They may come back, but what good is that going to do? Will anybody trust them again?

Claims of technical difficulties or \"cheaper host\" are bogus, this is Sharp we\'re talking about, not a solo shop running in a garage somewhere.

I doubt many developers will ever trust them again, or use their space to store stuff, only to have them hijack it again, with no advance warning.

Maybe we should start using sourceforge or any stable open source hosting facility?

I actually stopped thrusting Sharp for quite some time. The first downtime of the devnet website. Now this.

They have a chance to redeem themselves. Release the SL-6000 in Europe, either in Japanese or English. In the latter case, Omiko will have to help me a tad to get a English OS installed on it, but she\'s not bad at computers neither.

Do you think it would be reasonable to contact all the authors which hosted projects on devnet and offer them to develop their qtopia/opie stuff as part of the handhelds.org (opie) cvs - handhelds.org can also provide mailing lists etc.? I know some authors had sentiments against the Opie team, but this once again may be a chance to have a knowledge transfer and have synergie effects by hosting on the same server / cvs repository.
Cheers,

I think contacting most of the authors would be difficult, unless you know their other emails, since most of them used their @users.community.zaurus.com  on their project pages.

But if you have their emails, I can\'t see why not. They\'ll either accept the invitation, or go elsewhere.

I still would LOVE to have a true mirror of the site... there were some great instructions on that site that I\'ve wanted to return to many times.  I really hope, but doubt, that Sharp will make that info available to offroadgeek at some point.  As was said earlier, the way it happened was like the burning of the great libraries of old!  Damn Goths!

I happened across this mirror of docs.zaurus.com recently.  I don\'t know if it has everything you\'re looking for.

  <http://www.ossh.com/zaurus/mirrors/docs.zaurus.com/ipkg_howto.shtml>

The index page appears to be missing but the entire index is on the left.

I just wget\'ed a copy of it in case it ever disappears.

100% of this content (the docs how-tos) were copied (manually by me) to the ZUG How-Tos wiki area here (for the ZUG documentation contest last year).  I\'ve even grabbed all the files the links point to and host those files (with updated links) on our server.

The nice thing about this being in the ZUG How-To area is that anyone who is registered with our site can update and modify them!  Much better than a static html page.

Thanks offroadgeek for doing this for everyone!

It\'s a great resource for all.

However, wish I could get some more of last years devnet posts. Especially some of the thread in the development section. There was some really helpful info there.... :?

Think there\'s anyway or a contact at Sharp to get access to some of the last years posts??

I have a contact at Sharp, and he emailed me once about getting access to the data, and I\'ve emailed him several times... but he hasn\'t yet gotten back to me

I\'m going to try to call him at his office

That\'s good to know.  I didn\'t realize you had the whole thing (probably because its reformatted).

That\'s great, and it\'s excellent that ORG is all over it, but too bad those ppl at Sharp are totally unconcerned about the fact that most of the posts in the main forums are now lost, as well as the ability to search the forums.  I don\'t see any gain in them not sharing that information, as none of it was proprietary and holding it - as it ages and becomes less relevant - is of no value to them.

re: dev board search. It might be hopeless to get sharp to give out the old database (possibly for fear of privacy issues, since the old database will contain registrants emails, passwords, and private messages).

So it might be worth it to just install a search script on the mirror directory to search it as flat files. This will at least help searching for old posts.

Another alternative (might be very time consuming though) is to write a php import script, to suck in the old posts as ZUG posts. Too much work, I think, so a simple search script looks attractive, something like phpDig, etc.
