Zaurus - pdaXrom / [solved] Can Not Restore Nand On C-1000
« on: November 01, 2006, 09:00:51 am »
I got the same problem before. For my case, the problem was because I formatted the card using Windows XP. What I did was to format the card using linux with the "mkfs.vfat" command and just like magic, it worked . Until now, I still don't get it. But at least, I don't have the problem anymore. Anyway, I'm not really an expert here, just sharing my experience ^^

Zaurus - pdaXrom / How To Configure Window Decoration?
« on: October 29, 2006, 01:54:27 am »
Since the default configuration uses matchbox and openbox, the themes should be in /usr/share/themes
To change the theme, as far as I know, you have to do it manually by editing rc.xml. That file can be found in /etc/xdg/openbox. Copy everything inside this directory to /home/root/.config/openbox (note that /home/root is your home directory).
Open rc.xml, find the <theme> <name> tag and change the theme name into the one that you want (again, you can find the theme in /usr/share/themes). However, I'm using r121 and not really sure if this works for the other version as well. Good luck

Finally, I flashed my C1000 to r121 and installed xfce4. The main problem with xfce is when I quit the xfce, all of the stuff in the panel are gone (the error is: "unexpectedly removed") and I don't have the logout dialog as well. There were also some messages about segmentation fault in xfce-session. Does it mean that I have to compile xfce using pdaX r121 if I want it to work in r121?

I have the same problem as well, I'm using pdaXrom r121 at the moment. I tried fluxbox, icewm and xfce4.4 beta2. The most problem-free is icewm IMHO

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Trouble With Installing 1.1.0r121 On C-1000

That is the same place where I got my files and I'm using WinRAR to extract the contents to the SD card. Pardon me if I'm asking silly questions. When you tried to install UBoot by pressing C+D, plugging the power cord, as you said, you got two lights on. Did you wait until both light goes off before you release the C+D button? Another thing to check is the compressed files that you downloaded, maybe they're somehow corrupted. Try to download the files again

Thank you for your suggestion, coklat.

I still can not boot emergency system. After having both amber and green light on for about 20 seconds when I put in the sd card with u-boot files, I disconnect the power cable and insert another sd card with pdaXrom files. I hold the 'ok' button and plug in the cable, and this time I get the diagnostic menu!

Perhaps someone can tell me what this (why does the diagnostic menu comes up intead of bootup) means.

Let me back up and cover some basics.... Which files am I suppose use? I have been using the basic pdaxrom 1.1.0r121 from the download section here

I unbzip2 the u-boot file using a window based decompression tool like a winzip. Could this be a problem?

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Trouble With Installing 1.1.0r121 On C-1000

Howdy All,

I followed the instruction written by Sash on his bloghere but I can not boot up the emergency system. I was able to finish the step # 13 on his instruction, but when I insert my sd card with pdaXrom (step 1 for bootup emergency system) and follow on, I do not get the bootup screen. My c-1000 is totally unresponsive.

Here are a couple of questions I have:

Do I need to get 2 sd/cf cards for this installation, one for pdaXrom-1.1.0r121-u-boot-akita-current.zip and new u-boot files, and the other for akita-current.zip? I tried having two different sd cards and also combining all the files onto one sd card. The result is the same: no success.

Right now, I can get into diagnostic menu and erase NAND flash, but that's about it.

Another question I have is that Sash's instruction step #1 for bootup emergency system says I should hold on button while plugging in power cable whereas this instruction #3 (for fresh install) or #6 (upgrade or update) says I should hold ok button when powering up. Which is right?

Thanks for your help.

Today I just flashed my C1000 with r121 and it went really smooth  Please let me know if you still can't install, maybe I can help further. The only problem I have was when I tried to install uboot from SD and then pdaX from CF. It will go to the shell and I have to type the command manually in order to install. In short, try to install both uboot and pdaX from SD  I hope this helps.

Hi,

I'm using pdaX 1.1.0r121. I tried to install fluxbox using the one in the r121 feed. However, so far it doesn't work or at least I don't know how to make it work
I followed the instructions (without installing feh or vdesk) and changed the .xinitrc. I got into the WM without wallpaper and the garbled font. Is there any chance for r121 to use fluxbox? Thanks

I had a simular problem with my C1000 and beta3.  I had to steal a theme and init from my desktop.  I think the default font has problems on some machines.  If you want, I can send you a replacement .fluxbox directory to get started.  Also I had better luck when logged in as a user other then root.

I would like to try it. Please post the file. Thank you:)

I installed XFCE 4.4 beta2. The toolbar/menu icons in applications are missing, replaced by the square with cross mark in it when I tried to change the user interface theme to xfce-dusk. Anyone know how to fix this? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm new to Linux and just flashed my C1000 with pdaXrom

You might want to make sure the hicolor ipk is installed. it can be found in  [a href=\"http://users.telenet.be/zaurususer/ipkgs/experimental/xfce4-4.4-beta2/hicolor_0.0.1_armv5tel.ipk]Chero's ipks[/url]

The xfce-dusk theme works on my 3100 running r121

One of the other fun things about xfce (and all related ipks) is that it REALLY likes living in / instead of another destination.
Code: [Select]
# ipkg -d root install
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply, I tried it and it doesn't work. However, the XFCE works pretty well and I really like it. Losing one theme won't stop me from using it  So... we can actually use XFCE in r121... temptations...  Would you share your experience using XFCE in r121? If it is stable enough, then I really want to try it. I'm using beta3 at the moment.
