General Discussion / Zaurus Users Handbook Framework

I've started the process of creating a "Zaurus Users Handbook" that the community can edit (keep up-to-date) and users can store on their Zaurus.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom For C3000 (based On Beta1/beta3)

I've already installed the ndis5 driver on my XP computer. When I plug in the usb-cable i can ping my zaurus [192.168.129.201]. On the "USB-Settings" I put in the same data as meanie did in his pdaXrom documentation http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/custom-pdaxrom.html
When I start samba I want to access from my XP computer to the zaurus but I couldn't see any released folders. For you to know I haven't done any samba setting on the zaurus.

What settings should I do to see my released folders on the zaurus?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Virtual Screen, Matchbox, Task List

Hi,
- How can I configure the panel to be displayed on every virtual screen?

Now the panel is only displayed on the first virtual screen.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=158349\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

you will probably have to rewrite those apps to do what you want...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=158573\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Even the panel needs to be rewritten?  Isn't there a window option to make the window "sticky"?

I'm running AfterStep on my desktop and I know it supports sticky windows.  I thought this was common for X window managers?  Of course, now that I'm looking, I can't find anything that explicitly lists this when I use xwininfo.  Would this be "Window Gravity State," perhaps?

Unfortunately, what some of our friends here are confusing being so-called 'open-minded' with 'critical-thinking' abilities!!

I can be be as open-minded as the next guy, but I always get my critical thinking turned on and watch the needle on the b#@$sh*& meter dial....
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=158645\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I completely agree.  I don't know enough facts to prove it's a conspiracy, and I'd guess it's a lot easier to prove it's a conspiracy than to actually prove that it isn't.  The 9/11 conspiracy theories contain mostly a lot of coincidences that you can find to support almost anything if you look hard enough.  Most of the rest is facts that I cannot prove or disprove.

Of course, I might just be part of the conspiracy that just wants to sell everyone more wool goods and reap more corporate profits for the real masters (sorry, I can't reveal who they are, as you guys don't have the proper security clearance..)....

Oh boy, think I've revealed to much already....if you don't hear from me again, you'll know what happened....

ii13... Works very well.
Having a "stable" branch with emphasis on useability is very cool

I agree completely.  Thanks, Meanie!

I actually voted for beta3 before I realized that ii13 was broken out into a separate category, so count one more for ii13!

I'm apparently not managing to get all of /home copied though when I go to copy it to the NAND area and it might be in the syntax of my usage of the cp command. Could someone bless me with a plain vanilla example of the appropriate usage here that would maintain ownership rights etc?

I'm trying to copy from /mnt/ide/hdd1/home to /home for example.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=158332\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I don't have a harddrive to worry about, but I'm guessing that you want to use the -a switch on cp, like:
cp -a /mnt/ide/hdd1/home /home

-a will preserve mode, ownership & timestamps, will preserve links without dereferencing them, and will recurse the directory structure.  I believe that it will also pick up all hidden files.

Or maybe the rumor was just strategic to get rid of stock for the
new SL-C4000XL with 3D holographic XGA, toaster interface,
GSM, WiFi and bottle opener...

That would be great news!  Especially the bottle opener!!!  It's so difficult to juggle my Zaurus while opening another beer.  Sharp thinks of everything!

It is 243x231 (first attachment - firefox-large.png)
I cropped it and reduced it to 64x63
Then I tried making the white background transparent, but it ends up looking blotchy.
Is there someone here that can make this into a *.png icon of 64x63 size and make it look as good as the firefox icon that most people have on pdaxrom? (second attachment - firefox.png)
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=158077\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
How does this look?  I don't do much image editing.

Using the card applet monitor to eject the card, it reports "You can now eject the card" or whatever the message is.

However if I dropped to console and umount'ed it, it complains that it is busy.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=158046\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Yeah, I've got a bunch of stuff installed to SD and I've noticed the same thing.  I ended up rebooting and pulling the SD card before the OS started up and remounted it.  I'd guess that the "ok to eject" message is based on a delay, rather than actually checking if the umount was successful.

I didn't know exactly what was still running from the card, but I installed the additional packages for pdaXii13 5.3.3 to SD, so it could be any of those.

BTW, does anyone know why the SD needs to be unmounted prior to running the upgrade scripts for pdaXii13?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Does Dillo Have Word Wrap?
« on: April 04, 2007, 07:14:43 pm »

Is there a setting for Dillo to force pages with all text go into word wrap mode?
I've opened these pages in Firefox, and it word wraps text.
Doesn't Dillo also have this option?
These same pages in Dillo produce a horizontal scrollbar.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=157992\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I'm not aware of a setting for this, and I do find it frustrating when pages are formatted "extra wide" so that I can't easily view them.  But the page is probably deliberately formatted that way and Dillo is only doing what the HTML tells it.  I didn't know that Firefox allowed you to override this.

I can't get my multimeter probes into the battery area so I couldn't tell you anything beyond that.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=157915\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
In the past, I've tested operating voltage, amperage, etc., by using aluminum foil.

If you are checking voltage between two separate contacts, you can:
* cut narrow strips of aluminum foil
* insert a strip between the battery contact and the Zaurus contact
* repeat for the other contact(s)
* run the foil strips to the outside of the battery compartment, ensuring that they will not touch each other
* carefully close the battery cover, such that you do not damage the foil
* I usually use tape to hold the foil in place at this point
* take measurements off the foil

I've also checked amperage this way by using scotch tape as an insulator between two strips of foil stacked together: Foil-Tape-Foil.  I believe what I actually did was Foil-Tape-Foil-Tape, using the second piece of tape to secure and insulate the second piece of foil because the tape was wider than the foil.  Leave an uninsulated spot on the end that you insert between the battery and Zaurus contacts so that you have one piece of foil "extending" the battery contact, and the other piece of foil "extending" the Zaurus contact.  Use your multimeter to complete the circuit and measure the (milli)amps.

I haven't tried this on my Zaurus, but it worked well on my PalmOS PDA.

I installed wellswang version of torsmo and edited pdaxii13.cnf file but torsmo won't start on startx. But will startt with torsmo -w 0x80001c wjich is my roxfiller window. Where can be problem?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=157854\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I thought that was the one that I installed.  I'll give it another shot.  It looks like your configuration is the same as mine (C-1000, pdaxii13 5.3.3), so if it works for you I think it should work for me, too.

Well torsmo_0.18_armv5tel.ipk  didn't work, but I tried torsmo_0.17_armv5tel.ipk and it seems to run ok.

I also have the floating point exception error.  Where did you find the 0.17 version?

I'm curious how much of my system resources will be diverted to this utility.  I still have to try it, though.
