Accessories / Ea-bl06 Battery In The Uk?
« on: January 22, 2007, 11:04:44 am »
The title says it all.
Where can I buy a EA-BL06 battery in the UK?

I found a site that sells the BL08, but I am guessing that it does not fit in the Zaurus SL-5500.

Thank you for any pointers!

We should probably find a GNU way to pronounce it.

Linux Issues / Suse 10.0 & Zaurus Sl-5500
« on: November 28, 2005, 06:52:03 pm »
OK, here is what I have done to have the Zaurus connected to SUSE 10.0

In the desktop:
1. Create a file in the /etc/sysconfig/network called ifcfg-usb0 with the following entries:

STARTMODE=hotplug
BOOTPROTO='static'
IPADDR=192.168.129.1
NETMASK=255.255.255.
PREFIXLEN=24
BROADCAST=192.168.129.255
REMOTE_IPADDR=192.168.129.201

2. Create a file in /etc/sysconfig/network called ifroute-usb0 with the following entry:
route add -host 192.168.129.201 usb0

3. Set the Zaurus ip address to 192.168.129.201 using the Z's Network application.

4. Set usb0 as the internal network in SuSEFirewall

5. In the desktop run this as root::
# modprobe usbnet
# ifconfig usb0 192.168.129.1 netmask 255.255.255.255 up
# route add -host 192.168.129.201 usb0
# ping 192.168.129.201
(this should show that there is a connection, abort with CTRL+C)

6. Add to /etc/hosts:
192.168.129.201 zaurus

7. Make "usbnet" start when booting using Yast's /etc/sysconfig Editor.
Go to System>Kernel>MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT and add "usbnet" (without the quotations).

That's it
I hope I haven't forgot anything and that the steps are in the right order, Please post any corrections.
Cheers,

Linux Issues / Suse 10.0 & Zaurus Sl-5500

Well, I found out the solution myself so I am posting it in case it is of any use to others.

I added "usbnet" using Yast's /etc/sysconfig Editor.
I went to System>Kernel>MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT and added usbnet.
After rebooting, the zaurus can be connected even using Qtopia Desktop 1.7.0.

Linux Issues / Suse 10.0 & Zaurus Sl-5500

Hi,
I upgraded to SuSE 10.0 from 9.2 and I do not seem to be able to get the usbnet loaded automatically.

I can do:
# modprobe usbnet
# ifconfig usb0 192.168.129.201 netmask 255.255.255.0 up

and ping/connect to the zaurus (runing OZ 3.5.1)

# ifconfig -a
shows correctly the usb0 (I also have the ifcfg-usb0 file in /etc/sysconfig/network
and the file ifroute-usb0 in the same directory.
This alone used to be enough in SuSE 9.2 to get connected each time, but know I have to do the modprobe as above after rebooting.
Is there a way to make this stick so the connection can be achieve after rebooting?
Do I have to add some script somewhere for this?

Many thanks in advance.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.5.1 installed, now what?

I've also installed Opie-mediaplayer2. It runs fine but there's no icon (this is a problem with the ipk).
Sorry to ask such a basic question.

Is there a way to solve the missing icon problem from the console to create one?
Or is it that it will not work even if one is set up?

Thanks,

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Hancom Apps

I've installed Hancom word and sheet.
[...]
Then from terminal "makecompat /opt/QtPalmtop/bin/hancomsheet"

Would somebody be so kind to tell me where do I find "makecompat"?

Would this make the spreadsheet work in the SL-5500?

Thanks,

I really like 3.5.1, it is a great improvement (there is a noticeable increase in speed compared to 3.3.5) so congratulations to all the people involved.

I am missing a few applications, so perhaps some of you may have some suggestions.

Jeod: I tried to install the file. This worked OK in 3.3.5 but I do not seem to be able to make it work in 3.5.1.
Any ideas? Or is there any other Java VM that works in 3.5.1?

Mbox-reader: This does not seem to load either.
I asked the author, but he is using the Sharp rom. How possible is to include this in a future release of OZ?
http://www.tigress.co.uk/rmy/zaurus/MboxReader/index.html

Other applications that I tried and did not work:
opie-mediaplayer1
opie-mediaplayer2
aliens
opie-qasteroids

ipkg-link creates symlinks from wherever you installed the package

In the 3.3.5 version, the ipkg-link must have been executed automatically after installing every package, so I did not know of this linking afterwards.
Now, everything seems to install from the cf card (thanks lardman & cycojesus!)

You rebooted, so this may not apply (as it ought to be done on reboot) - try ipkg-link:
'ipkg-link mount /mnt/cf' (assuming that's where you put it)

Erm... what does that do? I suspect that the package was installed in the ram area.

I also tried the checkers game, same story. It does not appear anywhere.
I cannot believe that I am the only one with this problem...

Thanks,

open a terminal and type ipkg install /mnt/cf/<your-package>.ip

I tried this with opie-tabmanager and it seems to have installed it (although portmat returned an error "1", I think).
However I do not see the tabmanager icon anywhere!
Is there anything else I must do so Opie shows it? I rebooted, but still nothing appears.
(sorry for being so clue-less).

Thanks again.

Thanks. I thought that the Package Manager would see the files in the cf card (this happened in version 3.3.5, but not now). Is this supposed to be like this?

You must make sure your Z networking is fully set up. Make sure the Z has a nameserver configured and that NAT or MASQ, etc. is set up on the server/router box. You can test this; if you can ping a site my name from the Z console it should be working.

Dan,
I am afraid that I have not managed to sort this out, so I am trying to download the files and install them from the cf card.

I set the "masq" option in the firewall configuration, but I am not sure what to do next.
Is the nameserver the ip address of my desktop?

Is there anybody with SuSE 9.1 to help on how to connect to the internet with the Z through USB? (so far I can use ssh and QTopia Desktop, so the connection between the Z and the desktop works OK. My problem is perhaps the firewall)

Cheers

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / 3.5.1 problems
« on: September 24, 2004, 01:20:32 pm »
Hi,
I flashed with 3.5.1 wihtout any problems.
I can connect from SuSE 9.1 to the Z using Qtopia, but I cannot get any programs installed.
I have http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.1/feed/ in the settings of Qtopia Desktop as a Package feed, but no new programmes are shown.

I desperately need to install Korganizer or KOPI, but I haven't got a clue on how to do it. I would be most grateful for any help

The packages copied (using scp) to the cf card, do not seem to be detected by the Package Manager. Any clues?

Thanks,
