I just noticed this sale on EBay...

Granted you'd probably want to put in an offer instead of clicking Buy-It-Now (I mean $499 seems a tad steep, IMHO).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sharp-Zaurus-SL-C1...p-/270758288793

And personally, I ask for an actual picture of the item vs. the stock one being shown (they are listed as used after all).

(Disclaimer: I have no association with the seller... Always do your homework and check a every seller's feedback before buying purchasing anything.)

EDIT: Oops, I should have posted this in "Deals and Great Z Buys" forum... sorry about that.

Hey, we're up to 8 semi-"regulars" for the forum, so that ain't too bad...

Or should that be "irregulars"?  j/k

Thanks for the info.  Yeah, if they work for the 5500, then they should probably work fine for the clamshells.

I am gonna try to re-flash my wayward wifi card (DLink 650) and if it doesn't come back I will definitely get one of these.

Thanks again.

General Discussion / Want To Use My Sl-c1000, Any Ideas?
« on: August 10, 2011, 01:13:15 pm »
I guess the real question is, what would *you* like to use it for?

I always found my C860 to be great for music and movies (and I think movies for the C1000) would be easier to make, there's a very good post about using handbrake to encode easily for it.
https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showto...mp;hl=handbrake

I think Android would be tough, even if there is a distro for that since I would imagine it would be too slow  (but that is just a guess).  Not sure what the state of Ångström  is, but OZ development appears to have stopped a while ago:
http://www.openzaurus.org/wordpress/2007/0...-live-angstrom/

Obviously, things that require a keyboard would be a great fit for the Zaurus as well, or something where you want to use USB devices  (since the C1000 and all after that, have USB host)

And of course, there is always....Games: https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showto...amp;hl=nintendo

What size card did you try?

(From what I could gather from the original link to the ipk, it looks like this driver supports upto 32GB cards!  That is really amazing.)

General Discussion / When A Wifi Card Goes Bad?
« on: August 07, 2011, 11:34:55 am »
I am using a DLink WIFI card and it always worked great.

Lately I started using my Z again and when I put the card in it is recognized but it never connects, it just says "Network offline".

Sometimes I eject and re-insert the card and I get card unsupported (but ussually it recognizes it the first time,  this only happen of Eject/reinsert.

Oddly, on my C3200 it shows some activity in the WIFI monitor app, but while it shows the MAC address of the card for a while, the Mac Address will then suddenly disappear but the activity remains (signal strength/quality strong, but very little IO since it doesn't connect).

Anyway, I am wondering if this indicates that the CF card is dying/dead or if there is some other tests I should try before giving up the ghost on this one?

I visit the forum almost every day to have a quick look for what's new.

Instead of being annoyed at the lack of action, why don't you do something about it yourself ? You're complaining that people visit but don't post and you're guilty of it!

"It's not what your country can do for you..."

No, I wasn't complaining, I was just confused how there could be 20 people online nearly every time I logon, but no new messages.  Even right now there are over 20 people online (though 90% are guests at this late hour in the USA).

And actually posting the title the way I did was somewhat of an at attempt to remedy that a little bit (ie: doing something about it)....hey at least there is a post this month ;-)

Seriously, sorry if I sounded like I was complaining, I simply wanted to stir the pot a little bit and see if anyone was around.

Thanks everyone for the posts... and hey, if your a old time user or a passerby lurking, take a second to register (or recover your password) and say hello...

It's always good to chat with past, present, future users of the sharps, archos, and other short-date vintage stuff.   And I use the term vintage very loosely, as I believe the Zauruses(Zaurii) and Archoses (Archosi?) are busily at work behind the scenes doing all the 3D special effects for the Transformer 5 movie...I mean that is just how far ahead of their time they are...

I think it was it Neo that said "The Zaurii dish 'em out and the Archosi play them back, dude."

You know, in that scene right before they started fighting in the telephone booth as it flew through time...  'Cause Morpheus hated to be called "Dude".

Okay,

So today board statistics say: "19 guests, 11 members, 1 anonymous members "

Yesterday (and every time I peak in) was about the same, but there are pretty much no new posts beyond the occasional one every month or so.

So I don't get it... I mean if there are more or less about 20 people on the board on a given day, and even half are guests, how come so few posts?

I realize that this is an older device and there are often about 50% guests browsing, but I have seen more activity on really vintage sites (like Tandy, Amiga, etc).

Anyone got an idea what's up?

Also, if you're here and reading this, post a reply just as a shout-out... at least passerbys will feel posting is worthwhile (since there is an audience).

Just my 2 cents.

And yeah, I been away a long time as well, not blaming people for that, just lost as to why there seem to be users but no posts or conversations.

General Discussion / Sharp Is01: The Zaurus Is Back, Sort Of...
« on: August 01, 2011, 09:30:05 pm »
Did anyone get the Sharp IS01 and try it out first hand?

Just curious what the hands on impressions were.

UPDATE: oops, just realized this thread is over a year old... but then again, still a valid question I guess....  hopefully the IS01 was upgradable from snapdragon to latest.

Cxx0 Hardware / Can C860 Support A 16gb Cf Card?
« on: September 29, 2008, 02:11:08 am »
Hello all,

Can C860 support a 16GB CF Card?

I want to buy one, but not sure if it will be too large...so I don';t want to get stuck with a card I cannot use.

Also if it is supported...is it supported implicitly or would I need a special driver? (and if so where would I find it?)

Thanks in advance for the help.
