Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Japanese Input

Unfortunately, there is no open source input method for japanese available - hence we don't have one. I think I heard of people wanting to write something, but it doesn't look anything evolved yet.

Mickey,

FYI, there is actually an open-source IM for Japanese [a href=\"http://www.sikigami.com/cgi-bin/sikigami.com/anke-nnmqt1.0.cgi]here.[/url]  It's from a company called Sikigami, and although you need to fill out a questionnaire in order to download the code, it's GPL (I believe).

I had always intended to set up bitbake and try to compile it for OZ, but haven't gotten around to it.

Hrw,

That is great news. . . I can't wait to see what this looks like.

Thanks as always for your hard work.  This goes for all OZ/Opie developers. . .

acpkendo, may I know what rom are you using?

I'm using stock OZ 3.5.3/Opie

But when I tried to do "#apmsleep" in the console, it says "apmsleep" not found or something ...

Hmmm. . . though this command was "apm -s"?

btw, TextMaker is available for $25 ("for a limited time") at theKompany.com.

Wow, that actually makes it tempting.  I tried opie-write, but the HTML files that came out of it didn't transfer very well.  For good or ill, .doc is the best format for cross-platform word processing. . .

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Japanese Input Support In Oz?

Maybe a simpler intermediate step would be getting japanese keyboard input

There is a package called IMKit-Anthy at the Zaurus-ja project site.  I'm not sure whether or not it works on OZ, though.  This is the only other solution I know of.

someone is working on getting numone (or however you spell it) in to OE, which should support kanji via qt input method

That is great news--please let me know if I can help test the packages. . .

On another note, if you need Japanese input you might want to check out Pocketworkstation, which lets you run a Debian installation inside X/Qt.  You should be able to apt-get any Japanese software (scim, kinput2, etc...) you need.

Is it possible to get the japanese fonts installed so that kanji/kana can be displayed?

There are Japanese fonts in the feed.

- read and write MS Word docs (anyone gotten TextMaker or Handcom Word to work with OZ?)

I can confirm that TextMaker works with sharp-compat-libs.  It's a nice program, I just wasn't interested in paying $50 for it.

Deals and Great Z Buys / Where May One Buy A Sandisk Connect Cf?

Niv,

I would imagine that those have been discontinued, but FWIW I have not had a good experience with those cards.  They are extremely unreliable, with a tendency to stop working for no apparent reason.

I don't know what type of "sensitivity" you're looking for, but you can find the Connect+ on-line for less than $25 (Froogle it).  I'd think the prism3 chips would have at least equal (if not better) sensitivity than the prism2's.

Hmmm. . . not sure what the problem is--my Z wakes up on KO/Pi alarms all the time (much to my wife's dismay, especially early on Saturday mornings).

Have you done any editing to apm or the suspend/resume scripts?

I haven't seen anything that would enable this.  You can't use the Qtopia input method from other (gcc-2.95-based) ROMs, b/c the sharp-compat-libs only works on executable files (input methods are shared libraries).

Until someone adds something like anthy or nunome to OZ, I think we're stuck as far as Japanese input goes.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Irk - Pockettop Keyboard

Snappy,

Sorry to hear about your troubles.  Actually, I am using the Targus keyboard, so it may be that the Belkin model uses lirc.  If you're planning on trying this again, I can suggest a couple things. . .

1. Did you install these packages to the SD card?  Did you run ipkg from the command line?  If so, were you sure to follow it up with ipkg-link (the Package Manager does this for you)?  This would explain why things were not linked properly.

2. The "-force-overwrite" option for ipkg should remove the "file already exists" error (it might be a good idea to back up /dev/lirc first).

Good luck. . .

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Kernelmodule Serial_cs Is Missing
« on: August 18, 2005, 10:02:36 am »
Thanks Greg, but all I see in there is kernel-module-serial-fd.  Is "kernel-module-serial_cs" what I should be looking for?  I saw this name in another thread. . .

I can also confirm that the following does not blank the LCD:

Code: [Select]
qcop QPE/System 'setBlankLCD(int)' 1
I confirmed that the system received the command through qcoptest. . . if someone could help me resolve this, I'd be willing to put together a package to add this function to the "O" menu. . .

I installed the latest kernel for oz3.5.3, the one for 20050424 iirc. Later, I also installed the kernel-module-serial_cs... from the same directory.

Could someone please post the package name and feed for the serial_cs.o module?  I've been looking through all the feeds, but can't seem to find "kernel-module-serial_cs" or anything that resembles it.

how should I run mkcompat ? (googling mkcompat now...)

Or, select KP/Pi from the "Libraries" Settings application as you would any other program.
