I think the N5 is a very good alternative to Zaurus/Netwalker and a good response to Psion Series 5 MX owners (exact same size, but 0.8 inch smaller screen).

Yes, there is also the UMID BZ who can be another alternative with his current standard jacks for earphone and normal USB (but currently the speed is lower then the N5, no 3G and the keyboard doesn't have a right [shift] key).

For the availability, I asked a colleague in Korea to ask about the release date ... and the answer is for July 2010 !
Maybe  I must look for a UMID BZ ...

N.B. : The N5 does not have a multitouch screen

First of all, thanks to Cortez for all the job done on the Zubuntu.

I tried installing the zImage 2.6.30 on a SL-C3000, but the size seems to be too big for it's flash memory.
Could you reduce the size of this zImage to fit in a SL-C3000 ?

Thank you pelrun for you experience.

I tried with and without the USB cable plugged to launch ifup usb0 without success (I launched a reboot after each operation to be sure that the system is in the same state)

Thank you for your help danr, but it doesn't work too.

In dmesg I get the following log after an ifup usb0 with the configuration given :

ether gadget: using random self ethernet address

The USB cable is connected to a Windows XP Workstation.
When we plug or unplug the USB cable nothing is detected on the workstation USB devices !

That's how it works normally, at any rate (under Angstrom/Debian, as well as other distros not on the Z).

Unfortunately nothing happens when doing the modprobe and ifconfig :

• In dmesg nothing is logged
• ifconfig gives the error : usb0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
  SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
  usb0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
• lsusb list only the following : Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001
• When I connect or disconnect the USB cable nothing is logged in dmesg (if I put a mouse or an USB flash dmesg give me logs and the different device are recognized)

If I do a modprobe g_ether, I have the following with dmesg :

ether gadget: using random self ethernet address
ether gadget: using random host ethernet address
usb0: Ethernet Gadget, version: May Day 2005
usb0: using pxa27x_udc, OUT ep1out-bulk IN ep2in-bulk STATUS ep5in-int

and lsusb gives the same result.

If I disconnect the USB cable, dmesg logs nothing.
If I reconnect the USB cable, dmesg logs :

pxa2xx-udc pxa2xx-udc: USB reset

Any idea ?

It's very bizarre that the package hostap-utils_0.4.7-1_arm.deb didn't contains /usr/sbin/prism2_srec !

Yes, it works !

Find my configuration below :

- Install the Hostap utills
- Copy pm010102.hex and rf010804.hex into /lib/firmware
- Add the following in your /etc/network/interfaces :

allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
   pre-up modprobe hostap
   pre-up prism2_srec -gs wlan0 /lib/firmware/pm010102.hex
   pre-up prism2_srec -gp wlan0 /lib/firmware/pm010102.hex
   pre-up iwpriv wlan0 reset 1
   pre-up prism2_srec -rp wlan0 /lib/firmware/rf010804.hex
   pre-up wpa_supplicant -B -Dwext -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

- Configure your /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf . An example follows for a WPA2 with Pre-shared key connection :

network={
   ssid="YOURWIFISID"
   key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
   proto=WPA2
   group=CCMP
   pairwise=CCMP
psk=your-hexadecimal-password
}

To start the wifi connection :

ifup wlan0

To stop the wifi connection :

ifdown wlan0
killall wpa_supplicant

I hope I forget nothing.

Plug your sd card on your OSX computer, than look at the mounted device name : df

Than do a : cd /mountedSD
and followed by an untar : tar -xzvf /pathToThemodules
