General Discussion / Motorola Droid
« on: November 23, 2009, 05:39:24 pm »
I sold my Tosa a while ago to get a combined phone/PDA (it's an LG Incite, I like it alot, but it's Windows Mobile) (bad choice, by the way, I desperately miss it) and my heart is aching for embedded linux.  I haven't thought much at all about Android because I'm not a google fanboy.  I use www.google.com because it is powerful and simple, I use gmail because it is well organized and effective.  I certainly don't make a point of loving the company.

But the Motorola Droid has really piqued my interest (it is certainly sexy hardware) as an embedded linux device.  Does anyone here have the Droid, (or even a different Android phone) that can speak to the experience?  How powerful is it as a linux platform?  How modifiable is the distribution/hardware?  Would you recommend an Android Phone?

Thanks,
AeroSigma

PS- Since I'm on AT&T here in the US, the CDMA(Verison) 'DROID' won't work for me.  The "MILESTONE' is a GSM(AT&T/T-Mobile) version of the same phone.  Is there anyone in Germany or Italy that would be willing to/capable of exporting the phone for me?

For Sale / Wanted / Fs: Sl-6000 (tosa)
« on: February 23, 2009, 01:42:56 pm »
*UPDATE*  I've listed this on eBay starting at $200.  Click here if you're interested.

I know that you all know what the Tosa is like, so I won't try to sell you on it.  I hate to get rid of it, but since the company gave me a laptop, I've got just too much electronics to carry around.

Here's some of the programs that I've put on it.  I've installed an Tetsu's optimized kernel which, among other optimizations lets you overclock. I run it at 600Mhz with no problems.  I have installed some other programs like a memory monitor, enhanced battery monitor and VNC capability, as well as some good video and emulation software.

I'll include a CD that has a copy of the original CD that came from Sharp as well Mirrors from a couple of the feeds, so you'll have a local compy of some of the programs. I'll include a 2GB CF card too. It has a USB docking-station and power cord that came with the device, as well as a seperate USB tether cord. It has a screen protector as well as the removable clear plastic flip-up screen guard. I also have a USB adapter (mini-B to Female A). and i'll include a portable rollable rubber keyboard too.

There is a little cosmetic crack on the bottom corner of the device that dosen't effect operation, and could be fixed with a little silver paint. I usually have left the device on, or suspended, but when I turn it off I sometime have to press the power button quite a few times to get it to turn back on. It always has turned on for me, but sometimes I just have to be patient for a minute or two. I haven't noticed this when resuming from a suspended state.

Hopefully this can go to good use.  It's a great PDA, but I am forced to consolidate.  I'm asking $300 or best offer. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

I just found out about the Aigo P8860 MID, and it's piqued my interest.  Does anyonw know much about it?  It's preformance capabilities?  I'm really thinking about the Pandora, but I want to evaluate all my options first.

User Request for Applications / Gcc
« on: August 07, 2008, 07:30:58 pm »
I've got an SL-6000 running the Sharp ROM on Tetsu's Kernel, and I need gcc.  I've tried installing zgcc2 I've followed directions for zgcc elswhere, I've tried zgcc from pdaXrom, none of them have worked.  Can anyone point me to a simple way to get a c compiler on my zaurus?  I'm not trying to compile big awsome applications to run on my Z, I don't need make or ./configure, I just want to be able to compile and run simple self-coded programs while I'm learning C. Can anyone help me out here?

Sharp ROMs / Fast Kernel Packages.
« on: June 25, 2008, 04:15:04 pm »
I would really like to try out the fast kernel on my Sharp ROM.  I've got the zImage, conslscroll and update.sh, directly from Testu's site, but I can't get the other componentes referenced in the wiki, since externe.net is down.  I have the kernel modules from Tetsu's site (it's an .ipkg format, but it directs to /lib/modules, so that should be fine.) but I don't have the updated keyboard definitions.

Does anyone have the keyboard definitions: holdkey.tbl, keycode.tbl and keysymbols.tbl?

Shoulding the Open Zaurus sub forum in  Distros, Development, and Model Specific Forums > Distro Support and Discussion be changed to Angstrom, seeing as the project has changed?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Browser Installation
« on: June 25, 2008, 01:18:33 pm »
I've got an SL-6000 (Tosa) with r8 and I am trying to install a web browser. gpe-mini-browser installs but when I tell it to go to a page, it just disaplays "loading" forever, so I thought I'd try a different browser. However, whenever I try to install minimo or openmoko-browser2 ipkg fails with a "no space left on drive" error. Is anyone else experiencing this? Do I have my ROM partitioned incorrectly? I wouldn't expect it to fail when just installing one program and it's dependancies.

EDIT: I think this is happeneing because It's trying to install to the / partition, which is 28.0M large, with 19.6M used, as opposed to the /home partition, which is 29.0M and 2.1M respectivly after a fresh NAND restore then update. Shouldn't ipkg be installing packages to /home? Or perhaps Angstrom should be using a standard linux filesystem with / and /home on the same partition of all 64M ROM?
