Windows Issues / Sync problems with TCP/IP
« on: October 07, 2003, 03:22:36 pm »
Well I finally did it! It was a combination of several techniques in several documents.  I really couldn\'t tell what the magic bullet was except that it had something to do with making sure you have the right version of intellisync or qtopia desktop installed.

i was even able to nat so that i could browse the web (this was done using network connection sharing in win2k).

Taim,
Thanks...I\'ll definiately look into the old driver and then install the new.  In terms of error messages, on the PC side there are none...probably simply because the PC is waiting for an event that isn\'t happening...that little connection icon in the bottom right of the qtopia desktop stays red.

this is with both linux and windows.  if i start qtopia in linux with a console, there is a message something like \"attempting to connect with device...PPP...something\"    i\'m not in front of the compter now, so i\'ll post the exact message later.

i never thought of trying dmesg on the Z!  that could prove useful.  It\'s another direction to travel, anyway!

I should be getting my 802.11b access point some time this or next week, but i\'d still like to be able to communicate via the cradle so i can use it here at work.

more and more i begin to get the distinct feeling that PPP is necessary for syncing using the USB cradle.

yesterday i got a bit further...found out that i could transfer files from a laptop, so decided to get the OZ rom and flashed it figuring that OZ might have better support for the cradle.  no...not much...although i did get NAT working through the cradle!

i can see i\'m getting closer...i\'ll post if PPP does actually work...and maybe compile a howto using all the docs i\'ve found.  there is no documentation that explicitly states PPP is necessary to communicate with the sync software.

offroadgeek,
Thanks for your replies...at least i feel someone is listening
I was wondering though, I consider myself somewhat of an advanced newbie  and i\'ve followed all directions and howto\'s...still nothing seems to work.  i\'ve made it to the point in both linux and windows where i can ping the device, but the qtopia desktop does not recognize the connection.  both telnet and ftp refuse connection as well.  if i had a terminal on the Z i\'d be able to see if it could ping the desktop, but how to get terminal to the Z?

Is it possible that there is only 1-way communication happening? maybe something wrong with the cradle? (i don\'t want to believe something is wrong with the Z).
/me re-reads \"Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance\"

Thanks in advance,
Russell

Wifi will become an option soon...buying the appropriate hardware...but i don\'t want to sync with a laptop...i want to sync with a desktop...will it work through an Access Point?  Also, it seems silly that syncing using the cradle would be such a difficult task...

every time i ask the question \"how can i install applications to the Z\", i get the answer \"buy...\" so it seems the Z is not a complete solution.  I must buy wifi, 32MB CF card, or some other peripheral in order to do with the Z what comes naturally on another PDA.

I\'m having a very similar problem...also with Win2k and Intellisync...

Just got the SL-5500, can\'t do anything

EDIT
I DID follow the faq btw...still no good.  Is getting sync over wireless easier than over USB?  This is driving me crazy because i was supposedly replacing my visor with this unit...the visor was easier.

anyway...thanks for listening
