I know you're asking about pdaxrom, but I've been using an Angstrom x11 image with minimo as the browser, it handles my wireless webpage plus Yahoo mail and other sites that I had problems with on Firefox/pdaxrom.

Best part is it is much faster than firefox.

my 2 cents

Good luck,

Jerry

I just upgraded to new image and found the same thing. Filed bug report:

Zaurus - pdaXrom / How To Use Usb Cable To Connect Z To Pc In R198 ?
« on: April 17, 2007, 12:14:24 am »

Hi,

Thanks to dev team.

I am using r198 now.

but I found there was no USB Config tool in this system, and when I plugged in the USB Cable and connected it to my Windows PC, my windows system told me it found a new device called "RNDIS/Linux USB Ethernet Gadget".

Where can I found windows driver? (I found a driver "linux.inf" , but it didn't work ...)
and How To setup usbnet?

Thanks...

BTW, when I pull out the USB Cable from my Z , system got an exception, and if I type any other command , the system will hang up ...

I don't think it's possible to use the USB network connection with Windows yet, the old kernel 2.4 used a different mechanism to connect. The 2.6 kernel's USB gadget hasn't been made to work with Windows, there is an INF file to try and install but last time I checked it doesn't work. If you search the board especially the  OZ ROMs, you'll find lots of info, they been using the 2.6 kernel for quite a while now. Setting it up to work in linux is not too hard, you'll find info on that too in the OZ Common section.

Jerry

Yes, I saved the profile. And am able to choose the profile once I open Network settings.
Those commands just give a Device not found message.   Just discovered that my sd card is not recognized and any cf card I insert is not available.
This is an Ambicom WL1100C 2.2 according to the little taskbar utility.

Giving up for now.  If this is an improvement,  I'm glad I didn't try out the earlier versions!
I'm almost ready to flash back to my tremendously modified but great-working beta 3 or better yet my old Cacko ROM.

Just wait a sec, try these commands from rxvt :

Code: [Select]
# ifconfig wlan0 down
# iwconfig wlan0 essid wifi01 mode managed
# ifconfig wlan0 up
# dhcpcd wlan0
# ifconfig wlan0

first do "ifconfig" so you know the name of your device ("wlan0" or "eth0")
So if it is eth0, replace "wlan0" with "eth0"
Also, these lines are to connect to a managed network, router named "wifi01" and with dhcp.

Questions?  Just ask.
Chero.

I too have an Ambicom card. The network scripts are a bit wonky. I found that it's looking for the conf file to be named the same as the interface. So, if your device is wlan0 as mine is, try naming your profile wlan0. Alternately, try
Code: [Select]
mv /etc/sysconfig/netconfig/whatever-profile-was.conf /etc/sysconfig/netconfig/wlan0.conf

When I tried to download the zgcc image from ibiblio. I get a forbidden error. Anybody else experiencing this?

Try right-mouse click and "Save As". Worked for me.

What browser/OS are you using? When I try that I just get an HTML page (forbidden).
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=159022\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Linux, Firefox, but you're right, it's not working. The file I downloaded is only 1K in size, but I'm not getting the Forbidden message. Evidently, the permissions aren't set correctly.

Thanks, I appreciate all of your efforts. Such pain to have to replace all of that stuff!  I'll use the public release for now, but I like geek status of rolling my own.

Will you be putting up the source too @ http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distri...ons/pdaxrom/src ?

I've got my build environment all ready and want to try it out.

Thanks,
Jerry

It may not be an automatic process sounds like the distro owners need to request the directory be recreated:

From the readme file on their server:
Code: [Select]
We lost nearly 150 distributions when the array storing
them died on the evening of April 9th.  If you own a
  distribution on ibiblio.org, please visit
http://www.ibiblio.org/help to request that your directory
be recreated.  If you have uploaded ISOs to be filed
by our Linux keeper, please do so again.  Sorry.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Problem With R189, Boot Failure

I don't really use the vmware...

Just use chroot and do some minor tweak..

You need to extract the base files from the ISO file to chroot.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=158566\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Yes, a more elegant solution than running vmware. I'll have to try that. I usually solve problems with the most complicated solution I can

However, it is nice to find a GPL vm solution. I'm going to create a WinBlow$ vm with it. I may be able to finally lose the WinBlow$ partition on my PC. I rarely use it now as it is.

Cheers,

Jerry

Interesting, I've got the pdaXrom iso running as a virtual machine with VirtualBox. Easy install works pretty well so far. Check it out http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

While I wait for the hardware to be replaced, I'm curious if you did your build using the pdaXrom-builder Live cd or on your own linux box?

I tried building an earlier version but it didn't like having gcc-4.1 on the host. I know sashz at one time had a vm version, so I was hoping either for a build system that uses a more current complier or a vm version so I don't have to boot out of my normal linux install to build the pdaXrom image.

Cheers,
Jerry
