Accessories / WIFI CF Card Review?
« on: December 12, 2003, 07:32:56 am »
Heya all,

Does anyone know of a review of CF WIFI (Compact Flash Wireless Network cards) reviews specifically for Linux / Zaurus devices?

I\'m in the market for a good low-profile but good range CF WIFI card for my C760 and I\'d like to see a comparison review of all cards that will work for the Zaurus to determine which one\'s worthy of my pennies

Zaurus - pdaXrom / SR: Overclocking tool
« on: December 11, 2003, 07:30:26 am »
Another software request for the X11 ROM:

Overclocking tool:

I know it\'s been done but I can\'t read or understand this website (half of it I can if I run through a japanese - english translator but the bottom half is still garbled), it\'d be great to have this tool on board the next ROM: http://www.t12.jp/~ryuta/misclab/zaurus/chcclk.html

Zaurus - pdaXrom / SR: VNC Server needed for Zaurus X11 ROM
« on: December 10, 2003, 07:48:39 pm »
Another idea I just had is the SR: tag, Software Request (it saves on a long thread title)..

Okay here\'s the software I\'d love, a VNC server running on my X11 ROM C760 so I don\'t have to aim well with the stylus (my hands shake a little)..

I\'m not sure if VNC clients for Qtopia ROM work for the X11 ROM, has someone tried this?

If they don\'t work could we have some nice caring person who likes us port VNC to the X11 ROM and IPK it in exchange for mucho pats on the back?

*Damn why isn\'t there a winks-seductively-smiley*

Software / BlueZ/zaurus.com contents needed!
« on: December 08, 2003, 07:36:34 pm »
Heya all, as Zaurus.com is down (I\'ve noticed it in a post about spencer) I can\'t get the following file which I need..

I need the file bluez-zaurus_2.3-2.4.18b_arm.ipk from http://community.zaurus.com/projects/bluez so I can install my Bluetooth card drivers again after I flashed to Cacko\'s X11 ROM.

The original download link was http://community.zaurus.com/download.php/4...2.4.18b_arm.ipk

If someone has it stored on their HD they can email it to me and I\'ll host it on my site if more than one person needs it, and upload it to the ZUG files area.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Sash I have a suggestion..
« on: December 08, 2003, 03:17:38 pm »
I hope Sash is a regular to this forum now, it\'s great to see a ROM developer visit a forum for his ROM..

Here is my idea:

At the moment we have to press CTRL+3 to switch to right mouse button, CTRL+2 for middle and CTRL+1 for left. This was a good idea but is too difficult to do with any speed.

My suggestion is this:

[img]http://foxdie.timduru.org/zaurus/x11_keys.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]

As an alternative to the current way, I suggest there should be a second way too:

Touching the screen should only set the cursor position, not simulate a mouse click, that would be done by pressing key 3 for a left click, key 4 for a right click and both 3+4 for middle click. I have seen an option when installing linux distro\'s like mandrake for a 2 button mouse to be able to simulate the middle button by pressing both left and right together. It should be easy to do this.

Any suggestions / comments?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / REC - MPLAYER
« on: December 07, 2003, 05:42:35 pm »
As far as I can remember, someone was saying how when he tried to start MPLAYER in the Sash X11 ROM it would give the error that libvorbisidec.so was missing and either segfault or just close itself.

He further went on to reply that he fixed this by removing that version of MPLAYER and installing an older version for the 5x00 series OZ rom from the OZ feed.

However, in light of this I went to fix it myself and found the missing files and am now hosting them on my website, you should be able to just extract them into the /home/root/usr/lib/ folder and it\'ll work from there on. The file is here: http://foxdie.timduru.org/zaurus/libvorbisidec.tar.gz

Please bear in mind that this is my FIRST time making a tarball / gzipped file so if there\'s problems please tell me.

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Data recovery suggestion.
« on: December 07, 2003, 05:34:20 pm »
As offroadgeek has pointed out, the database is lost and is irrecoverable. I say lets not dwindle on this and try to put back the data that was there as best we can from memory.

I suggest that for all posts made in the past 4 days that people can remember they put back into the original post and put in the letters \"REC\" in the subject line to indicate it\'s a recall of the post that was once there.

