Software / KDE-Pim/Pi 1.9.7 Release
« on: October 17, 2004, 08:58:56 pm »
I can't get OM/Pi to start. It says libssl is missing. I noticed other people had this problem, but I couldn't find a fix mentioned anywhere. Maybe I missed it.

TIA,
Nick

I also thought it'd be cool to be able to use a remote control with my Z.

Not that it would ...you know, serve any practical purpose. Then again neither do car stereo remotes (IMO), but that doesn't stop people from making them. So that means they're cool, right?

Will a Phillips SWK-8640 work? You mention WebTV keyboards on your website, which is why I ask.

Check this post. And search the board before asking a question. Its a faster way to get an answer if the question's been asked before.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Ratoc USB Host
« on: September 20, 2004, 06:46:06 am »
I am trying to use the drivers from this site. REX-CFU1 Device Driver for Linux Zaurus

No errors were reported during the install and the card appears to be recognized, however the device files are not present. Example: USB storage devices like external HDD's and flash card readers use sda1. Could someone show me how to create these files?

TIA,
Nick

Cxx0 General discussions / Carrying case for the C860

I use a GrinderGear Basecamp for my 860. You have to remove it to use, but the case is well built and provides a decent amount of space for accessories.

Am I just being ignorant or is the Woot order page not secure? Secure websites use 'https' vs. 'http' usually (i.e. SSL).

Zaurus - pdaXrom / portabase for pdaxrom
« on: September 07, 2004, 01:48:34 am »
Create a file called portabase.desktop in /usr/share/applications. Put the following in the file.

Code: [Select]
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Portabase
Exec=portabase
Icon=portabase.png
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=Application;Office
StartupNotify=true
Encoding=UTF-8

I copied the icon from /mnt/user/usr/share/portabase/icons to /usr/share/pixmaps. A symlink would work too.  I made the file by copying one of the other .desktop files and changing the relavent information. One note about these files. The binary needs to be in a directory listed in your path statement.

Oh, the Categories field controls which desktop folder it goes into.

General Discussion / Looking for Best 512MB/1GB SD Card for C860

I've had my 512MB SanDisk since November and it works fine.

I would avoid eBay if you plan on buying a big card (512MB+). I had two, repeat two, cards fail and would have been out ~$200 (USD) if not for the store's return policy.

Here's a link to the Career Ops section of my company's website. Feel free to email me with any questions, but I don't know much about the non-manufacturing jobs.

I've had my 860 for about 4 months now and I'm very happy with it, so here's my $0.02 worth.

Screen Protector - The Overlay Brilliant is ranked among the best and I'll be ordering one myself shortly.

Case - I got a $5 generic case and its served me very well. Its padded, has a velcro release belt strap, and space for 2 CF memory cards or a WiFi card.

Memory Cards - My best advice would be to use what you have for awhile, and if you find its not enough then upgrade accordingly.

External Keyboard - If you plan to do a lot typing then I highly reccomend this. Pocketop and Targus are both supported, and they're IrDA so no need for cables.

-Hope this helps

General Discussion / What to Do With 2.5in Hard Drives?
« on: July 25, 2004, 06:12:32 am »
As padishah_emperor said one of these would work.

http://www.cputopia.com/cputopiaonline/drive-enclosures.html

I used one for a standard 3.5 inch drive and it worked like a charm. However, you may need to find one that's externally powered. The Ratoc card only puts out 100mA(5v), which may not be enough to power a harddrive.  Oh, and make sure the drive enclosure is compatible with USB 1.1.

Accessories / Some Question for pocketop
« on: July 06, 2004, 05:03:00 am »
I use it on my C860 so it should work on the C700 too. However, I don't know if the driver has been ported to pdaxrom. The one for use with the Sharp-based ROMs is in the ZUG Downloads area.

Hope this helps.
