5x00 General discussions / Recommended Distro For Collie

Since OZ is dead, and the current install on my collie being messed up (from the get go, things never really worked quite right on it when I dropped 3.5.4 on it), I'm wanting to drop something on it, but not sure of my options.

Angstrom, OZ's successor, doesn't really support the Collie. List of decently broken things, and no official support. But are things that bad off?

Cacko's website appears to be no more (squatters have the domain), so can't grab it there, and the ZUG's download section appears to be broken (it loads up the main portion of the downloads, no matter what category I click on, and direct links followed from other sites to downloads do the same). Anyone know the deal on where to get it?

Outside of these two, I really have no clue. Personally, all I ever do on my collie is play Doom (with prboom), use Gaim and a IRC client (although not much), messing around on the commandline, ebook reading, text editing, and basic PIM. What options do I have for a 5500 now?
tkcrom with the home on sd script. If you search the 5500 forum you'll find a site to download it from. If you look you'll also find an initrd that allows SD cards greater than 2GB.

In the same place you'll find an inird that lets the Sharp rom use the home on SD script and also break the SD limit.

It is a shame about the download section: I think it is up to dz finding the files and the time to sort out the ZUG entry point to these forums etc.

Cheers
What he said. I have the exact same configuration (with a 512MB SD card for my home).

For software repositories, add these two lines to /etc/ipkg.conf:
src opiefeed https://www.oesf.org/howto/feed/
src alohavillage http://alohavillage.com/zaurus/feed/

For Sale / Wanted / Wanted: Cl760, Cl860 Or A Sl-5600
« on: August 27, 2005, 12:22:53 pm »
Here are the prices I'm willing to shell out for each individual unit:

SL-5600: $150.00CDN
CL760: $200.00CDN
CL860: $250.00CDN

These are the prices I'm willing to pay for a [virtually] undamaged unit with the origional manual and driver CD-ROM. I don't require any accessories (all though if I see a list I might want to buy them), and shipping and handling are not included in the listed price.

If you have a unit to sell me, just sent me an e-mail. My e-mail is my alias (aka. nickname: "HearWa") + @gmail.com.

This item will need to be shipped to New Brunswick, Canada.

Thank you.

When you say "unused," do you mean without any damage (screen, body, keys)? How many times have you used it? Have you flashed it any?

Thank you.

When I do fdisk /dev/mmcda, it goes:
Warning: invalid flag 0x0000 of partition table 4 will be corrected by w(rite)

I've tried alot of thing, but nothing has worked yet. What should I do to make a new partition? 'p' shows no partitions on the card!

Try adding a partition to the card.
I've downloaded and installed the SD fdisk utility, but I'm not sure what the executable is named for me to use it in the CLI. What is it named?

Thank you.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Sd Card Won't Mount
« on: April 05, 2005, 06:48:33 pm »
Every time I insert it I can see mmcda listed in /cat/partitions. When I go to mount it to an empty directory, however, I get this:
Mount: mounting /dev/mmcda1 on /mnt/blah failed: Invalid argument.

When I set the SD card as read-only by the little switch on it, it gives me many of these messages before reporting the same error:
mount: /dev/mmcda1 is write-protected, mounting read only

Does the SD card have a bad partition or something? Like I said, this worked fine on the old Sharp ROM (but there's no way I'm going back now, I heart OZ!).

What's the general procedure that I should follow when an SD card won't mount? It usto work perfectly on the old Sharp rom.

Great, thank you. I'll try it out tonight.

Hello,

I've replaced the screen protector three times now and have yet to put it on without the plastic capturing bubbles between it and the screen. I've even tried slowly putting it on with a q-tip, but alas the same thing happened. Is it just the nature of the screen protectors to do this or am I doing something wrong? What are the best screen protectors out there?

5x00 General discussions / Dashed Line At Bottom Of Screen
« on: March 28, 2005, 12:54:41 pm »
Hello,

I have just taken my Zaurus 5500 apart and put it back together and have run into the same problem. Since the screen was removed and everything I can only think of two possible reasons for this happening.

The more optimistic reason would be this occurs on all the Zaurus 5500's, but I have somehow placed my screen to high. This seems logical since the dashes don't seem to occupy any space I need for viewing the screen, but I could be wrong since I'm judging this by looking at the cursor from a failed OZ flash.

The second reason could be I have damaged or pulled out the ribbon cable that attaches to the right side of the screen. This could be my problem too since I was having some problems putting it back together. Now, since the dashes appear only occasionally on yours this sounds like it is the case. I hope not, but it is a possibility.

If the problem really bugs me I might take it back apart and see if I could fix it somehow. If I do this I'll tell you how it went.

I'm done. Check it out!

I love the finish. I may have rushed the corners on the front a bit, but it still looks a billion times better.

I love the final look. Check out what I done with the battery cover.
