6000 - Tosa / Battery Life of Zaurus SL6000L
« on: April 18, 2004, 10:20:12 pm »
:?:
I would like to know what kind of battery life are you people getting from 6000L. I got my 6000L on Friday and charged it fully (six hours). When I started using it, I was surprised that the first 25% (approx.) of the battery power was spent in just 10 minutes. I called SHARP and found those guys to be extremely unfriendly, unhelpful, arrogant and ignorant. The service representative told me that he had absolutely no information regarding the battery life since it hasn\'t yet come from their product people. That bloke didn\'t know to properly answer even basic questions about the product. He asked me to charge the battery for full 24 hours, while the manual indicated time for full-charge as only 4 hours. Anyway... I charged the unit for a full 24 hours. These are the results of my study:

BACKLIGHT: Just a notch above total darkness (that is, 20% backlight).
APPLICATION: Opened up a HancomMobileSheet
WIFI: ON at all times, except on one occassion indicated by (*)
BATTERY CHARGE: FULL (charged for 24 hours)

TIME (minutes)       BATTERY LEVEL
16                 25% battery drained
10
10
30(*)       WiFi was kept \"OFF\" during this duration
44
35
39                 75% battery drained
25                 Battery was very low and the unit shut-off automatically

The unit shut-off automatically after a total of 209 minutes, roughly three and a half hours.

I thought that the battery should last longer than that! SL5600 seems to have a longer battery life although the manual says that the power consumption is 3.4 Watts, while 6000L is supposed to draw only 2.6 Watts. Agreed that SL5600 has a 1700mAh battery as against 6000L, which has only a 1500 mAh battery. But still......!!??

While on the subject, a 6000L review indicated that power users can have the option of using \"a supplemental battery equipped expansion jacket...\" Do you guys have any information about this and where it would be available?

Also, is there any external keyboard compatible with 6000L?

Thanks folks. I always enjoy the postings in this group.

Warm regards,
Naanu

I\'m unaware of setting up the port. And there are no firewalls on the xp pc. As a matter of fact, I\'ve another linux pc (debian) which is connected to xp via crossovercable. And when i run vnc client from debian, I can see the xp machine.

Thanks for the help

I\'m a newbie and need some help installing vnc client on zaurus.
I have the original rom supplied by sharp. The vnc server runs fine on my zaurus and I could see my Zaurus on my xp desktop. However, when I run keypebble on my zaurus, it says \"hostname wrong\". The keypebble I installed was opie-keypebble-sharprom 1.0.0 sharprom.ip

I would appreciate any help

Thank you

Security and Networking / ip address in zaurus
« on: March 27, 2004, 01:28:39 pm »
I\'m using the ad-hoc connection between sl5600 and xp. Internet works fine. Xp\'s ip address is 192.168.0.1 and i\'ve  set sl5600s ip address to  \"get ip automatically\"

If I\'m forcing some ip address like 192.168.0.5 to zaurus, it does not work. Now i\'m not able to recognize what ip address the zaurus has.

Thanks for help.

General Discussion / Some questions from newbie
« on: March 21, 2004, 02:27:57 pm »
I recently purchased Sl5600 and i like it  a lot. However i\'ve some questions.

1) Rightnow i don\'t have wireless network, but i\'m planning to set up a wireless communication with xp and 5600. Is adhoc the right mode to set up the connection(i\'ve only dial up internet connection)? I\'m trying to purchase a netgear ma701.Any suggestions.

2) Sometimes, when I read a document file from 5600, it says the memory is not available and the some texts are not displayed.

3) I\'ve a 250 chip which I heard that there are some bugs in it. Can a newbie fix those bugs. What knowledge is required to do that? I\'ve been mandrake and debian for quite some time.

Thanks a lot for all helpful people.
