Yes i'm in your line....
I do _not_ condone illegal copying of software - but trying to declare that you cannot _move_ a piece of software to a different device is dishonest.

Infact if i buy a Tomtom GO 300 that is a linux device and move the software under another hardware in this case the Zaurus, i do not think this is illegal.

I hope tomtom or opentom......wil work on Zaurus

I don't think it's the software that they are particularly bothered about... they obviously sublicence mapdata to put on the device under a specific agreement about devices it is to be used upon.

However, if you want to see more of this licensing then read Apple's license for their Operating Systems, states that you aren't allowed to install it on non-apple hardware (or used to).

Typically these licenses give the user the option to repackage the device and send it back... hmmm... maybe I should send my old TomTom Go back since I bought it just before they brought out the version with the GPRS traffic updates... well I don't like the license!

Hmm. I seem to remember seeing that too (though I think it may have been Win95 now that I think about it). Why are you so sure?

Simple. Drivers. Welll. .  not exactly drivers, but kernel supports. Or something. . Like porting roms to one zaurus, but them not working on an iPaq or a different Zaurus? Same thing. It's like the AmigaOne and the AppleMac. Same processors, same PCI cards, you could put it in the same case, use matching memory etc etc etc, but you wouldn't be able to run MacOS on your Amiga (Not that you'd want to) Because the hardware is slightly different. Savvy? XD

I am SUCH an insufferable know it all.
Let's just hope I'm still right.

you can do it but the amount of time and money (remeber how mirosoft expects to be paid, there dev stuff being the most expensive products they sell) is prohibitve, i recomond you just go and buy a PDA with GPS as the maps will cost you as much as the pda if they are boaght seperatly

I think main problem is Zaurus Bootloader. Even if you can create WinCE 5.0/WinMobile 5.0 (for WinCE - there is Microsoft Windows CE Platform Builder, which has 30 day trial version) Image with all drivers - you can't do anything with it...
Zaurus C-3100 ( Gentoo 2007.0 eabi, kernel 2.6.21.6)

Sorry for my English...
But, why can't I create bootloader? I suppose MS Software allow?
I can't download Trial Builder... because more it weights more than 1Gb...

Okay just to let you know.  I just got an Axim X51v.  It's going back to dell as soon as it can.  Windows mobile 5 sucks dead donkey b@lls.  It's buggy as hell and the bluetooth is crippled on the 51v.  Searching e-bay now for a 3100.
What's this button do??

I use a 5600, not as good as the SL-C, but good enough! And besides, I'm getting an XDA-One for all my Windowsy needs. The rom available free on My-XDA.com will give me 2003 on it! That's Bluetooth etc via the SD slot, Or better, wifi. (I HATE BT!!!)

Easiest way? Get One of each!
Cheap WinPDA, and a Zaurus! Better, get an old cheap winPDA, and get it for pence!
