Dead c860....?
« on: June 03, 2004, 06:29:56 am »
I got my Zaurus c860 yesterday, but it didn\'t actually do anything. It didn\'t
switch on, it didn\'t enter the flash menu, but it did enter the service menu.
So I thought: I do a NAND restore, and then everything is back to normal again.
But I flashed the wrong one... I thought there was an universal ROM at
www.trisoft.de, but apparently it was only a c750 rom (saw the c860 later...)

I think that was the worst thing I could do to my device. After that, I:

  - can\'t switch the device on
  - can\'t enter service-menu (D+M)
  - can\'t enter flash-menu (OK + PWRON)

And I think I have an empty battery, which I can\'t charge. Is there a way of
recovering the service menu i.e. restore an c860 NAND backup? It seems C+D does
actually do something, the LEDs lit for a while, and then start to blink. I
think there is an error somewhere. I think the system is searching for some
files, but doesn\'t find them, and then gives an error.

PLEASE HELP!

I dont have a 860 and never seen something like that, but as far as I can see you are from Netherlands. Maybe you call Trisoft in Germany. I dont know if the guys speek well english, maybe you you have to try german. From the German Board I heard they helped often in such cases and are somehow geeks, who live from and maybe for the zauri. They have a freecall Phone, but I dont know, if that works from netherlands too.
I Hope you get your Zaurus running.
Cheers,

There is a post somewhere titled something like \"bricked Zaurus and back in 24 hours\" - can\'t remember the exact thread, but that might help.

Also search this forum, I think Foxdie\'s Z was also bricked for a while, but he got it fixed in the end.

Good luck, hope you can \"resurrect\" it.

Hope my C860 will arrive over the weekend.

How did you try to enter the service menu?

On my 860 I have to:

1)disconnect the power-supply
2)take out batterie
3)wait 5 seconds
4)plug in power-supply while pressing D+M
5)let go D+M
Now the service-menu should be entered
6)put the batterie back in

I\'ve tried this, but it doesn\'t work... Only C+D seems to do something... I\'ve read, that C+D enters a non-visible menu, which will output to a serial console... according to http://pocketworkstation.org/files/recover...ash-recover.txt. If the files there would only work for the c860... Maybe somebody has experience with this way of flashing?

Try

Pull the battery & disconnect power for a while. Then flick battery lock left, plug in AC power while holding D+M.

I have the solution!!! I am so happy now!!! I was surfing for hours and hours, and playing with binary files and dd...

But I found a website that has the solution for my device: http://www.piro.hopto.org/~piro/pukiwiki/p...B%5BP2ROM%5D%5D

I pushed FN+D+M while connecting the AC power, and suddenly I did have a Service Menu!

Now I\'m trying to restore a c860 NAND from www.trisoft.de.

Everybody thanks!
