You are right, the tosa stuff is there.  But right now its so slow to download (.3k).  Thanks for all the great work OZ guys!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=100100\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I downloaded it just now, only opie image, kernel and updater script. Download speed was strange, few bytes/second and then without apparent reason it jump to a hundred kilobutes/s... strange...

Anyway, I'll give it a try a soon as I'm back "home"   !

Do anyone know if packages from 3.5.3's feed will work ?

Aye, I wouldn't mind giving a Spitz Opie/GPE image a whirl.

hi there,

first of all i also thank the oz team
for their work. here is my short
feedback:

i tested opie/gpe for several hours.

1) the greatest advantage of this rom
is speed, its really impressive...
in connection with an X environment
like gpe and a new kernel to come
it has a great future and will
probably be my first choice.

2) i fear that the "disturbing small
yellow drawing lines" bug (which also
appeared in 3.5.3) will detain some
users to enter this rom.. its interesting
that there are no problems if one chooses
blue color in sketcchbook...

other problems: sound in opie, crashes
of konqueror, rotation in gpe, representation
of icons (clock) in gpe etc etc

May I put in a vote for 3.5.4/GPE for the collie please?

I have been using the GPE versions of OZ 3.5.2 and 3.5.3 in conjunction with Klaus Weidner's pocketworkstation (debian/sarge) on an SD: most extra programmes, such as TeX, xdvi, xpdf etc, can be run directly in the GPE x-windows environment via his command "Cdr". This seems preferable to running pocketworkstation on in its own, even with a matchbox window manager, or of running it through opie and xqt.  I hope that TeX, xdvi and xpdf will eventually be added to the OZ feed, since according to the last OE newsletter at least TeX is available through OE/bitbake. I am also looking forward to the latest version of minimo (with the forwards and backwards arrows working).  To enable the escape and function keys for emacs and vi in 3.5.3/GPE, I had to comment out two lines near the end of kbdconfig in /etc/matchbox and remove the "keylaunch" ipkg (thank you, lardman).

Otherwise, GPE seems extremely nice. The other currently available x-windows rom for the collie, pdaxrom, appears  at present not to be in a very usable state on a collie.

The Spitz RC is now available. Thank you very much, Mickeyl!

Concerning md5: How neccesary is verification? What is the likelyhood of a corrupted download? What is to be done in the absence of posted md5sums to check against; download multiple times and compare?? Since OpenZaurus.org gives me widely varying thoroughput, with the occasional timeout, this concerns me greatly.

I would certainly check the md5sums, this is the main point of failure when flashing.

I presume there aren't any available yet for the files?

You could ask on #openzaurus (or #oe but it's OT) and see if someone with access can create them.

I want to echo malik's praise for the OZ devs.  OZ (both with opie and gpe)is really fast.  And they keep making large leaps twords an killer final rom.

I would like to add one more bug.  OZ is still unable to handle alarms on my tosa.  Alarms (from calendar) work great as long as the system is awake, but it will not resume if suspended and give an alarm.  Thats the bug that keeps me from giving OZ a much longer life on my Zaurus.

Hmm, I think I'll create a bug/workaround thread for this kind of thing.

http://openzaurus.org/wordpress/

and choose your device from the Installation menu on the left-hand side.

That said, it looks like there's no HDD image included in this release, so just rename one of the *rootfs.tar.gz files to initrd.bin (depending on whether you want barebones bootstrap, GPE or opie) and place that on the CD/SD card along with the updater.sh (renamed to remove the .spitz) and the zImage.bin file (again renamed)

Thank you the link is what confused me I started there and read "1) Download files: zImage.bin, initrd.bin, hdimage1.tgz, updater.sh. If the filenames are different, change them to the above or else the zaurus will not be able to find them. The filenames are somewhat case sensitive. Either use the capital I in zImage.bin, or all lower, or all caps." Now that I know I am not looking for the HDD image it should go more smoothly I was renaming the bootstrap to hdd and opie to initrd oops

Thanks again for the support and great distro.

SL-C3000: Flashing an initrd.bin is not necessary in 3.5.4-RC (hence it isn't provided).

Curious does the entire tree have to be rebuilt for each machine's ROM?  Is that why it takes so long to get RCs and releases out?
