Cacko Rom 1.23 For C1000 Progress
« Reply #120 on: October 29, 2005, 09:57:59 am »
uh oh, now this means I have very little excuse for not getting a 3100....

My 760 is becoming unreliable (as predicted) again and the lack of a cacko rom was the main reason to hold out from getting the 3100.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

Hehe. Don't worry, I'm not bitching, I just had to vent somewhere and I gathered it'd be better to do it here than to beat the wife and kids (again).
=P
But at least now we know the exact release date. =)

Has the work of porting the upcoming Cacko to C3000 started?
I wonder how long c3000 owners will have to wait.

I should have waited for C3100 instead of rushing with c3000 purchase
SL-C3100 (from PriceJapan.com): modified Sharp Rom (couldn't make Japanese input work in Cacko Rom)

Every day that goes by and Cacko is not released the overwhelming likelyhood is that Maslovsky is hard at work making it better     So when it does come out it will be all it's cracked (cacked ?) up to be, and will have as many bugs as possible already worked out.  I don't think the Mas-man is eager for his Cacko project to have the credibility of a certain microsoft product line that is famous for being delayed and still ending up released full of bugs...

very wise words. If it arrives late but perfect, people will forget and forgive the lateness quite quickly. If it arrives early or ontime or late but with bugs, people will remember the bugs for a long time.

Rest in the knowledge that Mas is pretty much a perfectionist, and it's his diligence that makes owning a Zaurus special.

Ha!  I still think there will be a hotfix farther down the road.

Almost certainly, but there will probably be less than there would be if the project was rushed.  I mean nothings PERFECT (your meaning is taken though).  But we can likely expect the same attention to detail in the hotfixes as has been put into the rom itself.

Yet again I can us MS as an example.  It drove our IT department absolutely NUTS for a few months when that old NT 4.0 vulnerability Hotfix was causing random BSODs.  I'd rather not know that that sort of thing is going on in my pants pocket as well (on a stowed Zaurus I mean...  )

Speaking of the C3100 (which I have) is there a Cacko ROM for this model or will the C1000 one work with it too?

Andy has contacted me some time ago and I gave him the ROM sources to port to C3000. Hopefully he will have enough of time to port the final version to C3000 after it's relesead.

The ROM is being released, meaning that the files are currently being uploaded to the ZUG server. This takes forever...

Oh yes, A Cacko Lite like the 1.22 Lite would be highly appreciated.

Though on a C1000 / C31000 having enough space obviates the desperate need for a Lite version, still there's no harm having as small a footprint intially and then building up apps as necessary.

Thanks for the great work...
