Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Re: Forum outage
« on: November 30, 2024, 12:10:58 pm »
Hi all,

regarding yesterday's outage, this is what our host has published today in the support's forum:

"On Thursday the 28th of November 2024 (the Thanksgiving holiday here) in the afternoon, our Domain Registrar suspended our domain due to a false positive in one of their systems. Because of communications complications involving the holiday, it took us more than 18 hours to reinstate the domain. The vast majority of ibiblio-supported sites and service have been impacted. We are still working to resolve the lingering effects and plan future steps to avoid a recurrence of this problem."

Everything is now back to normal, thanks for your patience.

Regarding the install guide, there are a quick and a step-by-step one on the old PdaXRom site:

All the PdaXRom installers are thankfully still online:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/

I have made a bit of research on the contrib/ folder, for some reason there's an index.html at http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/ which redirects to http://distro.ibiblio.org/community, which doesn't exist. All the folders in the directory path below it are still there though. There are two older index files which don't have the complete contributions folders list, but still have some useful infos:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/oldindex.html
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/index.htm

Here's a (hopefully) complete list of the folders:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/1.1.0beta3/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/anunakin/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/armagon/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/Civil/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/daal/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/desertrat/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/docs/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/humit/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/iamphet/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/jabbath/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/merli/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/notes/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/pgas/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/pungipungi/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/rc11+-armv5tel/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/rc5+-armv5tel/ (empty)
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/rgrep/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/shmigol/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/tmp/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/voider/ (which seems to contain a tgzipped copy of voider_feed/)
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/voider_feed/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/Xromer/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/Zaurus-5000D-5500/

I have managed to compile this list since there's a complete mirror of the pdaxrom distro on ibiblio here:
http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributions/pdaxrom/
and here (FTP only):
ftp://ftp.nl.freebsd.org/vol/2/metalab/distributions/pdaxrom/

I'll get on touch with the server's owner, or in alternative with ibiblio themselves to get this sorted out.

Zaurus - Other distros support / Re: Linux kernel version 6 support

You can rest assured that you have my support  :)  I have posted on some Reddit subforums (r/RetroBattleStations, r/Zaurus, r/VintageComputing, r/OldHandhelds) to see if there's any VoidZ user around, and if there's any interested there on a new kernel release.

EDIT: link to the threads:

Gemini PDA - Android / Re: My Gemini is getting to its limits
« on: August 05, 2024, 04:20:15 am »
If this might help you, I have the same problem installing Instagram on my Android 10 phone, Play Store says that my phone is not compatible, but doesn't state what version of Android it requires. I have solved this by installing Instagram via Aptoide.
It would be great to have a port of the latest LineageOS release on all the 3 Planet devices, I hope someday we'll see that released.
Personally, my Gemini has not been working well since more than a year, I'm now thinking to switch to a GPD Micro PC + my current phone, although I'll dearly miss my Gemini's keyboard.

Planet still lists the Cosmo and the Wifi-only Gemini as available on their webshop:

https://store.planetcom.co.uk/products/cosmo-communicator
https://store.planetcom.co.uk/products/gemini-pda-wifi-only

Has anybody recently bought any of them, or knows if they are still accepting orders?

Got my post approved after I have been made moderator of r/Zaurus , heh :)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Zaurus/comments/1cbta39/does_anybody_have_a_copy_of_pp4zaurus_j2me/

On a side note, a complete mirror of Meanie's feed would be also great to find, too bad I didn't mirror it myself back in the days.

EDIT: I have tried to send an email to Meanie, I have probably found a working email address of his, fingers crossed.

I have checked at home in my personal archives but I have not found it. I'll see if I'll find the other file you mentioned, I see it was the actual package inside the .zip file. In the meantime I have tried to ask support on the www.java.com site (though I highly doubt they'll still have the archive) and tried to add a comment in these two old blogs, maybe we'll be lucky and they still have a copy of it, though I'm not sure my comments have passed through...

I have also tried to ask on Reddit, there still seem to be a couple of users lurking there, though my post is being rejected by Reddit's antispam filter, I have sent a message to the mods:

I have also done a search on archive.org, hoping that for one of the multiple redirections there would be a backup, from a different date, to an actual page, but to no avail. I have checked among all the attachments here too, no one has ever uploaded it here. I'll search through my archives this evening and let you know.

Is this required by some program you're attempting to run?

Thanks for forwarding this news. Sad to see Sailfish support to be ended, but it's understandable given the Gemini's age (it's been already 6 years!).

Hrw was OpenZaurus' release manager and a prolific poster on OESF. His work on Arm started when he bought a SL-5500.

I hope to see him logging here someday again to say hello, and wishing him many years of prolific work and fun on Arm platforms!

No signs of life on their Facebook page either, their last post is dated 10th April 2023, for the Spring Special sale offer.

I'm also wondering what's their current status, though their silence is worrisome.

Thanks for this useful hint! I wonder what does OS' memory protection have to do with a flashing tool...

Hi and welcome!

The official Sharp EZaurus site is luckily still online, and they host an update to the latest version of the system software:

http://support.ezaurus.com/sl-c3000/update/c3000update/c3000update.asp

By looking at the included update files this seems to actually be a full system install, the archive contains also an hdimage1.tgz image, I might be wrong but I believe the dictionaries are installed on the internal microdrive:

http://support.ezaurus.com/sl-c3000/update/c3000update/c3000updatecard.asp

・initrd.bin (approx. 4,337KB)
・zImage.bin (approx. 1,264KB)
・mversion.bin (approx. 16KB)
・updater.sh (approx. 7KB)
・hdimage1.tgz (approx. 19,734KB)

Otherwise, I'll check if I have a mirror of the original installation CD. I also have a SL-C3000 which I have bought second-hand from Japan, there's a high possibility the japanese dictionaries are still on the microdrive.

The issue seems to be fixed, I had no certificate issue in the last few days.
