Still trying to sync
« on: March 12, 2004, 07:10:16 pm »
I\'ve found the PC-side logfile now.... says Unable to initialize application API.
Verify that correct application version is installed.
Translation Canceled!

Very helpful.

Current applicaiton is the latest version from the Sharp website  - 560v132s.zip is the filename....

Getting increasingly frustrated.... any thoughts, anyone, please?

What is it you\'re trying to do?  I am able to sync my Z (Sharp PIMs) with Outlook XP on Win 2k.

Get any sync to work. I have tried every combination - using software off cd, s/w update, scrape off & reinstall; palm desktop, outlook (no email installation) with exactly same result. I have even reqd the manual..........

This worked for me on win 2k to sync with outlook.

1) Uninstall everything from the windows desktop
2) Unplug the cradle
3) Make sure you use the uninstall program, then use windows Add/Remove software as well.  You\'ll also need to uninstall the USB driver from the Add/Remove program
4) Check the device manager, usb section, for the SL driver and delete it there also.

Reboot.

1) Run setup from the 5600 supplied CD, install required software.
2) Shutdown.
3) Plug in cradle.
4) Power up PC.
5) Wait til windows is up, put z in cradle, power on.
6) Install USB drivers.

Should now work.  Things that come to mind are version incompatibilities.  Make sure that you use the USB drivers for your rom ver.  They are not backwards compatible.

Good Luck!

Thanks for that - I\'ll give it a whirl. I\'ve done 90% of that, but it\'ll be worth checking again completely. Did you have the same issue before, please? (Zaurus is low on memory/ Could not initialise API)

Tried it

BTW, I get the same results from a new WinMe installation. as far as incompatibilities are concerned, I tried first off with the rom and the cd it shipped with and then upgraded to 1.32 and d/l\'d 560v132s.zip for the s/w..

I wish I had some hair left to pull out....

I don\'t know.  I was able to get it to work doing that every time.  Can you transfer files via their software?  Is there any communication between the two at all?

I have been trying to get my SL-5500 to sync with Outlook 2k on WinXP for a few months. Tried and gave up several times. And finally it worked today!

What did I do differently: I loaded up Sharp 3.13 on the Z and installed all the new drivers and all that. The only thing I seemed to do differently was NOT run Outlook on the Windoze machine when trying to sync for the first time. Every other time I think I must have had Outlook running when I was trying to sync, since I rarely shut down the WinXP machine.

If you have tried everything else and nothing else works, see if this will work.

I\'ll second the motion.  Do you have communication between the two?  Can you use the FTP software on the PC?  Can either machine ping each other?

Are you using XP?  Is the network firewall on the interface?  Low memory?  Have you taken all the apps off fast load?
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

No idea if it will work, but if you are simply getting no comms at all despite drivers being installed etc. take a look at this.
