So I downloaded the full ~160mb 5.2 this time. mrvxt is working, and no error on startup. Torsmo doesn't seem to be displaying anything on screen (which is fine with me - I'm not particularily fond of it  )

Is the status bar supposed to disappear when you switch virtual terminals? It only displays on desktop 1.

The only other continual niggle I have is the file save dialog (Firefox, for example) It opens up much larger than the screen until you click the "Browse for other folders" option. It then resizes so it sort of fits on screen, but the file name and title bar are still way off the top - you have to use the key shortcut for moving windows to bring it down. I've seen this issue in another program, so I don't think it's firefox related. It's quite annoying because the window is basically empty before you select the browse option. =(

Great job so far, Meanie.  I'm just about ready to kick Cacko for good, now...

Is there a way to get the volume setting I choose to persist across reboots? It keeps resetting itself to the default volume. (I like my Z to be seen and not heard, so I almost always have it muted). It's especially noticable because of the boot and resume sound bites.

I also seem to have lost my status bar icon that shows the list of running programs. It doesn't even come back when I reboot. I'm re-extracting the HD image to see if I'm not imagining things - I'm pretty sure it was there when I started. The only setting I've knowingly changed so far was to add a network profile.

Is there a proper way to disconnect an external keyboard and mouse? I had a mouse on there, and couldn't find any way to get rid of it so I just disconnected it. Afterwards (may or may not be related) I lost the ability to close programs or move windows. I couldn't minimize, but I could re-open a minimized program from the desktop. Rebooted fixed that...

I think there is no status bar at the bottom on the other virtual desktops.

There is a config file /home/root/Choices/pdaxii13.conf which specifies what happens during startup, ie load torsmo, play welcome sound, play beep during resume. These options can be set to true or false, but they only come into effect after X is restarted.

The volume is preset using mixmos. Just run mixmos and save the volume state after you have set your preferred settings.

Thanks. My compile just finished as well. It took 3 hours to compile scim-anthy! The last time I tried to compile it on beta1, it crashed my Z. This time it went fine with beta3
I see you got a newer version of anthy than the one I just compiled so I will use yours but I will strip out the unneeded files to make it smaller
I wonder if my scim-anthy package will work with your anthy package...

Do you think tomoe and scim-tomoe would be useful?

the version is now build 5.2

no more beta and no more builds  it is rock solid now. any new bugs found are really undocumented features

seriously, bugs found in pdaXii13 probably exist in pdaXrom beta3 as well. i only fixed bugs that i found and that annoyed me. there may be more bugs that exists but never discovered by me since i dont use those particular features.

future bug fixes should be in the form of an updated package. therefore, if a bug is found, we need to determine which package contains the bug and replace it with a bug fixed version. this way you dont need to reflash and the same package can be used to fix the same bug in beta3 and pdaXii13.

this feed contains new packages and bug fixed packages [a href=\"http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/beta3/custom/]http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/beta3/custom/[/url]

people with beta3 can replace existing packages with packages from this feed to fix bugs in beta3. all packages for pdaXii13 are compatible with beta3 and vice versa.

Thanks Meanie, but please don't totally rule out the possibility of a 5.3, 5.5, v6 or whatever the next version is called that fixes most of the bugs we'll find in 5.2

You deserve a break but we may just find enough bugs that will annoy enough people to warrant another release I feel. I wouldn't call anything stable until 100's or 1000's of people have been using a given version for months or years without problem- especially when we're talking about something as vast and complex as a *nix OS!!! As it stands only a few people have given pdaXii13 anything resembling a good testing and its not for very long- even for yourself. I identified another couple of bugs in 5.2b today.

If anyone tries installing 5.2 before me (Meanie?) please check to see if these bugs from 5.2b been fixed-

* The Cancel key on the side of the Zaurus doesn't seem to do anything when running xmms - I'd like it to pause the track preferably

* If you slide the matchbox volume slider right to the bottom it stops working and matchbox volume applet requires you restart X (or maybe use a different mixer) to get it working again

* Does the USB keyboard work properly now? Unless somebody else fixed it then I can tell you that the UK USB keyboard map is missing a | key. I can get this to you in time for 5.3, I'm sure

* GUI MIME editor for adding new file associations to rox (if no better alternative- see below) like .flv, which mplayer can play fine, for example.

