I just noticed a change today January 8 2014.
When reading individual posts in the forum, all the replies are condensed at the bottom of the post into an index.
Were there some changes in the forum software?
Before today, when reading an individual post, all the replies would show on the same page, unless the post was multi-pages long.
I haven't changed anything under my preferences.

Jon

Edit: Nevermind, I found the setting to return the thread to the way they were before today.
I think when I used "Search" recently, I must have inadvertently changed thread settings.

I followed instructions at http://www.omegamoon.com/blog/static.php?page=ZaurusUbuntu
I have the multiboot kexec kernel installed and am able to boot Angstrom and zubuntu from the boot menu with zubuntu on SD and Angstrom on my microdrive. SL-C3100
Basic instructions for booting from an SD card are:
1. Simply extract the filesystem on a CF or SD memory card. (in this case "zubuntu-desktop-rc1.tar.gz")
2. Rename the the kernel image to zImage and copy it into the /boot directory.
3. Create a file named kernel-cmdline containing the kernel startup command line and optionally add a file named image.nfo containing a description of the distro.

I have all the necessary files, and I can change the image.nfo to contain a discription for pdaxii13.

My question is,  "Pdaxii13 build 4.5.9-beta" contains 5 files:
hdimage-full.tgz
initrd.bin
updater.sh
updater-tools.bin
zImage-2.4.20.bin

I can use "zImage-2.4.20.bin" for the filesystem, and rename "zImage-2.4.20.bin" to just "zImage" as mentioned above.
I can probably ignore the 2 updater files, but
what do I do with the "initrd.bin" file?

I'll try using just the "hdimage-full.tgz" and' zImage-2.4.20.bin" and hope this boots like zubuntu does on my SD card.

I already have pdaXii13v2-upgrade installed on my other Zaurus, SL-C3200, so I don't want to install it the regular way on "this" Zaurus SL-C3100

Thank you for anyone who reads this,
Jon

User Request for Applications / Google Chrome Browser On Zaurus?
« on: June 08, 2010, 06:40:31 pm »
Is anyone interested in compiling Google's chrome browser for one of the 26.xx kernel distros such as Angstrom, Debian, or Zubuntu?
I asked a question on chrominum-discuss, and got a reply pointing to the sources.
http://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/gr...3f7b4321987324#
http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/snapshots/

I haven't had any success setting a cross-compiling environment, so I'm asking if any of the more capable persons here at OESF could take a "whack" at it.
I have used Chrome browser on my Dell netbook under windows and ubuntu, and it is not such a resource hog as firefox. It launches and browses fairly quickly on this limited resource netbook.

I am surprised no one has tried this browser on a Zaurus sooner.

I'll try to make this short.
I bought a new PC last week and already had to re-install windows, etc, etc. because of a damaged video driver.
I forgot about using "Restore" (I've never used this feature before).

I formatted my C:\ drive and installed windows xp sp3, motherboard drivers, and the .NET stuff up to version 3.5 sp1

I was ready to install the NDIS driver for my SL-C3100 by using the Sharp CD-ROM
When I plugged my Zaurus in to USB, it just worked!
When I used the windows tray icon to safely remove it, the dialog box had a description of my Zaurus.

Ubuntu / Dhclient Fixed For Spitz
« on: January 06, 2009, 05:07:55 pm »
I didn't see this "fix" anywhere on OESF, so I decided to post it here.
This has worked for me on my SL-C3100. I'm not sure if this works on all covered models.
------------------------------------------------
credit goes to Stefani at omegamoon blog:
dhclient will fail with message "can't create addrlist socket" due the bad or missing support of the kernel capabilities.

Setting the user and group id of dhcp both to 0 (root) will solve the problem.

------------------------------------------------
credit goes to crash at omegamoon blog:
You have to modify the "dhcp" entry in the /etc/passwd file. That was a tip by Stefani earlier before:
"...Setting the user and group id of dhcp both to 0 (root) will solve the problem..."

Ubuntu / Zubuntu Package Descriptions - Where Are They?
« on: January 03, 2009, 12:33:06 pm »
Where do I find the descriptions of available packages in the zubuntu repositories?
In "most" other Zaurus distros, all one needs to do is download the "Packages" file and open it in a text editor.
There you can read the description for each of the packages in the feed. Also shown are the dependencies, and other useful information.

BTW, I did try to search for this on the Ubuntu forums, but came up with no answer.

Ubuntu / Wifi Connection Not Working? - Use Wifi-radar
« on: January 01, 2009, 02:05:45 pm »
I was having a difficult time getting my Z to connect using wifi.
Someone suggested that I blacklist hostap and use orinoco. I wanted to use hostap, instead.
I use hostap in three other zaurus distros with WPA.
I finally found where the "feed" is located for zubuntu and I just downloaded wifi-radar to my desktop machine.
I placed it on a CF card and installed it with dpkg.
It's a python app. Guess what? All dependencies are already installed in zubuntu.
There was one message about an old version of "python-glade2"
It was recommended that I uninstall this, but I haven't yet.
Using wifi-radar, I needed to make a static connection, DHCP didn't work.
First I tried to use the IP, subnet, and gateway shown on my router's "status" page. These numbers didn't work for me.
(I would get one ping, then following pings would not reach the server).
Then, in windows, I just used the numbers shown when you use "ipconfig /all" in a commandline. I'm finally connected!
I couldn't use any of my three ethernet adapters because, two of them draw more than the 150mA limit through USB, and the other one hasn't gotten a driver compiled for it yet.

