Telnet Escape Sequence/Newbie!
« on: May 05, 2004, 06:34:08 am »
I figure this is a very basic question for most of you but I\'m totally new to the Z, so please help a newbie!

I\'m trying to use the Terminal program (Sharp ROM 3.10) on my 5500 to telnet into an office computer. The escape sequence I need to use is ^[. How do I get this sequence using either the built-in keyboard or the onscreen keyboard?

Thanks very much.

The cancel button acts as the ESC key, or you can bring up the software \"keyboard\" and there is an ESC key in the upper left corner.

On my 760 it is fn+shift+d

This will terminate a telnet session
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

Just to clarify, the escape sequence I need to enter is NOT the Escape key, but ctrl-[. With the onscreen keyboard, ctrl-[ does nothing. The built-in \"hard\" keyboard has no ctrl key. Anybody there who has experience with telnet and knows how to get the ctrl-[ escape sequence?

Thanks!

The CTRL key on the default on-screen keyboard doesn\'t do anything. You need to install a 3rd party keyboard such as Tapboard to get a working CTRL key: http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=483

The problem with Entering CTRL+[ with the hardware keyboard is that FN+Shift normally simulates CTRL, but you need to press FN+Shift+Backspace just to get [.

Have you tried FN+Shift+D as bluedevils suggested? This generates the EOF character on all Zaurii and terminates a connected session at least (even before login). FN+C also does the same with the signal it generates.

You could try installing and configuring Keyhelper to convert some other unused key combination to generate CTRL+[

fn+cancel will send ctrl+[

but to terminate a telnet session you are looking for ctrl+]

I get ^[ in a telnet session just by pressing Cancel on its own.

Oh yeah, so it is. Doesn\'t change anything though. You need to enter FN+Shift+, to get a ] , so you still cannot enter CTRL+] unless someone knows of some other magic key combination.
