I skimmed. I admit it.
Still it seemt to me thet you maybe should have a minimum of 3 partitions about a gig and a half for /dev/hda1 about 256M for /dev/hda2 (swap) and what ever you want for hda3+
put the tarball onto partition 3
mount /dev/hda1 as something temporary, not /home or anything
cd to wherever you mounted hda1, and untar the tarball
reboot. Hopefully your Z catches the image, It might be useful to have a look at meranies script and manually do what it requires.
I think cp isn't going to work.... but I could easily be mistaken

No can do boss. The first partition (/dev/hda1) approx 6.5g on mine, regardless of what I mount it to is ALWAYS upon a reboot found by the ROM and automatically mounted to /mnt/ide whether I like it or not. I can untar the tarball to this partition till I turn blue in the face and pdaXii13 never see's it on reboot. I can unmount and remount it in another position and on reboot it's right back to /mnt/ide just like before.
You're completely correct about the cp command. It's just not getting me there. It's obviously only copying files that it does NOT already find existing in already existing destination folders. So basically nothing changes hardly for me after copying. I've researched the command onthe web and I can't see a command switch (using cp -a right now) that would correct this.
I'm totally lost. The ONLY idea that currently occurs to me is to dissasemble my 3100, reinstall the original 4gb Microdrive, install pdaxii13 to my satisfaction and then remove the drive and try to use a cf to standard IDE 40pin cable adapter in conjunction with Partition Magic 8.0 to copy and resize the partitions to my 8gb Flash Card and then Reinstall the Flash Card.
Besides being overly complex, my hands shake fairly badly nowadays because of the neurological damage to be trying to mess with those tiny screws, I'm afraid I might brick it.
I'm losing faith here rapidly...and it's no easy task to return to Sharp/Cacko from this point and even if I do I will find myself right back to the same problem of not being able to run my X progs that I started with.
Please...anyone...even seriously wild silly suggestions would be welcomed at this point. I'm just desperate for a solution of SOME kind.
So First Question:
What procedure did YOU all use to copy /home and /etc from the microdrive to the NAND position? The directions seem to imply that everyone has to do it manually after they are told to upon reboot!?
and,
Final Question:
On normal systems (if you have akita working with pdaXii13 this means YOU!!)
What is the default mount point that pdaXii13 rom's automounter put your /dev/hda1 (the interior microdrive) on? Is it /mnt/ide like mine? or perchance is it /hdd1?
Just a hunch I've got here....
