Perhaps use 'su -' (something like that) to also use the root $path settings, then mkswap will work from anywhere.
Hehe... that helps with a lot of things! It seems as if everyday I learn ... that there is still so much to learn.

Separation of the feed components is a good thing IMO - you shouldn't need to even know anything about this as the various feeds should have been installed automatically in /etc/ipkg/*.conf
Because I feared screwing up my internet connection (very long story) on an iPAQ and my collie... I built a feed on my 340 mb microdrive for this GPE/poodle testing.

Thanks again,

Greg

I installed OZ 3.5.3 (GPE) a few days ago to test it out using a 32/32 configuration on a SL-5500.  I can confirm the autologin of root issue, as well as the in-ability of users to log in if their config was changed.  I can also confirm the control applet did nothing at all, but the only major problem I found was the inability to sync with the PC.  I was able to ping both ways, but that was it, so this morning I decided to try Opie.  Right away it communicated with Qtopia 1.7, so it already has a leg up in my case.  At this time, I don't remember any other issues that I had with GPE, and the jury is still out on Opie.

GPE is free of Trolltech crap, so qtopia won't work. See [a href=\"http://handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/GpeSync]http://handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/GpeSync[/url] on how to get gpe to sync using multisync

Hello,

I have a SL-5500 (and am a newbie) and after hassling with Opie and the package manager not working good I'm trying the GPE image. Trying to install abiword but a few dependencies are needed. I found the other files and put them all on cf card and ready to go but understand it's pkg mgr isn't working 100%  .

GPE's package manager is still mostly unusable for collie (it lacks the ability to install to a non-root location)

If I am just logging in as root how do I select multiple files to install? What are the key(s) to use to do this?

Thanks for the help

I've run into a problem with the 3.5.3 GPE x-terminal-emulator on my 5500.

When I use the root terminal I dont have the ablility to hit function c to send a ctrl-c.

Also if I pop up the onscreen keyboard and do a ctrl-c I get the calendar app!

Oh, and if I use the onscreen keyboard to send a escape the terminal quits!

Anyone else seeing this?

Yes, I saw the Calendar app coming up last time I tried the GPE 3.5.3...

I saw other onscreen keyboard issues as well, but can't remember the details.

Is this keylaunch intercepting the keypress?

What happens if you kill keylaunch?

Hey Guys,
i am testing the image now. It is now much more mature than the last time I tried. I have configured autologin as root, but I am always getting the error:
Code: [Select]
unable to open database: /root/.gpe/categoriesAnyone a hint?
I get this error for example, when I try to start the calendar. Calendar does not start. Just the contacts can be launched, while I get that error there too. I did an ipkg update and ipkg upgrade, which upgraded from the upgrade feed. The upgrade went on smooth.
Cheers,
Sam

If the file it's complaining about does exist, delete it and it will be re-generated - I think there was a format change between the upgrades.

Hi Lardman,
thanks for the hint. Well there is no file there. But there is also no .gpe directory there too. I created a directory /root/.gpe
The error does not apear anymore. It seems to create the category file now. I can also now launch all the gpe-pim apps
Cheers,

Please don't run GPE as root, it has enough setuid helpers to run as a normal user. Even better, it is designed to run as a normal user.

Is there anyway to setup autologin for normal user? I logged inas normal user and then configured autologin. But now it logs automatically into root account.
Thx,
Sam

Killing keylaunch does not seem to make a difference with my shell problem.

Escape still closes the shell and ctrl-c still brings up the Calendar app.

I have just installed the OZ/GPE rom but I cannot get my socket wireless card to work.
It seems that the spectrum_cs driver is missing from the rom.
Also, I couldn't find it in the feeds.
My zaurus is the c860.

Did anyone else got this to work? Did the driver name change?
I am surprise that no one else wouldn't have noticed since this card is pretty common.

I forgot to mention that the card is working fine.
I just had it working with the 3.5.3 OZ/OPIE without trouble.
But, I wanted to try GPE. It looks pretty nice so far but not being able to get wireless to work is a major problem.

Thanks
Joao
