromManual]Angstrom wiki entry[/url]. I notice that you added esd from what was originally recommended. What was the reason? thks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Should I Use R197 On C860

you should definitely stick with beta1. You can't neither compare beta1 with r197. The Zaurus is a touch screen AND keyboard platform, so - to me - having the touchscreen not working properly is a no-go. Since beta1 is the last release with properly working touchscreen, you have no alternative.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164669\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I used r197 for quite some time on my boxer. What touchscreen issues are you referring too?

Thanks for the tip, John.

I'd rather reply to the mailing list, but gmane.org is out of the loop for now :-(
I've taken care of that.

You said you renamed both files to *.bin,  I think that is incorrect (I know this is not the way to go for the collie).  You should try with zImage, not zImage.bin.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164477\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Actually the naming convention is ok, it was because my flash partition size had been changed from my pdaxrom install. I thought that reflashing one of my Cacko images would've fixed that, but I had to go back to an original Sharp image.

Now I have the latest console image installed. And it recognized my 4GB, split partitioned (vfat & ext2) SD card right away. So far so good.  Now I have to figure out where to go from here (like, say, get a gui running).

Thanks for your help guys.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Upgrading Beta1/beta3 To Pdaxii13

Er, I'm not really very technical so I don't know why I dabble with these things.
'cause it's fun?

I did have fun with pdaxii13 on my c860, but found that installing things from various beta3 feeds would break it regularly, so I kind of gave up. I never did solve the rotation problem on exiting X, and really I was never likely to.

Right now I'm trying Angstrom - glutton for punishment - and I suspect strongly that this will be a wasted effort for me. However, finding that my 1 GB SD was mounted automatically by it I popped in my 2 GB card and it was mounted OK too! This card I originally bought for my Z, but finding it didn't work, it has languished in my loox 720 (yuk). I haven't got anything bigger to try, but perhaps there is something in it for you if you need larger SD support.[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Actually you now have me curious about Angstrom support for the C860. I just sent a note to the devel list yesterday 'cause the latest console image won't run at all for me (see [a href=\"http://lists.linuxtogo.org/pipermail/angstrom-distro-devel/2007-July/000449.html]here[/url] for details, no answer yet). But you say you're running it? How did you get it installed, if you don't mind me asking?

On second thought, maybe the reply should be in a different thread so we don't get this one off track. Post here. thks
