C1000/3x00 Hardware / Sharpc3100 Or Nokia N810?
« on: August 06, 2009, 02:53:56 pm »
I know I said I am looking to get a Sharp C3100 in another thread, used to have one a couple of years ago. However I have been looking at the Nokia N810, which would be better? The main thing is the C3100 is a whole lot harder to find, and I have found the N810 is a bit less expensive. I am looking to buy within the next couple of weeks, I could use a little insight here.

General Discussion / Is The Z, Archos Pma, Etc Dead?
« on: August 14, 2007, 11:36:12 pm »
I know some of this has been touched on in pother previous forums, but has the age of the Linux-powered pda (Zaurus/Archos PMA/Etc.) come to an end? This was in discussion especially when Sharp made the decision to discontinue the Zaurus line. I have also seen  the decline in other PDA lines (Palm and Windows Mobile), with very little news of any new PDAs coming out(personally, the Follio is a sub-notebook, not a PDA).

I have seen other users Z's and other units starting to have problems, and lack of parts does not help. Like you I got into the mobile Linux when it started up, I was lucky recently to get my hands on an Archos PMA430, bit I have concerns that the PDA is about dead to make way for the converged device, which I am not too fond of. So people, what are your thoughts on this?

Archos forum / Questions About The Pma430
« on: July 27, 2007, 01:14:04 pm »
I know it's been a while since I have been back here, but I am currently doing some work with game ROMs, DivX & multimedia files. Which I heard that the Archos PMA430 not only runs off of Linux, but also can run various game ROMs, has anyone had any experience in this area? If this is true, I'd like to find out the best places to shop for one of these units and accessories.

Off Topic forum / Help...i Need To Downgrade!
« on: December 26, 2006, 04:45:53 pm »
Back in July I needed my C3100 for some Linux development, and I got a lot of good use out of it. Sadly, since my recent accident at work, I have only used my Z twice in the past month, and I'm afraid it's starting to collect dust. I think I need to downgrade, but to what?

I should be returning to work next month (Yay!!!), and I'll still be working with Linux, but more with embeded devices than ones like the Zaurus. I still need a PDA, but there aren't many choices out there. I'm not crazy where Palm is heading, and I absolutly detest Windows mobile. One thought is like the Tapwave Zodiac, I have seen a few new ones for sale; or possibly a Sony Clie in decent condition.

Mostly what I need in a PDA is: Appointments, Contacts, Text Editor, and a Photo Viewer, which I would like the wider display(320X480). I don't really need a music player, I'm planning to get a seperate one anyway. When I do sell my C3100, I will be using Ebay...which will cause less problems for everybody. All I need is some advice on this, thanks.

Off Topic forum / I'm Back & I'm Sorry.
« on: December 25, 2006, 12:27:16 am »
After a month of not able to participate in the OESF community, I am glad to return, which I feel I can offer much to this valued community. First I want to apologize for the way I left, which I hope I did not hurt anyone in the process. I had a lot of things going on in my life that put a lot of stress on me and others around me. A lot of the stress was centering around a recent work accident were I broke my leg, and I was very frutrated that the Phyicial Therapy was not helping me to walk again. The good news since then is that I finally started to walk again, and I hope to return to work soon.

I want to very much to be a contributing member of this community, minus the For Sale/Trade section.  My feelings after too many bad trading and buying experiences, I feel I need to steer clear of this section all together.

With that said, I will be more than happy to answer any questions and comments. Also, I would like to wins everybody in the OESF forums a very happy hollidays, and let's make it a great New Year!

General Discussion / Lack Of Intrest In Forums Lately
« on: November 09, 2006, 12:59:44 pm »
Not trying to complain, I now a lot of the forums are set for the technicial and programming side of the Zaurus. However, lately I have seen little to no new threads for news information, Zaurus games, utlities, etc. There have even been fewer threads from new Zaurus owners. I just don't want this to becme a technician's-only site, I just feel there needs to be more interaction around here.

General Discussion / Biggest Reason Why Zaurus Gets Bricked?
« on: October 27, 2006, 06:04:41 pm »
Lately I have been seeing more and more Z's getting bricked or crash. I have had my C3100 using the Cacko 1.23 ROM for the past few months, and crashed only once due to taking too many apps off at one time. Thanks to some of the forums, I was able to get it back up in no time. I'm wondering if certian Z models are more prone to bricking and crashing, or if it is a ROM or software issue?

Off Topic forum / Looking For Linux-compatible Mp3 Player
« on: October 09, 2006, 02:49:57 pm »
In trying to find some extra memory for my Dad's Mp3 player, a Rio 500, I seriously realized he needed a mjor upgrade. The thing only has 64mb of flash memory, and can only take Smartmedia cards which are now obslete. So, I'm thinking a new Mp3 player that is Linux-compatibe around 1GB that can play music, maybe a FM tuner, and can display some photos. Here is the problem, most of the players out there are not Linux-friendly. Anyone out there have any ideas for me?

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Older Z Apps And Rotation On The C3100?
« on: September 30, 2006, 10:35:46 pm »
A lot of the games are designed for the older Z series, and will only work in portrait mode. Is there a way for them to be in the Landscape mode?
