For Sale / Wanted / Fs: Sl-c3100 Like New (now $400) (sold)

I gotta cancel selling mine.  I stuck ads everywhere!  1src, PalmInfocenter, BrightHand, Tapland, Aximsite, and Computer Forums.

Gah, that's too bad.

I had no way of knowing if you were serious or not. Usually when people say "i'll sell my xxxx to buy that new fangled xxxx" they're joking or daydreaming. If you had committed to a sale, I'd have sold it to you.  Then again, even if I'd thought you were serious, the only way to beat other people to a good sale is to come cash in hand!

If you aren't satisfied with your current machine, I suggest you sell, save a few extra dollars, and upgrade.

@sds:

I'm not leaving the community - just giving a neglected piece of hardware a new home. I haven't used the zaurus as much as I'd like to have, and I feel like someone else would put it to better use. The price is decent, but it's not a donation - I did get some good use out of it!

I don't plan on posting on ebay - i'm going to wait until someone on oesf is ready to buy.

You would easily have gotten your originally suggested price at, say, eBay.
(BTW, why are you selling it after being an active member for so long?)

Anyway, I consider your new price a donation to the OESF community.
Too bad I have already 2 SL-Cxxx.

But if somebody is willing to match a $50 donation of mine to get the machine to either the OZ or the pdaXrom teams (both of who do not have it), please let's talk.

Selling a like-new SL-C3100 (perfect condition) with all original packaging, software, cables, etc. I bought this from Dynamism, and I believe there may be some warranty time left which I would transfer to you (assuming they allow xfer).

Asking $400 + shipping (from NY) which is not much more than the price of a C1000, except you get the 4GB microdrive.

Has the latest cacko on it, but will flash with whatever ROM you like, if you wish.

Also have a WCF11 wireless CF card and 1GB SD card available but only if you want to buy with the zaurus.

Just dropped the price down $50! Sorry guys, $400 is my rock bottom.

Thanks trisoft,

I had been running OpenBSD and had blown away my partitions and needed an easy restore method.

By the way, for those not familiar with fdisk, just boot into linux (b+d on reboot) and do fdisk /dev/hda. Delete your existing partitions with 'd'. Create new partitions with 'n', all primary. Set types with 't' according to the readme in the trisoft file. Exit with 'w' when done, but print with 'p' to check before. When you're done with your partition table, run the mkfs/mke2fs commands in the readme. Mount the /dev/hda1 /dev/hda2 partitions with 'mount /dev/hd# /hdd#' where # is 1 or 2. Then for each drive  'mkdir /hdd#/.sys' and 'cp -r /mnt/cf/hdd#sys /hdd#/.sys' to restore the drive contents (assuming your CF card is mounted on /mnt/cf. Use /mnt/card if you're doing SD). Reboot into your ROM installer and you should be OK.

After 2 days of goose-chasing a bad SD card I  was finally ready to install a ROM and then to my horror realized my partitions were gone, and much to my relief, trisoft came to the rescue.

OpenBSD / About Running Openbsd Vs Other Distributions

I'll second albert's applause. Thanks, and good job adding some useful literature to the forums. There really isn't much writeup on OpenBSD Zaurus, being the small niche it is!

OpenBSD / Reading Project Gutenberg Etexts

The idea of using emacs, vi, or even lynx as an ebook (plaintext/html) reader annoys me. Has anyone found a reader program that will organize your books, give you permanent bookmarks by page or chapter, or do anything else that's useful for a reading program?

There has to be something good out there that will compile on a BSD and not use Java or KDE...

Help.

OpenBSD / Backlight?

I'm puzzled about this still. I've found nothing in the docs about changing the brightness of the backlight, is it actually possible?

I ask as it's very useful to turn it down to save battery, but then back up when you need to use it in brightish light.

I'm pretty sure this works in X, not just in the console. Press the button that's immediately right of left-ctl and either 3 or 4 simultaneously to adjust the backlight.

Check openbsd.org/zaurus.html for a list of supported USB 802.11 adapters.

OpenBSD / Upgrading To New Snapshot
« on: September 28, 2005, 01:32:48 pm »
Just follow the install instructions at the bottom of the zaurus page on openbsd.org. Basically you'll copy the necessary files to an SD or CF card (FAT 16 formatted), boot into single user mode (you can do this even if you have nothing on your hard drive). Once in single user mode, just follow the directions in the install guide. The install guide also covers which files are needed, and how to get into single user mode.

Good luck!

P.S. it's a good idea to remove any CF cards during this process, as it seems to mess things up (caused me to lose several hours)

This is a guess - maybe barryg or someone else has the actual answer. Try downloading zboot again (in case it got corrupted) and boot it again.

For Sale / Wanted / Wanted: Socket Cf Bluetooth Card
« on: September 22, 2005, 05:59:37 pm »
I've found that the only way to get these is to order them via Socket, or find a reseller (although they are just going to order them from Socket anyway... noone seems to stock them).

I had one a while back and sold it - now I regret it. I bid on a couple of them on ebay, but they went up so high it wasn't worth it.

If anyone finds a good source of them, I'd be interested too.

OpenBSD / Openbsd And Linux - Using Your Zaurus
« on: September 22, 2005, 05:05:06 pm »
First problem - you're not using 3.8 snapshots!

3.8 is set to be release very shortly, but in the meantime, use the snapshot install. See the openbsd.org/zaurus.html page (very bottom) for snapshot links. I never ran 3.7, but 3.8 does horizontal text just fine, and has been extremely stable (although I have trouble with apm sleep and my NIC).

Most of us (if not all of us) are running snapshots.