BTW, I still don't have WPA working yet. I have to disable WPA on my router to connect with zubuntu. Hopefully I'll fix this later.

Edit:
Launching wifi-radar from the commandline causes it to scan for APs. I get error messages about scanning not supported.
Quick fix is to use the disconnect button, as "I think" it is connected to 127.0.0.1
I don't remember now as I'm online and its IP is shown.
If you want to launch wifi-radar from the menu, you'll need to edit its *.desktop file. I just took out the extra switches in this line and made it like this:
Exec=wifi-radar
The original setting was:
Exec=gksudo -S wifi-radar

Edit2: edited title to be more descriptive

Sharp ROMs / Tarball Of Cacko 1.23 Full Anywhere?
« on: December 29, 2008, 08:10:07 pm »
I'm looking for a tarball of cacko 1.23 full, so I can unpack it to an SD card and boot it with multiboot.

If none is available, then what is the best way to tar up a fresh cacko installation for unpacking to an SD card and booting as above?

Thank you,
Jon

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gpe-filemenager And Hidden Files?
« on: December 23, 2008, 07:03:37 pm »
Is there a way to view/browse/copy/move hidden files in gpe-filemanager?
I'm not a console type, I like to use GUI because I remember a lot better when I can actually "see" something, such as a graphic.
I presently use leafpad to browse hidden directories and files, but this isn't a filemanager.
Or, is there a version of emelfm available for Angstrom/GPE?
I used to use emelfm in pdaxii13 before I installed ROX. both of these show hidden files.
I have tried ROX-Filer in GPE, but it cannot find it's icons, and gives an error:
"evoke ROX-Filer with AppRun"

What is AppRun? and where can I find it to use with ROX-Filer?

I have this CF ethernet card, which uses Asix AX88790 driver
Has anyone used this card in 2.6 kernels?
I read somewhere that the AX88790 driver is only available for 2.6 kernels.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / 2 Gb Sandisk Ultra2 Sd Card Problems [fixed]
« on: December 12, 2008, 12:13:09 am »
*** Edit: Fixed by formatting in digital camera. - see post #2***
I have a 2 GB Sandisk Ultra2 SD card that's pretty new and has only been used for storing files.
It's never had a swapfile on it, or ran apps or operating systems on it.
It works fine in Cacko, pdaxii13, my camera, and both of my desktop PCs
Below is output of "dmesg" and "ls -l" on Angstrom and pdaxii13:

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Dillo 2.0 Compatable With Latest Angstrom/libs?
« on: December 10, 2008, 12:54:51 pm »
I want to install Dillo 2.0 on my angstrom C3100 with Angstrom version: "Angstrom-x11-image-glibc-ipk-2007.12-r13-spitz-installkit"
I cannot find it in the default official feeds for my Angstrom version, but I found it in this OZ feed:
openzaurus.org/download/3.5.4.1/feed/x11/
The problem is that the libraries listed for depends are older versions and I don't want to "mix" old libs with the default newer ones.
Can Dillo 2.0 just be installed with the "current" libs for my Angstrom version?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Usb Not Working, Fixed (2 Solutions Now!) :)
« on: December 04, 2008, 10:40:45 pm »
Edited
partial solution hack link in post #4 - missing kernel module in post #5

I cannot get my mouse, or USB stick to work at all in Angstrom. No wonder why USB networking doesn't connect.
lsusb just returns nothing
dmesg just returns "reset USB" "reset USB"
I looked at the installed kernel modules, and it seems that most, if not all USB stuff is installed.
What gives?

Angstrom version: "Angstrom-x11-image-glibc-ipk-2007.12-r13-spitz-installkit.tgz"

I booted cacko and both of these items work, so my USB hardware is OK.

Topic updated: use pccardctl
----------------------------------------------------
What happened to the infamous "cardctl" command?
When in a console, I get:
-sh: cardctl: not found

It seems to be missing from this Angstrom image.
"Angstrom-x11-image-glibc-ipk-2007.12-r13-spitz-installkit.tgz"

which is described on the Angstrom page as:
x11-image
Like console-image but with X11 environment.

I chose this image because the AngstromManual recommends it.

Quote
If you are in doubt which image to choose, use x11-image: it is intended as a starting point for majority of users, offering basic GUI tools to control the device and devoid of application software which not every user may need, thus offering good compromise between usability, size required, and free space available.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Konqueror Needs Qt/embedded Server
« on: December 04, 2008, 03:38:44 pm »
I just installed konqueror-embedded from the Angstrom feed. It looked like it installed fine, but when I run it in a console, I get these errors:
Code: [Select]
0Socket::writtenBlock: Socket is not open
0Socket::writtenBlock: Socket is not open
0Socket::writtenBlock: Socket is not open
0Socket::writtenBlock: Socket is not open
No Qt/Embedded server appears to be running.
If you want to run konqueror.bin as a server,
add the "-qws" command-line option.
I try that and get same results.
I looked in the packages files lists for the base feed, but cannot find a Qt/Embedded server ipk to install.

Where is it located?
