Ok, I haven\'t been keeping up, but I\'m interested in a meeting. Let\'s pick somewhere that has WI-FI.

What\'s the best way to go about organizing a meeting place?  I was thinking that we could tag onto / invade one of the local LUGs.

Regarding WiFi, I\'ll offer my DSL\'d place up if you guys want to visit Chicago.  Plenty of parking where I\'m at, although I have a basement apartment, so if you\'re over 6\'2 it may not be that enjoyable   It\'s also not incredibly big, so it would depend on the number of people participating.

I\'m also rather newbie-ish with Linux, so the only available Linux \"server\" is a laptop running SuSe!

Can anyone suggest a decent public location that has WiFi availability?  Maybe on derekp\'s suggestion?

LUNI ( http://luni.org ) always has events going on over the weekends we could try and piggy back with one of their events?
The one and only WI/IL ZUG event to date was up my way in Kenosha, only fair to have the next towards Chicago.

Hi everybody!
Glad to see so many people from around Chicago (I\'m located in Chinatown). AFAIK Panera Bread has free wi-fi access, but I\'ve had mixed results so far. I am definitely up for a meeting

I\'m guessing a weekend would work best for all of us - Sunday nights are best for me as well as Fridays.

I could meet pretty much any day on the weekend.  As long as we plan it far enough out, I could clear most any date.

I would suggest that if we plan it on a Friday, we go somewhere that\'s open relatively late and we may want to avoid Chicago or plan to meet later in the evening due to traffic.

If we do meet in Chicago, a place in Chicago that may be good is where the Windy City Linux User group meets on Thursdays:
http://wclug.org/

Click on the first link - Letizia\'s Natural Bakery.  That\'s on Division between Western and Damen.  The place is near the expressway and there should be decent street parking nearby.  I have a good friend that lives across the street, too   In addition, they\'re open till 11:00 pm daily.  I could check it out if anyone\'s interested.

Sounds good. I agree with n8a, as long as the date/time is set far enough in advance I can schedule for it

Great here as well. As long as it\'s fairly close to the expressway I won\'t get to lost
n8a why don\'t you set something up and let us know a date and time.

OK - I\'ll check out the place to gauge the seating available and to find out if the wifi connection costs anything.  You guys please let me know what weekend days you\'d prefer - rank them in order of pref.  I\'ll then set up a date for about a month from now, if that works-

According to the website, Letizia\'s offers connection from FaceFive ($3 for an hour, $8 for a day, $20 for monthly unlimited). I like the fact it\'s open till 11pm though  I\'m a late-night kind of person. My prefs is Friday, Sunday, Saturday.

thanks yeswarchief.  I checked online, and it seems that there may be some other cafes in Chicago that have free wifi:

I\'ll check 1-2 out tonight to see if they\'re free, decent, and to check parking, seating and hours.  Of course, I\'d like to find a nice late-night joint that has free wifi for my own use as well!

One of these is located in Schaumburg and open till 11pm on Friday. I can check this one out sometime this week.

Please do - I know exactly where that\'s at.  The Coffee Haus looks good, esp. being open til 11.  Also, the NW suburbs should be easier for everyone to get to, park, etc.
