For Sale / Wanted / Wanted: Cl760, Cl860 Or A Sl-5600
« on: August 27, 2005, 12:22:53 pm »
Here are the prices I'm willing to shell out for each individual unit:

SL-5600: $150.00CDN
CL760: $200.00CDN
CL860: $250.00CDN

These are the prices I'm willing to pay for a [virtually] undamaged unit with the origional manual and driver CD-ROM. I don't require any accessories (all though if I see a list I might want to buy them), and shipping and handling are not included in the listed price.

If you have a unit to sell me, just sent me an e-mail. My e-mail is my alias (aka. nickname: "HearWa") + @gmail.com.

This item will need to be shipped to New Brunswick, Canada.

Thank you.

What's the general procedure that I should follow when an SD card won't mount? It usto work perfectly on the old Sharp rom.

Hello,

I've replaced the screen protector three times now and have yet to put it on without the plastic capturing bubbles between it and the screen. I've even tried slowly putting it on with a q-tip, but alas the same thing happened. Is it just the nature of the screen protectors to do this or am I doing something wrong? What are the best screen protectors out there?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Kernel Panic
« on: March 07, 2005, 06:57:18 pm »
So, I ran out and bought a CF card to flash my Zaurus SL-5500. I followed the flashing directions perfectly (including checking checksums & taking the card out once I finish flashing), and apparently it worked but with only one small problem. Kernel panic.

The first errors I begin to see are something like the following:
(stuff that I can't read because it dissapears too quickly)

About 50 of these:
jffs2_scan_eraseblock(): magic bitmask 0x1986 not found at [address]

Then about 50 of these:
Inode #[number] was a directory with children - removing those too...

Then, the dreaded:
VFS: Mounted root (jffs2 filesystem) readonly.
Freeing init memory: 80k
Kernel panic: no init found. Try passing init=option to kernel.

So apparently the initrd.bin file isn't on my cf card? I'll have to get a card reader/writer now. :S

This isn't what you would call a "brick" is it? I can still flash it and such.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz Development
« on: March 07, 2005, 01:00:17 am »
Hello,
I've recently bought a second hand Zaurus SL-5500 and have become obsessed with it. The fact that the Zaurus is such a (comparitively) new platform to develop for has me wanting to jump in and help out with its development. And developing specifically for the Open Zaurus ROM, I feel, is the best way to do this.

I have experience in Linux (still learning), C/C++, Java and a smattering of x86 assembly. I've been working on my first large piece of software, a multi-user dungeon, for awhile and have almost completed the engine. But, alas, I don't feel anybody really needs this piece of software. I'd really like to put my effort into something that people need or want badly (so I could tease them with release dates like a donkey chasing a carot, etc.  ). I also would like to release my software under the GPL... I hate seeing people charge money for Zaurus software.

So what can I do to help out? I'm willing to work on an independant project, port something or just about anything else.

I haven't even got OZ installed on my Z yet (no CF card), but I'm willing to learn everything I can about this fascinating handheld just to turn it into my bitch.

Thank you,
- Dustin Cox.

5x00 Hardware / Can You Change The Body?
« on: February 10, 2005, 08:51:01 pm »
I just got my 5500 from ebay and am having a great time with it. However, it has some "minor" cosmetic damage to the outside of the case that is really bugging me. I've been trying to come up with some ways to fix this. So far I've come up with two things:

1. Get a new body for the Zaurus somehow... do companys sell these? All I need is the cover outside the screen.

2. Sand the stupid grey gloss off the front somehow. But is it possible to sand plastic (perhaps with a really fine sandpaper)?

The screen is still in great condition... the owner always kept a protective cover on it, so no worries there!

Thank you.

5x00 Hardware / Sd Card Mounted Read-only
« on: February 10, 2005, 06:39:09 pm »
Hello,
I just bought a 5500 from ebay and it is working great. Earlier today I put some MP3s on an SD card to listen to with the Sharp ROM 2.38. Unfortunately I now can't seem to do any writing operations on the SD card. Every time I insert it it automatically mounts as read-only.

Does anyone know what's going on? Thank you.
