Question Regarding Cacko Backup Files
« on: October 06, 2006, 06:35:35 pm »
With the standard default sharp rom backups, I am able to open them with 7-zip and extract and manipulate files.

With the cacko rom backups, 7-zip tells me that the backup is not a supported archive.

This is strange, because the backup/restore programs appear to be the same in both roms.

I really like the idea of being able to work with the backups.
Sometimes it gets me out of a real mess.

Would anyone have any ideas on this?

Well, so far I've tried 7-Zip, WinZip and WinRar and none of them will open the cacko backup files.
Any other ideas anyone?

maybe your backup is corrupted. its just a tar file

you can do

# tar tvf backupfile

I just opened one of my cacko backups with winrar.
I didn't know that these would open with winrar, that's cool.
The filename is "2006-07-21-19-52.backup_SLC3100-JP-1"
I had to open winrar first, then locate the file, since it doesn't have an extension.

Too bad winrar wouldn't run on the zaurus.
That sure would be neat.

that would be zrar instead of winrar
but seriously, there is a GTK GUI (X11 required) which can act as a frontend to unzip, unrar, etc... on the Zaurus. You just need to run pdaXrom  no qte version of it yet...
