Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Start, restart looping...
« on: November 30, 2019, 03:56:45 pm »
IMHO this Cosmo, my device, is a lame, buggy PoShite.

After charging it this morning because the battery bleeds out and dies as if it was beheaded, the dang thing powers on, says 'hello', displays starting up and then shuts itself down as I open the cover.

It seems to not complete booting up.

Opening the cover (the display is blank / DARK / no splash), the device shuts down and repeats the same nonsense.

IF / when it might display the unlock / enter pin keypad (after entering pin) and opening the cover, the PoS reboots and the loopiness begins anew.

Cannot get into it...

My Cosmo is useless.

IMHO, Planet cares naught. They are deluged with support email over the Cosmo's myriad flaws.  to which I added this loopy BS.

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Launchers... From Worst to Best

NOVA Launcher

I used and liked the paid for "pro" version of Nova Launcher in my Gemini.

However, now I find it less than optimal on my Cosmo, such that I have reluctantly UNinstalled it.

What say you?

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Disabling Android Features
« on: November 13, 2019, 09:06:31 am »
How to remove the annoying, monstrous home page footprint of the "search" bar?

Well, I disabled Google and that removes its search bar.

HOWEVER, disabling Chrome DOES NOT remove its search bar (and leaves one without a decent browser).

WTHeck?!

Any how-to git'er done and gone instructions are WELCOMED!

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Locked out and helpless
« on: November 11, 2019, 02:47:22 pm »
Seems that after entering my PIN through the cover display, there is a keypad on the opened display that asks for one's
personal security password that is NOT the same as the PIN.

So, I am locked out.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Curved Hinge
« on: August 30, 2018, 11:52:04 am »
My Gem's curved hinge is slowly loosing its strength.
Its once rather upright angle is widening.
The top, screen panel is weakening because of one's many, yet, softest of touch-screen taps / touches.
Touching the screen will most probably, increasingly and eventually widen the hinge's curved shape, and the top panel will almost lay back flat.

And so I wonder if anyone has removed the hinge (seems doable) and squeezed it back into its original shape?

That asked, I suspect that effort will work but only temporarily as flexed metal actually becomes weaker.

Please advise with your thoughts and....

Ifanafi

P.S. ATTENTION Planet: Might the hinge be sold as a replacement part when the above happens, as it most likely will in time?

-----------------------------------

UPDATE: Planet emailed today (31st of August) saying the hinge can be removed using the removal tool AND squeezed gently back into shape, as it were (but cautioned not too much that getting it back on the device becomes difficult or impossible). And they added that if the hinge loses it hold, in time, they will ship me / whomever a new hinge (free) under the Gemini's ONE YEAR WARRANTY (from date one received their Gemini).

That is good and welcomed custom support!

Thanks Planet.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / USA Phone & Data Networks

USA Phone & Data Networks: Which ones work or don't work and why...

There is much consternation herein with USA phone carriers / data networks services that are or have become incompatible with the Gemini 4G WiFi device.

That is because the Gemini is UNCERTIFIED by them. Certification is an expensive nuisance. One Planet Computers is not (Yet, if ever?) able to invest in.

The reality is that some Gemini backers on networks like VERIZON, which are known to restrict and hobble their SIM chips so that settings like APN cannot be changed, and more... are less than fully functional.

Such is the sorry state of this backer's Gemini use - SMS / TEXTS are sometimes sent, other times not. Since the latest firmware update, SMS / texts are now not received when they are sometimes sent.

LIST OF USA NETWORKS:

1. VERIZON = serious problems with calls and / or text messaging.

Your input about Verizon is welcomed.

Info about other USA networks that work 100% is welcomed.

Thank you.

P.S. I am minutes away from pulling the SIM from my Gemini (writing it off as a loss) and resurrecting my factory-reset Samsung Galaxy S5.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Question about Gemini's USB-C cable
« on: April 20, 2018, 02:26:57 pm »
Indulge me, please.

The Gemini includes a USB-C Mains Charger to be used on the device's left-side USB port.

Does that "charger" have a pronged, plug end for plugging directly into a wall outlet or through a USB-A male end to  the ubiquitous, boxy adapter?

I can't recall what was said about that in PC's Indiegogo 'comments' pages.

If the charger is exclusively for direct outlet connecting, then I guess I will need a USB-C to USB-A male cable for the device's right-side USB port, among other cable types.

Thanks in advance for all's helpful replies.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Tips & Tricks & Shortcuts
« on: February 23, 2018, 12:04:42 pm »
Culled these tips / shortcuts from the first reviewers critiques.

1. Because there is NO "power" button, you must hit the Escape key once the Gem is open or you get to the generic Power Off / Reboot via Esc-Spacebar.

2. Because there is NO volume adjustment button / toggle, you must "use function keys (Fn-C and Fn-V) to adjust volume".

3. "Whatever you do, NEW USERS, don't set the pop-up Planet toolbar to always on. What happens is that the toolbar's menu grabs the focus and can't then be dismissed."

4. The workaround when the physical keyboard doesn't work, you can access the on-screen soft keyboard via the Emoji key sequence Fn-? (function key then question mark key).

Please share your tips / shortcuts, etc. herein.

THNX.

Question:

What are the listed apps “advertised” in the “Planet App Bar” that must be downloaded and installed?
