I've SL6000 with sharp rom and I want to install some open zaurus applications. I presume, it can be done by ipkg-new.  Where can I download ipkg-new for sharp rom (default with sl6000) and how to use it?

Thanks

General Discussion / how to find jar file name in .jar applications?
« on: August 04, 2004, 11:26:14 am »
Many thanks for the reply.I found the Main class name, but running into one other problem.

I have sl6000 with sharp rom and I presume it has jeode in it. And when I tried the command evm -cp, it said that it could not create jvm. I then installed jeode 1.10.7 and when I type evm it says

could not open translation file /home/QtPalntop/i18n/en/libs1.qmid

Security and Networking / Network range in SL6000
« on: July 21, 2004, 10:28:53 am »
I'm using Sl6000 to communicate with windows XP PC which has DWL520 adapter(Dlink wireless PCI adapter) trhough ad-hoc mode, but the range is very less.

Earlier I had SL5600 with ambicom wifi cf card which gave me a very good range, but now with SL6000, the range is only a few feet. Since I have a dial-up internet connection, I beleive its not a good idea to get an access point.

Is there any way to extend the wireless range?  And if I get an access point with broadband router (Now that the price is cheaper and availble widely), is there any way to share the internet connection to the zaurus wirelessly?

Thanks for your help.

General Discussion / Touchscreen suddenly stopped working?!
« on: July 21, 2004, 10:13:27 am »
I had the same problem in sl6000L. I tried uninstalling softwares one by one to see which created the problem and by doing so, I found that the vnc server (i don't remember the version), was giving me the headache. So my suggestion is try to uninstall the sofware one by one with the help of keyboard. Eventually, the touch screen should work. Please also refer to

6000 - Tosa / Zaurus Touch-Screen Problem
« on: May 11, 2004, 07:37:37 pm »
My SL6000L\'s touch-screen suddenly stopped working. After unsuccessfully trying out all the procedures mentioned in page 84-88 of the user\'s manual, I finally had to do a disk format. The touch-screen started working, but I lost my precious font resolution. In other words, the smoothness of the font was lost and I can now see serrations in the fonts.

If anyone had been through a similar kind of problem, I would appreciate your help and inputs.

I contacted SHARP service people and as usual they were ignorant (they stink), arrogant and stupid. Yes! these guys are stupids in my experience. They didn\'t seem to have any product knowledge and were trying hard to blame me.

May I suggest that those of us facing shabby treatment from SHARP should file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org)? That way, if enough people file complaints, SHARP service people might be forced to be polite and helpful. Afterall, we all spent $700 on this machine and wouldn\'t we want some kind of service from SHARP for this investment at least during the warranty period?

Angry and sad,
Naanu

6000 - Tosa / How to connect USB Flash Drive to Zaurus
« on: May 01, 2004, 07:14:40 pm »
I would be thankful if someone could help me on how to connect USB Flash Drive to Zaurus SL6000.

What type of cable/connector is needed and where could I get it?

Are there any special drivers needed or can Zaurus automatically recognize USB flash drive just like it recognized SD Card?

That way, I could transfer files by copying them to the USB Flash drive and then copying them to my harddrive at work. BTW, I use the Zaurus cradle at home and thought that USB flash drive would be a good way to port data.

Thanks.