For example in the X11 ROM forum there was a post about MPLAYER. I will recreate this post with the subject: REC - MPLAYER and try to fill in as much as I can remember from the posts in that thread.

Are you with me?

Software / IPK Conversion Request.
« on: November 25, 2003, 06:39:37 am »
Heya all. I\'m not sure what the (unwritten or written) rules are for making such a request but I desire this applet to be converted to regular sharp rom format:

http://ipkgfind.handhelds.org/details.phtm...luetoothmanager

[img]http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/screenshots/00198_0.png\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]

The applet is a Bluetooth Manager written for OpenZaurus, I do a stuff with bluetooth and could make use of such a good applet for the Sharp ROM if anyone knows how to convert it to Sharp ROM, or at least Sharp ROM with libopie installed (which I have. I tried to install the OZ BM ipk to my Z but it wasn\'t recognised by the package manager).

Thanks

Software / Oops...

I installed the launcher-batteryapplet from this website on my default rom C760 not realising it wasn\'t for my Z: http://community.zaurus.com/projects/qtopiax/

I uninstalled it but the problem remains: I\'ve lost my default battery applet. I can\'t see how much charge my Z has left in it

Anyone know how to get the default battery indicator back? I\'m pretty sure it should be possible.

Accessories / Armadillo BlueCF card installation help needed
« on: November 19, 2003, 05:49:17 am »
Heya all

I just bought an Armadillo BlueCF CompactFlash card, it\'s covered by the Anycom Bluetooth driver, the instructions are at http://www.holtmann.org/linux/bluetooth/bluecard.html

I just want to know how do I install this on my Zaurus? I\'m not sure of the procedure to install drivers on a Linux PDA (a desktop is fine, but a PDA, well I don\'t want to risk bricking it hehe).

Anyone here got the Armadillo Card working with the Z? I know it\'s possible

Accessories / Fast SD access?
« on: November 14, 2003, 07:00:26 pm »
Heya one and all, I\'m thinking of buying something like this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...&category=18871 for my C760

I know it\'s a SanDisk card and they apparently have a reputation for failing (another post has these details) but can the Z take advantage of what the auction quotes as \"8 times the speed of Regular SanDisk!!!!\"?

Can the Z\'s SD port run at 9MB/sec or so is quoted?

Also is there any steps I can take to make sure my SD card doesn\'t fail if I buy one like a SanDisk one for my C760?

Cxx0 General discussions / Pre-purchase questions about the C760
« on: November 08, 2003, 04:15:01 pm »
Hello one and all, I am thinking of jumping aboard the Z wagon, but I have a few questions to help me make up my mind, those will be towards the end of this post.

I\'ll start by introducing myself, I\'m an IT technician from the UK and up to now I have had only a little experience with Linux (after numerous kernel recompiles I got sick of it and reverted to Windows) but enough to get by. While visiting a friend in france I had the opportunity to play with his Zaurus (5xxx series) and was quite smitten by it, but the cost was a little too much to justify something in my eyes is a lustworthy boys toy.

When the C7x0 series came out touting the X-Scale CPU and a great clamshell design I reconsidered my judgement and realised it could be of some real use. I am giving strong thought as to whether to sell my Sony VAIO C1VE and use the money to buy a C760.

The questions I have are as follows:

 I\'ve read various posts on watching movies on the Z, I\'ve noticed that mplayer seems to be the best for watching divx movies like, but what\'s the best it can handle? Would it play a 320x240 25FPS 384kbit divx movie with a 48khz MP3 Stereo sound track perfectly?

 I notice that the C760 doesn\'t support SDIO, is this a hardware limitation or kernel? Basically all I\'m asking here is if there\'s a chance in the future that SDIO support can be added to the C760

 I read in a post that watching movies from a SD card is a bad idea, something about the SD card not being able to transfer the data quickly enough. This question is would an SD card work fine with transferring MP3\'s and other things? Also will the C760 support a 512MB SD card?

 I\'m a big fan of First Person Shooter style games and I read that the C760 has Doom available for it, also Quake (but it apparently runs slowly). Are there any better first person shooters than these games for the C760 that take advantage of the X-Scale CPU?

My hat goes off to the people who answer my questions