Also, if you haven't included it already Meanie streamtuner and streamripper really, REALLY should be a standard part of pdaXii13 full as I think most people want a good GUI to lots of streamed radio channels and vlc isn't up to it unfortunately.

Also, I believe rox should be replaced by Thunar or pcmanfm if possible as rox always ends up losing your desktop icons and wallpaper setting for some reason and offers

'I've just trashed your desktop settings, OK?' (  its something about 'updating your pinboard settings' actually but this is what it really means to say)

or something similar every so often as an excuse. I ran rox on my PC under Debian for a while and this happened there too so its not the fault of pdaXii13- its rox!

Also, I feel we need a better picture viewer than feh and gthumb- something that is as good as photostorage for cacko. There are 100's of linux/X image viewers, its just a case of finding the right one.

build 5.2 is a stable and usable build with most annoyances found in beta3 fixed. there is no need to constantly flash your Z and lose your existing setup. i don't know about others, but i for one hate it. once i get a reasonable setup, i tend to stick with it for a long time.

and also, don't forget that pdaXii13 was build for the specific needs of a single user which is of course me  All the pre-installed applications are the ones I want. Every user has their own application requirements and they differ. If you remember my thread about useful applications, I was evaluating apps that were useful for my needs.

adding or removing applications is an easy task. just use the package manager which does not crash unlike the one in OZ, or use ipkg from the command line. gqview works fine for me. I got a 5 mega pixel camera made by samsung and gqview views all my images without problems. if you don't like it, install whichever image viewer works for you...

as for your uk keyboard map, it should really be an ipk that uk users can install since most people dont need it, i for one don't

the cancel button works in xmms unless the userdefined keyboard map has redefined its value.

volume mixer is just a typical example of a beta3 bug which does not annoy me since I never change volume to lowest. but again, once that applet has been fixed, then it can be repackaged and added to the feed for upgrading. most bugs fixed in pdaXii13 are really pdaXrom bugs and should ideally be added to pdaXrom repository.

now is probably a good time to start custom builds. maybe a pdaXii13 custom danboid build1 will do exactly what you need

pdaXii13 was build for customisation. you can add and remove stuff to your liking and backup your setup using zbackup. rename your backup file to hdimage-custom.tgz and you got your own custom build of pdaXii13 which you can use to re-install or upload to share with others...

DRM (yes, those are my initials- very ironic considering I'm the antithesis of what DRM means to techies eh?  ) scrawls in return:

So what does the cancel button do now? Does it pause? T'would be good?

I don't suppose you fixed the module dependency error in pdaXii13 Akita? Oi ain't flashing it again if not- just don't like the sound/look of it!

Despite the Archimark install method's long boot-time (it is long), wouldn't it be better for c3100 and c3200 owners to take this route (see my updated c3100 install guide) rather than going the pdaXii13-Akita route, what with the MD supposedly being faster than NAND and having all the dirs (like /usr AND /home /etc) on the MD is reassuring to me to me- what if I end up copying lots of files to /home/root - very likely something like this will happen- I don't think pdaXii13 Akita would like it.

Has anyone tried both install methods (Menin's pdaXii13-Akita/full install vs. Archimark's b3 then c3000 pdaXii13  method) of pdaXii13 full on a c3100 or c3200? Which did you find the best and why?

Hi Meanie,

Would you know by heart what has changed since build 5.2 alpha? The reason is that I've already started to heavily use and customize 5.2 alpha and I don't want to re-setup everything if 5.2 final only contains small fixes.

TIA!
Owner of a very happy Zaurus SL-C3000 since the day he was fed with pdaXrom 1.1.0beta1! Just made him even more happy by feeding him with pdaXii13 build 5.4.7.

I've just installed 5.2 final on my c3000

To answer my own questions from before

USB Keyboards work properly now! (this was the biggie for me- good!)

Cancel key still does nothing under xmms

No mime-editor installed as standard

matchbox volume slider seems to be working fine right now...

Good work Meenee!
