I remember ABP and Malcolm Bryant from my Psion days.  The other thing I remember is Bankplus from Pete Sipple, which I used religiously and kept me out of financial scrapes!
I'm still using RMRBank from RMRSoft on my netbook - I've even had most of my suggestions added to the software over the years.  As such, I'm used to a full featured suite of apps controlling my finances - it's the little things like when entering a petrol visa voucher it automatically offers to update the mileage / fuel calculator with the latest details too.

I still need to look at qhac - sorry, I've been too busy recently!
I had a chat with the author, who pretty much agreed it wouldn't work - it's built around Qt4, not Qt3, and he believes porting it back to Qt3 would be a lot of work.  He's not ruling it out, but it's unlikely to work in the near future.

So, I think it's either:

- Port KMyMoney using zautrix's KDEMicrolibs (as used for KO/Pi, KA/Pi etc.)
- Get JABP enhanced to provide more functions
- Write our own

Given my lack of programming skills, the third option is out for me, although I'm happy to beta test and suggest new features

Suggest that you try to get Malcom to package a version of JABPlite which is a Java version of JABP (Just Another Banking Program), he already has about 5 versions for a number of Java environments as well as versions for the Psion & Nokia devices. I have been using the product for many years, it has all the functionality that I require to look after all my accounts & is in constant development & its free. Sure that Malcom would do this if someone could tell him how to configure for thr Zaurus as he did have a version for the 5500 some time back.

Personally, I think the IPK he has for the Z is fine (although I don't know how much tweaking the jabp.ini needs for the clamshell versions.

Right now, I'm trying it, and need to think through what additional functions I would like in it.

I know it works on the 5500 but it does not work on the C series & Malcom would love to know how he can provide a version for C series.

So anyone with the relevant knowledge should contact him via www.freepoc.de

Swing,

Do you know how difficult it would be to port kmymoney with the kdemicrolibs? I think it would be awesome to be able to run the same application on the zaurus and on my linux desktop and have the two sync. I don't have programming skills either but I wouldn't mind paying somebody to do the work if a person were interested. Who would be the best person to talk to about such a project? How much money do you think it would take to get somebody interested? I sent an e-mail to Lutz Rogowski but never heard anything back from him.

Yes, I do not see any reason to provide support of Zaurus software via email.

Ask questions here and maybe you will get an answer.

But if someone is asking me KDE-Pim/Pi unrelated questions via email I will not answer.

Absolutely no idea.  I guess it needs someone to try and see what additional KDE functions need adding to the kdemicrolibs and then coding them themselves and getting them added to the main libs zautrix releases.

Based on the time and effort zautrix has put into getting KO/Pi, KA/Pi etc. working a lot more than 2 or 3 of us could afford I suspect.  I think this needs a Zaurus developer to work on.

Do we at least know in what way it does not work?  Malcolm has got the main codebase working on so many different platforms I can't believe the C series are that unique, and we should be able to help him out with the problem and the solution...

The software installs OK but fails when you try to run it, I did go through it with Malcolm, checking that files were in the correct places. I don't know enough about Java to take it any further, assumed it was down to the changes Sharpo made to Jarva.

That's a shame, I know on my 5500 I had to make a few tweaks to get it to work post installation, although I'm still not sure if it was user error that caused the problems in the first place

If I had a cxxxx I'd try to sort this out myself, but it's one of the things I promised myself I would want working before investing in a clamshell, so I may be stuck in a Catch 22 situation

If you don't object to pay software, see if tkckapital is what you are looking for.
http://www.thekompany.com/embedded/tkckapital/

Don't know about the "constant development" part though, since they don't seem to have gotten past supporting the 5500.

I've been running Jabp on my C-750. Funnily enough, I just uninstalled it before coming across this thread. The problem with it is that the dialogs are all messed up, size-wise. It's hard to read. I can't remember what I did to get it working, but it couldn't have been that difficult. If I get a chance, I'll download the latest version and have a look.

Just got Jabp on again. It installs fine. This latest version looks cleaner than the one I had before. It still has the showstopper bug in it though: If you have a dialog with drop-down menus in it and open such a menu near the bottom of its containing window, the window will try to redraw itself and get into an infinite loop.

Then you have to telnet in and kill all cvm processes, obviously losing all recent data.

- I had JABP running on my (s)old SL-5500, and I recall doing some futzing to get it to work, but nothing major.  Like follow the instructions or something equally silly.  (grin)
- I've installed it numerous times on the C-1000, and tried running it under both evm & cvm, to no avail.  But I may not have the latest version.  Anyone have a link to that?
- I've also tried grisbi (unresolved dependency issue), have qhacc (sad to here it won't run), just d/led "Bank" (but don't feel positive), and don't like tkc (gave my 'ware from them away with the SL-5500).  That leaves a pretty darned thin field out there!
- As for writing one ... well ... I have the knowledge ... I just don't have the time.  Krikey!  If'n I ever get the wife unit's computer set up for Z development, I think the first thing I'm going to tackle is to install time zones into KO/PI.  I'm sick of futzing with flight departure and arrival times in different time zones.  (owlish stare)

well, I had a look at the jabp ipk file and noticed some obvious errors which prevents it from working properly without some post install hacking so I rebuilt it and now it will just work once installed.
