Thanks, asm-nai! The setting works for Angband!
In addition I also compiled XAngband and Hengband (they don't seem to use the x11settings.prf as Angband though). Now only waiting for the fix of the attachment function ...

Bloody HELL Zdevil, you've been busy!! Thanks so much for all those gems!

I've loaded slashem and xangband so far and I see that they have the same problem as GLHack that can't run as a non-root user unless you chmod some files (wherever they keep the lock and save files). Also you need to copy the config file from roots home to your home.

It's been quiet lately on the packages front, now I see why! thanks again

Oh, thanks zi99y  for pointing out the issue. Would you mind giving more details of the fix?

The thing is i have to specify the user and UID for the compile. "Root" is the default user  of pdaXrom and seems to be used by most non-hackers.

Sure, I've not had any time lately but I'll take a look into it soon, I only have glhack working so far but I know that it stores user data somewhere in /var so it's likely that the others do something similar.

Just uploaded LinuxRogue 0.3.6, Omega 0.80.2, Avanor 0.5.8, ToME (Tales of Middle Earth) 2.34, Furyband 4.0.0, and Slash'EM 0.0.7E7F3 to the pdaXrom New Package Announcement thread.  Enjoy!

Build problems x 2 so far:
1) Still can't get any Crawl game compiled or working. The tile version (http://crawlj.sourceforge.jp/down_e.html) segfaults and freezes. My build from the original 4.0.0 (Beta 26) source ( ftp://ftp.dungeoncrawl.org/dev/4.0.x/src/dc400b26-src.tbz2 ) exits after character creation.
2) The graphical version of Omega, gromega, has nice graphics, compiles but segfault. Source: http://www.alcyone.com/binaries/omega/grom...0.2a-src.tar.gz

Will try to contact the developers.
Or anyone wanna take up the challenge?

Oops. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup 1.7 (http://crawl-ref.sourceforge.net/) compiles but also exits upon character creation like Dungeon Crawl 400b26.

Hey, just came across AliBaba's Cave, an interesting 7DRL (Seven-Day-Rogue-Like) game, and so i can't resist but package it ...

It's in the "New Pacakges Announcement" thread #190.

Have fun!

I must make my confession here (feeling guilty of slipping away from my real work): I got totally hooked to Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup on my C1000!
So I can't stop purging out more ports. Xangband 1.1.1 (updated), Hellband 0.8.4, Animeband 0.60alpha2, Unangband 0.62 and Frazband 0.4.1 are all underway...

Reminds me of Wumpus on the old HP calculator, those tape cards were nifty. Even better it makes me remember star trek on the DEC PDP 11/70. ASCII goodness. Good for you ZDevil.

Finally with the help of the developer I got Lizard (an improved interface for both NetHack and Slash'EM) compiled onboard. http://www.darkarts.co.za/projects/newt/
Now gonna test it and will upload it as soon as possible!
Clive Crous also hosts a number of interesting alternative tilesets for NetHack and Slash'EM: http://www.darkarts.co.za/projects/nhtiles/wiki/

Enjoy!!

While packaging other new *band ports and lizard, i find that to get the best graphical tile view the best setting in Z seems to be:

#1. Use big system font (preinstalled with pdaXrom), preferably
-*-*-bold-r-normal-*16-*-*-*-*-80-iso8859-1
instead of the fonts provided by the games, unless the games have got a 8x16 font (usually under lib/xtra/fonts );

#2 If available, set tile width = 8 and tile height =16 (not working for those games that tie up font size and tile size, such as ToME)

#3 If available, use the bigtile setting ("-b" ) (again only for some of the games like Angband)

All this can be done easily by modifying the relevant options in the startup scripts.

To illustrate my point, take a look at these screenshots to see the difference:

Angband: 8x13 font & tile

Angband: 8x16 font & tile

ToME (Tales of Middle Earth): 8x13 font & tile

ToME (Tales of Middle Earth): 8x16 font & tile

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

The only thing with the new setting is the uglier font ...
What do you think? I'm just thinking maybe I can repackage the games to save the users' trouble to fiddle with the scripts.

Sidenote: another whole new bunch of ports of other *band and the Lizard-NetHack/Slash'EM is coming up!
