I'm curious about this memory resizing and it's effects.

When I resized the memory, using the cacko flash resizer, to 121mb the max, these are the results:

Code: [Select]
System Memory
Free Memory: 1.0mb
Total 60.0mb

Internal Flash
Free Memory: 8.1mb
Total 58.0mb, Mounted at /

Internal Flash
Free Memory: 61.3mb
Total 63.0mb, Mounted at /home

However, when I used the NAND restore to get the default memory allocation back I got these results:

Code: [Select]
System Memory
Free Memory: 2.0mb
Total 60.0mb

Internal Flash
Free Memory: 8.1mb
Total 58.0mb, Mounted at /

Internal Flash
Free Memory: 39.4mb
Total 63.0mb, Mounted at /home

If you look at the Internal Flash designated as /home that drops from 61.3mb of free space to only 39.4mb of free space straight after flashing.

The questions I have are:

1) Anyone know where this extra space has gone?
2) Anyone know if there is a bad reason why I shouldn't reflash it to the 121mb max flash resize to get the extra space back?

That's not really a 120Mb rootfs but rather looks like a default Sharp / OZ partitioning.

Most probably the NAND backup you have used has some Sharp ROM stuff installed in /home.

Thanks

How should the memory split look for optimal useability?

The word docs I editted using abiword and excel docs I editted using gnumeric from my FAT formatted CF card won't save back onto the CF card, I get access denied errors. :-(

Oh and if I leave it suspended for a long time, it resets itself and I lose everything that was in memory when it was suspended.

Any ideas?

running as root would be one way.  saving elsewhere, then moving the file as root might be another.  you might be able to do a chown on the mounted partition.  It maybe that i am wrong about the permissions issue.  Try running as root and see...

I installed the protocol for MSN(as well as yahoo oscar[for ICQ, AIM] which turn out to be working)
However, for the MSN, it just constantly having a prompt saying SSL is missing.
While I tried to installed numours ssl libraries, such as
libgunutls,
libssl
libgaim-ssl
...................

The dir /usr/lib/gaim already equiped w/ ssl libraries..
ssl-gnutls.so
ssl-nss.so
ssl.so

yet, is still not working.....
Did a few hours of digging in libraries and search in forums but still no lucks...

When you find a bug... like... the system resetting after it's been in suspend for over an hour... is that a GPE bug, a Hentges bug or an OZ bug? And where should it be reported?

That would be a kernel bug -> OZ bugtracker.

However, I have yet to encounter the problem you describe. Works fine for me

Thanks.

This reset bug seems to happen to me every time it's in suspend for over an hour.

I'm wondering if the fact I've a CF and SD at the same time or am unsure of the memory mapping that's causing this error.

All things considered. I go love GPE :-)

About using wifi cf card with OZ ... I'm using a XI-825 cf card which uses a prism 2.5 chipset. It gets detected as a Sandisk Connect card and seems to connect to my notebook in ad-hoc mode.

Question:
1. How do I verify that its connected correctly? I cannot ping the notebook using the notebook ip.
2. I have the wifi in my notebook setup to share its internet connection via the LAN port. When I fix #1 above, I should be able to connect to internet already right?

I'm using Windows XP on my notebook.

I am running OZ/GPE Hentges 3.5.4.1 with cardfs on collie to trial it before moving my akita over.

Ideas?

My Akita is usually suspended and on AC at home. No problems with resume so far.

FWIW I've never used a SD card on Akita yet, and very rarely suspend w/ a CF storage card inserted.

I've been hacking on Akita/GPE again the last several days:

1. Backlight Off on lid-close is the default now
2. APM suspend on lid-close (and other stuff) can be configured using hentges-setup.sh from a console
3. The Z now plays a low-volume beep before entering APM suspend and after APM resume (can be disabled w/ hentges-setup.sh)
4. Fn+[Left|Right]Arrow switch to the VT from within X
5. Fn+Esc in gpe-login (and only there) terminate X and drops you to a VT

1, 4 and 5 were pushed into OZ

A new image will be available in ~6-8 hours (boy, my uplink stinks)
