« on: January 25, 2005, 02:56:53 am »
This is amazing, probably due to Sharps exit from US market:

$29 Compatible Batteries (both small and LARGE) for 5x00 and Cx00 !!!

I have personally ised the BL08 and find it works GREAT !!

(I have no affiliation with this seller except as a customer)

If you're buying the battery for the SL-5k machines, don't bother.  Their shipping charges make amazon much, much cheaper.

Good point, but I want to clarify/qualify your point a bit further:

First of all,  Shipping is based on Zip code, so it may be better for some to go with Amazon and worse for others

Second, these guys have tons of other batteries so it is quite concienvable to have a $100+ order, which makes shipping free...assuming you have a laptop, etc as well.

I should also mention that if you are going to buy 5 or 10 of these, you may want to call to see if you can get a bulk discount (sometimes 3 to 5 percent or higher depending on quantity).

I don't disagree that Amazon is probably a better bet for a Sharp-branded (as opposed to compatible) for the BL06 battery,  but with all this site has to offer (and since Sharp is no longer selling in US) you may want to consider buying a few if you think you are going to own the PDA for a few years.  But that just my opinion.

Note: They aren't always the cheapest on everything, so make sure to check ebay and other sites (like amazon) for any other batteries you may decide to buy.

Will a BL08 battery work with a SL-5500, if you leave the battery cover off?

I got some of these shipped to the UK.  Quite a fast service and no problems with customs.

I'm guessing that the BL08 battery would work with an SL-5500 if you cut the lug off it.  It might be perfect if you could get a 5600 battery cover as well.

One question being begged is whether these are "New Old Stock":  remember that LiIons have a shelf life on the order of 3 years.  The fact that l-f-l is offering a 1-year warranty suggests that they're relatively fresh,  but doesn't guarantee it.

The online reviews say the EA-BL06 weighs about an ounce.  Unfortunately,  I don't have a scale to check that with,  but,  if true,  that wuld mean it would cost under $2 to buy a padded envelope and mail it First Class within the U.S.

Group buy,  anyone?

How much did it cost you to have them shipped to the UK? Only the site says a whopping $52.

My research and experience has shown that Lithium Ion batteries have the LONGEST shelf like of any type of battery.  With the average shelf life being 10 + years !

You may be thinking of Alkanines which generally last 2 to 5 years depending on chemistry.

I have personally had a LI-ION battery for a notebook that sat (uncharged and new) for about 6 years and it works like a charm.

Key to best battery life is a full 3 cycle charge/'discharge (on NEW battery, 1st use) to get the chemicals properly mixed.  Next is to condition the battery evey 3 to 6 months in the same manner.  Lastly, is to keep the battery out of the charger when not in use....but for PDA that is rather difficult. ...but doing the first two will help dramatically.

That is correct, large BL08 baattery works great on 5500 with nub cut/filed off (it is just plastic, niothing important in it.  Then you need some good tape to hold it in as well.  Small piece of duct tape does the trick....and if you are wondering the 5500 will charge the bigger battery to full as well.

LiIon should be stored in cool place at 40% charge, apparently.

Dell say not to buy them and store for future use. However this means you have to trust the maker not to drop the product. I would thus only buy one spare battery and take care of it carefully. And consider buying up extras if they're really cheap when product hits EOL - a half good battery is better than no battery.

And there are places which can refurb LiIon batteries.

Hold the phone Batman!  You've got the BL-08 connected to a 5500 just by filing off the nub?  Any shot you can post a pic?  Sorry, but I'm new to the thought =)

Of course I'd happily pick one up if that were the case.  Anyone know where I can get the 5600 back that would cover this battery?

Don't confuse rechargeable Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer technologies with non-rechargeable lithium. Non-rechargeable lithium has the excellent shelf life you mentioned (10+years). The rechargeable versions tend to degrade quickly, losing half or more of their capacity in 2-3 years.  For further reading I recommend looking up Apple's problems with the iPod batteries.
